Guest Contribution : Why is a Wedding Band so Important?

Although not necessary for the legalities of a wedding, the wedding band, and the swapping of them during a ceremony, is still one of the most symbolic things that many of us will do during our lives.

There are many reasons that a quality wedding band is so important for both the bride and her groom. Here, we turn our focus to the male half of the partnership, and explore the importance of a wedding band both in general, as well as any sex-specific reasons why a quality ring is so important.

Place of Work

Wherever we work, our hands and face are the most exposed parts of our body. Some workplaces, such as building sites and certain factories, are more male dominated and the nature of these locations and lend themselves to a wedding band getting damaged.

Therefore, a stronger metal such as tungsten is a better option for many men than say, gold, which is not as strong and more likely to get damaged. Tungsten also requires less on-going ‘maintenance,’ it’ll never lose its shine, for example.

Man Hands

Whether you believe it is down to God or evolution, the fact is that men have bigger, coarser hands than women do. A wedding ring that is small or feeble looking just seems out of place on a man’s hand. While women a probably better suited to a thin band, on a man it just appears plain silly.

A nice, bold, prominent ring is what is needed for a guy, especially when he will want to show off the fact that he is married to a wonderful woman, and proud to be so.

Only Jewellery

Men tend to wear less jewellery than women do, for whatever reason. It is only natural then, that if a wedding band is going to be a man’s only piece of jewellery, that it should be something of a ‘show stealer.’

Of course, we’re not saying women shouldn’t have a great looking band just because they may wear more jewellery, but you understand where we’re coming from.

The Symbolism

Into the more general reasons now, and we touched on the symbolism that comes with wedding bands earlier.

What exactly does a wedding band symbolise?

In its most basic sense, it is a sign that one is married, but taking it deeper it is a symbol of your love for someone based around the wedding vows related to ‘with this ring,’ for example. If a couple has matching wedding bands, or perhaps they are engraved or customised in some other way, this further adds to the importance.

Everyone Asks

We were not able to talk about quality wedding bands without getting this in! When you are ‘circulating’ at your wedding reception or party later on, everyone asks for a look at the rings, even that of the groom.

Why have the token ‘oh isn’t it wonderful’ when you can have a top quality wedding band and give people a real ‘wow’ factor. You shouldn’t worry too much about what people think, obviously, but if you have a stunning wedding band, why not show it off?
