Pain Free Laser – It’s A REAL Thing

Can we have a moment of silence for unwanted body hair, it’s really the pitspun kind of intended! Laser Hair Removal 1

Anyway, being an expert of all forms of hair removal with the exception of  shaving, I really was sceptical about the “pain free” part. Side note, I stay as far away from razors as possible because I am convinced that when I use one I will hit a main artery and die. Irrational fear, maybe but I’m not going to try it anytime soon. pulse

After my great facial with LED Light therapy experience at Pulse I decided that Amy knows a bit more about skin care and hair removal than the average skin hair removal guru I’ve come across and decided I don’t really have anything to lose in giving it ago. Just a little bit of history about 2 years ago I went for IPL laser which was great and it definitely thinned out my hair growth but it hurt like what I imagine it feels like to be burnt but under your skin. I only continued with the treatments because I had paid for them upfront and no one in their right minds could possibly find an IPL full bikini treatment as a luxury treatment. The thought of it still makes me shudder and its been about 2 years since my last treatment. Anyway, I digress, so the “Pain Free Laser Hair Removal”, sounded to me like a lot of advertising talk. I have never been so wrong… It’s like a walk in the park.

The most unpleasant part of the treatment is the dry-shave beforehand and the cold gel that is applied to the area being treated. Amy glides that machines over your hairy areas like a pro. It has a slightly warm sensation and occasionally reminded me of a high frequency skin treatment which I’ve had following an odd facial here and there over the years.

Following the treatment my skin was only slightly agitated and that was due to the fact that it had been dry shaved prior to the laser treatment. Next time I go I have been instructed to carefully shave (not hit any arteries and die) to make the Pain Free Laser session shorter and far more effective.

This will be me before my next pain free laser session... pssh first date.

This will be me before my next pain free laser session… pssh first date.

I’ve signed myself up for 6 sessions. So far its only been 10 days since my first treatment and I haven’t noticed an immediate loss of hair but I believe this is going to be my final leap to being completely hair free. Completely and utterly useless fact, I think because I finally did something about my hair growth is the reason why the weather has gone seriously cold and I apologise to everyone about that. It’s just Murphy doing his thing again.

In Awe with INOAR Argan Oil

Everyone is talking about argan oil. Argan oil this, argan oil that. For all we know might be the cure for many ailments that plague us as humankind – can someone please ask some scientists to look at that and get back to us? We all know that argan oil benefits our hair and turns bad hair days into good ones. I am here to give you an example.

INOAR

I have been using argan oil from INOAR.INOAR Argan-oil-60ml_FINAL

Why INOAR, you may ask? Well, INOAR was one of the revolutionary hair care brands that decided that argan oil is a big yes to healing damaged hair and incorporated it as an ingredient in many of their products. The name of the brand was after the founders name INOcentia and ARgan oil – so they haven’t just jumped on the argan oil bandwagon. The brand believes in the ingredient so much they actually named their product after an ingredient.

I’ve been using the INOAR argan oil on my hair for the past couple of months. Even way back when I still had my easihairpro pink extensions in…

INOAR Argan Oil

My method for using this oil? Quite simple actually. Once I have cleaned my hair, I lightly dry it off with a hairdryer. I don’t “blow dry” per say, but then with a drop of INOAR Argan oil, the size of a 20c coin in my hands, I rub them together and work this through my hair. Since I have a naturally oily scalp I only work it through the mid section of my hair to the tips, once most of the oil has been absorbed into my hair, I lightly work my fingers through the top of my head. I don’t think it would be a good idea for me and my scalp to rub some oil on it unless if I want to look like a greasy mess!  The result? It makes my hair have a natural shine and keeps my hair on point all day long. Completely refreshing!

On the odd occasion where I haven’t made use of my INOAR Argan Oil post drying, I always end up with one of those proverbial bad hair days where giant hair clips or Invisibobbles are necessary in order for hair-sanity to be restored.

If you are interested in trying this oil sent from the hair-gods, I urge you to do it. You will only know the difference when you experience it for yourself. INOAR is available at selected salons. They have an online store launching soon too!

INOAR on the web, on Facebook and Twitter @INOAR_SA

Available from your nearest INOAR stocking salon, 7ml for R63 or 60ml for R434.

Veaudry myEASYcomb

Hair styling has never been my forte in life. In fact, when working on set doing faces and getting asked to assist with doing hair I always end up stressing so much on the inside. I never let my fear be known that my hair skills are in actual fact rubbish. Anyway, for shoots you can wing hair for weddings – that’s when I step down. I’d rather leave that to professionals and not steal anyone’s thunder. Especially on their wedding day!

