Style Focus: ZARA to launch in South Africa

Since I’ve heard of Topshop’s launch in South Africa in November 2011, over the past couple of days I’ve heard of the Spanish fashion brand Zara – currently the largest fashion retailer in the world will be opening its first flagship store in Johannesburg also in November. It was announced a few weeks ago that it will be opening in Sandton City’s new mall extension.

The collection to be stocked in the South African store is said to be one designed specifically for countries in the Southern Hemisphere and will be the same collections stocked in Zara stores in Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. This is great news as for other fashionistas that follow fellow Spanish brand Mango will have noticed the clothing collections released to South African stores are generally seasons behind the rest of the world.

The best thing about the brand, Zara is the ranges exclusivity – they only realease a limited number of items of everything which greatly decreases the chance of being caught wearing the same outfit as your fellow-chain-store-shopper.

As of yet there has been no speculation of any other stores opening up in South Africa, so for all the Cape Town fashionistas maybe book a flight for November now to avoid disappointment 😉

  1. Haha. I knew this was coming also quite a while ago. I think i got my first Zara top like 12 years ago. They nice. Gonna be a nice store, but will be over priced, since its like a truworths overseas. And Sandton will just make it expensive. Understandable, import costs and all.

there are big billboards up in Gateway in Durban for Zara too. They are also opening here in November

  3. I’m so excited for this! Regardless of the cost, I hear that it is going to be reasonably priced, if Truworths-priced, I’d much rather go to ZARA than Truworths anyways
