Woody Woodcooker

It is hard to call a wood buring oven an innovation as it has been around for years, a lot longer than the traditional electric or gas oven; but a wood buring oven has never has never been so attractive than in times of load shedding. Trying to feed a family or oganise food when you are sitting in the dark in the 6pm – 8pm slot is the worst, and so incosiderate of the governement. However, that could change, and I could have a solution for that right here in this short article.

I was invited last week to experience a unique way of cooking from the home, a very unique way of entertaining and a very must-have new toy for the house, a Woody Woodcooker. This wood burning oven was the most unique one I’ve come across to date – mainly because it was built on top of a trailer for a traditional view of wood burning fast food. This sounds bizarre but the delectable treats that came out of that trailer/ wood burning oven were nothing less than DELICIOUS and it only took a few minutes.

South Africans are no strangers to lighting a fire and throwing some meat on it, we affectionately call this a braai, and other parts of the world know a braai to be a barbeque, the results of which are no doubt delicious (provided I am not put in charge of the braa meat); we in South Africa, and dare I say the rest of the world are also no strangers to wood fired ovens as this is a big tag line used to push more pizza out the doors at popular pizza take outs – so why does this idea of having a wood burning oven in the home seem so foreign? Well, in retrospect, after being introduced to one, it really should not seem foreign. After meeting the brain child of the colourful Cape Town local Woody Woodcooker, Mr. Darin Sacker, the creator of a wood burning oven which has a heat efficient design that will allow you to cook a variety of foods from the comfort of your own home without having to rely on Eskom to do so.

You don’t have to simply cook pizzas, although if and when I get mine installed I think that is all le boyfriend and I will love off pizza for years, reminiscing of our Italian trip last year… Woody Woodcooker allows to cook a roast meal in the oven, or grill fish or even bake a cake and of course make wood fired pizzas.

Darin’s, Woody Woodcooker will truly challenge your ideals on cooking and installing one in your home could easily challenge the ideals of who is the head chef in your household.

Alongside manufacturing wood ovens for private installs,  Darin has accomplished great feats of organising parties for adults and children alike.

“I enjoy the challenge of catering for 21sts or other big parties. We’ve had as many as 200 guests enjoying a constant stream of fresh, host pizza from the mobile oven.

Our  wood cookers can be found in homes and restaurants in South Africa, Zanzibar and the Seychelles. Some of our clients are bankers and others are start-ups or established catering businesses.”

Unique to Darin’s company is that he creates the ovens to a client’s specifications and once the oven is installed he doesn’t simply leave it at that, he will ensure that his clients are able to use it to their full potential with training and he even gives them some tips on how to get the best food out of their oven as well as a widely tested collection of recipes for the best out of your oven for years to come.

For more information on the wood cooker or getting one installed, check out Woody Woodcooker.

PARADISE IS HERE…

Wallpaper is a hot 2015 trend in interior design. I know, I know, the word wallpaper also raises a lot of thoughts in my mind of all the old houses I used to frequent in the UK and always used to think… yuck this stuff is so out-dated…. It has made the proverbial comeback, think of platform shoes but with more of a serious impact. This trend from the 1970’s is changing the game in interior design.groovy

We all know, without a doubt that the best music and care-free groovy living came from the 70s. Can you tell I was born in the wrong era? Hippies, free love, big hair, free spirits, flowers in hair, the best music festivals and let’s not forget… wall paper! Not necessarily in that order, but you understand where I’m going with this…

Well, Skinny laMinx and Robin Sprong have changed the ball game in wall paper and collaborated resulted in the newly launched the PARADISE IS HERE wallpaper collection.

Let your eyes feast on the wonderful designs which can only add to your interior design but combining classic and modern in the same setting to create super stylish and comfortable spaces.

#MY WEDDING DAY – service providers – THE WEDDING CAKE

Good morning dahling! 🌷

Hope you’ve been following the posts about my wedding and the service providers who made that day extra special.

Today’s post is all about the WEDDING CAKE! 🎂

I didn’t want a typical 5 tiered wedding cake layered in heavy fondant. One just never knows how dry those cakes are on the day. I just wanted seperate cakes with different flavors where every guest could slice what they wanted. So don’t expect to see a typical wedding cake!

We found a patisserie in Johannesburg called THE PATISSERIE and immediately fell in love with it. This hidden treasure is very popular among those ‘in the know’ and I could see why! Helen the owner makes the most divine macaroons. The best I’ve ever had. After Nicholas and I had them, it didn’t take much to convince us that Helen at THE PATISSERIE would be making our wedding cakes.

We had a meeting and discussed flavors, and all the other details. Of course we ordered 200 macaroons too and they were placed with the desserts at the venue.

We decided on 6 cakes.

🍰LEMON CHIFFON
🍰VANILLA WITH A MARSHMALLOW 🍰FROSTING
🍰DECADENT CHOCOLATE
🍰BAKED CHEESECAKE
🍰CARROT CAKE

Blingy Bathrooms at Ridiculous Prices

Hi Poutlings!

After splurging that last pay cheque on your hubby for his custom made $91,500 [R869,200] crocodile t-shirt, why not start on some interior decorating, to match your million rand manicure for the house with all your left over change?

Catchpole & Rye are the only bathroom company who manufacture exclusively in England and the latest talk of town piece, the claw footed bejewelled bath tub with four different types of Swarovski crystals which are used to obtain the uniform effect is made in their Kent foundry using only traditional methods and employing artisan techniques in every part of the process.

If the white crystals are not your cup of tea, Catchpole & Rye will gladly customise the tub for you, on offer they have different shades of Swarovski crystals including gold, blue and green. Incorporated in the layers of Swarovski, names can be spelt out or crests and logos in different coloured crystals.

Tony O’Donnell the managing director of Catchpole & Rye defends the undeniable exorbitant price on the bath:

“It was to do something exotic. We did a job for a princess in the middle east and se was very much into her bling, and that’s where the idea stems from. If you have the money, you want the bath, then the price isn’t the issue. There is a huge amount of work that goes into it, hundreds of hours, it’s all English craftsmanship. It’s a one off; where else are you going to see another one like it?”

If you are in the area, its on show in the Catchpole & Rye showroom in Kent, and of course, is available to buy from Harrods.

While you’re upgrading your ‘tub, how about the rest of the bathroom as surely Bathroom Bizarre will not cut it next to this one of a kind bath? Get your paws on a golden plated sink with crystals on the taps, or, better yet, a Swarovski studded toilet.

The Isis Collection

The Isis Collection

The Isis collection by designer Jemal Wright of Hollywood features blinged out bathroom fixtures including a glittering toilet which will set you back $75,00 [R675,000]. Do not forget the little people in your life – get a My Carry Potty which allows them to join in on the bling-loo-craze from an early age which would only set you back £700 [R9,800].

blingytoddler

So, who is thinking of a little bit of DIY and blinging up their bathrooms in this weekend? Oh, I do joke, if you have this money to spend on doing your bathroom up then, you will surely move away to your holiday home elsewhere while there are people, you employ to do all the DIY in your home. 😉

However, if you are wondering, I have not yet figured out how I am going to pay for my bathtub just yet, but I shall find a way. It has to be the most ostentatious way possible to relax and unwind after a long day. Who wants to lend me some money?
