Who is Talia?
Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Talia has been an inspiration ever since. Not that she wasn’t before. She has hundreds of thousands prescribers on her YOUTUBE channel, where she does makeup tutorials.
The 13 year old started her makeup experiments 6 years ago after being diagnosed with Neuroblastoma and has since then attracted 14 million subscribers to her video blog. It all started with her “dislike” for wigs. “I don’t like wigs, they’re so, I dunno… When I have a wig on I feel, not fake, just not me.”
“When I put on my makeup I feel like I can embrace those features that I really like about myself. I feel like if someone is looking at me, they’re looking at my makeup, and not my bald head…. I’m just trying to make young girls, young adults, adults, anyone feel beautiful by using makeup.
She unfortunately not only suffers from Neuroblastoma, but also Leukemia, giving her only 4 – 13 months to live. When Ellen asked her how she keeps positive, she explained it was Dory, Ellen’s Dory from Finding Nemo.
“When people ask me that, what do you want me to do, be depressed? I mean, a little fishy told me, “JUST KEEP SWIMMING, JUST KEEP SWIMMING!”‘
She is unsure about her future regarding her health, but she is adamant about one thing… Knowing what she wants, “I hope you guys know where I’m coming from, not wanting to do a transplant.”
“I’ve gotten so many benefits from cancer. Having a YouTube channel, having to inspire people and having people look up to me…I adore, I love makeup, using it as my wig… It’s amazing…the journey of having cancer was amazing. But every journey has an end.”
I love what Ellen and Covergirl are doing for this girl, it’s truly amazing.
However (CoverGirl was one of the largest global brands to conduct animal testing but that is no longer the case. Over a decade ago, Procter & Gamble’s Beauty & Grooming businesses discontinued animal testing on finished products, though they continue to test individual ingredients on animals.) it’s very sad to me. Especially Ellen being vegan, I’m surprised she is a spokesperson for them, without doing the research.
Thanks Talia for being an inspiration. You are gorgeous.
