Transgender model Jenna allowed to run for Miss Universe!
Heya Fabulous Pouters!
So while I was doing my morning reading I came across an interesting article on model Jenna Talackaova, and the saga of her entering Miss Universe as a transgender model.
The Miss Universe Organisation has reversed an earlier decision and allowed transgender model Jenna to enter Miss Universe Canada pageant. It is, in fact also working with Gay & Lesbian Alliance Defamation (GLAAD) to update its policies on such issues.
Jenna 23, was born male, leading organisers to disqualify her last month as a finalist in the 61st Miss Universe Canada pageant in May.
The rules of the competition run by Donld Trump’s New York city based organisation says entrants must be “naturally born females”. Jenna underwent a sex change four years ago.
Talackova had claimed on her entry registration form that she was born a female, but Denis Davila, the national director of Miss Universe Canada became suspicious about the 23 year old and confronted her about a sex change and the contestant admitted she was actually born male.
Michael D Cohen, executive vice president and special counsel to Donald Trump, wrote in an email to ABC:
“The Miss Universe Organization will allow Jenna Talackova to compete in the 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant provided she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions.”
In my opinion I don’t fully agree with them allowing her to continue to compete, as this competition is based on naturally born females and beauty. She is not naturally a female and therefore they should create pageants for transgender competitors, allowing beauty of a different kind to compete.
What are your opinions poutlings?
