SMOKEY EYES by Fi a request

WHY HELLO THERE POUTLINGS

Today I’m going to tell you how I do  “smokey eye” makeup.

This one is for you Hesmarie Hellfire and loyal Hesmarie fans and friends.

Please note there are hundreds of ways to approach this and Sandylashxx has agreed to also give us another post on her perspective.

STEP ONE

Choose the colors to be used; charcoal and grays are the most popular hence “smokey” however brown, violet, or even greens may also be used to create a smokey eye. Pros generally recommend avoiding any shades of blue, because they can make it look like one has a black eye but I’m not here to lecture you on colour choice, I had a maths teacher that rawked blue eye shadow, every day of her life, I think… apart from the day she only wore her eye shadow on the one eye and forgot to do the other eye.. haha… so funny!

Really, step one, is prep your face for doing your eyes… Conceal, cover, paint, lay your foundation and powder and make your skin look flawless and matte and apply your choice of blush/bronzer lightly on your cheek bones. Once you’ve done that – FILL IN YOUR EYEBROWS BEFORE YOU PROCEED.

STEP TWO

Apply a base over the entire eyelid. This may be a primer or even a cream concealer. The idea is to give the eyeshadow a smooth, even base onto which it can be applied, and to prevent it from smudging or blending into the crease throughout the night – I say night because well, don’t wear this as day time makeup…. Gives the wrong impression and all.

STEP THREE

EYELINER… IS THE KEY. Eyeliner should generally be applied to the upper and lower lash line. Those who have larger eyes may go from nearly the inner corner of the eyes to the outer corner with the eyeliner, while those with smaller eyes will most likely want to only line the eyes from the middle of the lash line to the outer corner to prevent making the eyes appear small. Once the eyeliner has been applied, gently smudge it with an eyeliner brush or cotton swab; there should not be a severe line.

STEP FOUR

Apply a darker color of eyeshadow to the crease of the eyelid, I like to draw the shape of where i want to end lightly with an angled eyeliner brush and then blend the shadow in that area to the crease and onto the eye… The color should appear darkest around the lash line and the crease, and gradually lighten as it goes up toward the brow bone and lighten towards the inner corner of the eye; once again, it is important to blend. Apply a lighter or sheer color on the brow bone to make it pop and blend downwards towards the darker shade of eye shadow – so that the line where you have drawn shape of your smokey eyes isnt sharp but soft and fluffy but still defined. Does that make sense? A “smudged,” imperfect look is one of the keys to smokey eye makeup.

STEP FIVE

Mascara is the final step. Curl the eyelashes with an eyelash curler, and apply one or two or ten coats of dark mascara for a dramatic look. One important tip when wearing smokey eye makeup is to make the eyes the focal point of the face, and wear a neutral lipstick and or lip gloss to avoid looking way over done.

ET VOILA!

YOU HAVE SMOKEY EYES.

I used one of my black MAC eyeshadows - cant remember the name and my MAC “Shroom” eyeshadow to create this look on myself.

As well as MAC Studio Fix Fluid NW20; MAC Mineral Powder; Woolies Blush; Benefit Bad Gal Mascara; Benefit Lipgloss – cant remember the name.

Enjoy the smokey look. Try it out and send us some pictures to pouperfection[at]gmail[dot]com