I got home last week to a surprise box, sent to me from Retail Box and in this box was a comb. Not any comb, I’ll tell you, it was a VEUDRY MYEASYCOMB which at first glance I thought what on earth is this contraption? It is essentially a zooped-up comb. For home or salon use specifically when you are straightening your hair. The comb comes with a built in hair sectioning guide to assist with separating pieces for extra speedy hair straightening and even blow drying because that’s what I’ve been using it for and it works like a bomb.

PRO TIP: from the not-so-pro-hair stylist – for hair fall when using the comb to comb through my hair before styling the sectioning guide catches all hair that has fallen which makes it easier to put this in the bin and not all over your body.

Retail price: R195

Retail price: R195

I honestly believe this zooped-up Veaudry comb must of been made by a man that was tired of waiting for the lady in his life to “get on with styling her hair” because they were always late wherever they were going. After only using this wee comb for the past few days my mornings have been left with at least an additional 10 minutes to colour in my face – this results in better looking hair styled by a self confessed hair noob and a beautifully coloured in face (I even contoured this morning – you guys!). I think the people in my office are confused that I can be so prepared for early mornings. Don’t tell them my secret is just a new comb!Thank You

Thank you to Retail Box for allowing me to test this little beast. It has, although very recent, improved my getting-ready morning time. Maybe I need to start timing myself… on the other hand – maybe not, le boyfriend might start getting ideas.

Clean Shiny Hair, Moroccan Style

Every time I end up doing a hair related post I normally always get stuck on the fact that I naturally have a very oily scalp. That means a lot of the products work well but they are not made for me. I initially thought this before I started using the Moroccanoil Extra Volume Shampoo and Moroccanoil Extra Volume conditioner as I was not expecting it to work for me as an everyday shampoo and conditioner. What i thought is that this could be part of a weekly hair treat, you know one on a Sunday afternoon or when i don’t have to face the world afterwards because my scalp reacts and makes my entire hair look horrible. Well, I was wrong. So very wrong. This has become my everyday (sometimes every second day) hair washing ritual.

I am officially hooked on this product… but before I go into details, lets talk about the product itself….

The packaging is very Moroccanoil style generic, it doesn’t look like much 2 250ml bottles, one white – the conditioner and the other blue – the shampoo. It is specifically for fine hair and those that are looking for some extra volume. It is sulphate free and not tested on animals. It is packed with rich nutrients and argan oil to enrich the hair and make it more healthy, shiny and make it have more body.Moroccanoil

It ticks all of the above and more…  both of the products have a masculine woody scent with a slight accent of a floral note, nothing too empowering though as this Shampoo and Conditioner are designed to be unisex. They do however leave your hair with a very sexy scent that lingers when your hair is flicked.

The Extra Volume Shampoo it is a creamy gel which lathers up quickly and rinsing out easily. It leaves my problematic scalp feeling moisturised but not overly stimulated with no irritation.

The Extra Volume Conditioner is a smooth, lightweight and creamy formula. I visibly noticed that with ease it lifted the sign of any tangles (thank you Cape Town wind!).

Overall, when my hair has been washed with the Moroccanoil Extra Volume Shampoo and Extra Volume Conditioner I have noticed a visible difference in the condition of my scalp. This I believe is down to the rich argan oil which is present in the products. My hair can last up to two days with no washing (huge achievement for me) and retaining its shine while being naturally lifted from the root. A little certainly goes a long way, to my shampoo bottle I have used only half of my conditioner. So I will need to restock on my shampoo before I have finished my conditioner.

I am going to be stocking up this weekend from my nearest hair salon… You can get your paws on the Moroccanoil Extra Volume Shampoo for R290 and the Moroccanoil Extra Volume Conditioner for R310!

#GOODY BAG – WHAT DID I GET FROM THE KRYOLAN/EDL Hair & Beauty LAUNCH PARTY?

On the 24th January 2015 I attended the EDL Hair & Beauty Studio on Lynnwood and KRYOLAN launch party.

It was a fabulous affair indeed, there was lights, cameras and a lot of glamorous action.

IMG_1376

We were surrounded with champagne, delicacies, music, photographers, sexy cars, people, celebs of course and so much more.  The EDL store was open for business and tours for anyone at the launch.  The owners Natalie & Esidio Camara and Elaine & Danny de Lima can be extremely proud of what they’ve achieved with this salon.  Across the board is the consensus that this salon is totally different to any other in South Africa.  It is a clean, refreshing, vibrant, professional space with that European feeling, as it’s situated right next to AROMA.

You will always see the owners, manager,  the professional artists, hair stylists, nail and beauty therapists there.  Ready to make you feel very special.

Towards the end of the evening, some of us lucky women received a gift bag with lots of goodies in.   The items were:
