The Stress Factor

GOOD MORNING STRESSI’ve found myself in a different state of mind the past few months, or the whole year really if I look back. My career is changing which inevitably means that my whole life is changing, even though a career is only a small part of ones life it does influence and affect your life in many ways; on top of that I have an upcoming holiday planned to Italy which I am not prepared for… then there are bills to be paid, a fridge to be filled with groceries and a house that needs cleaning, laundry to be done and so the list goes on! You know what I’m talking about, general life stress. I’ve found that it is really frazzling my nerves out to no end. Constant worrying, struggling to sleep, literally losing my hair, anxiousness, constantly tired and just stressed in every sense of the word. Stress can be paralyzing and doing things within your power to cope is empowering and makes you feel better in the long run.

I have done a bit of reading on how to cope with stress and the basic consensus is that stress is unavoidable, it will always barge into your life uninvited and its easy to let it bully you into feeling helpless but there are many things one can do in order to cope with various stresses. Here is a short guide from me on how I try to cope with everyday stress…

Identify the cause of the stress.STRESS

Sometimes when we are stressed our entire existance seems to be one huge stress factor and every corner you look there are different stressors staring you in the face and you end up taking the defensive position which is not the best solution. Stop spinning in stress. Identiy what you are actually stressed about. Is it a specific project at work, an exam, a fight with a friend, dirty dishes or laundry which are piled up? By enabling yourself to learn to identify the main culprit of stress will enable you to feel one small step towards getting organised and taking action.

You cannot control everything.

You will never be able to be in charge of what your in laws say or the sad state of affair that our country is in, you can learn to control how you react, how you accomplish work and how you spend your own time and what you spend your money on. The worst thing to stress about is things beyond your control as this makes you even MORE stressed and makes you feel helpless.

Spend time doing what you love.

If working your passion is not possible then take another approach and think about life. It is much easier when you manage various bundles of stress in between doing activities you love. If this is not possibly all the time make sure you spend time doing the hobbies you are passionate about. If you haven’t found a passion yet spend some time experimenting with different hobbies. Write, paint, sing, dance, go for a walk. The possibilities for finding a passion are endless and don’t give up if you have yet to find yours.

Time management is key.

One of the biggest stresses in my life is what I perceive to be a lack of time to get stuff done. I never wanted to be one of those people who have to schedule everything into a diary but if I didnt, I wouldnt get time to spend with friends or family. Family and friend time to me is one of the biggest and most enjoyable times to have and it makes me sad that I feel like I have to schedule time for it but in order to give my all to these people whom I love so much, I really do have to schedule them in between all the other stuff that needs to get done.

If all else fails, just book yourself into a salon and have a massage to try and destress your body and try even harder to de-stress your mind. Remember, someone busier than you is having a massage right now!!

Hello to you Bride-to-be!

In October I will be a bride myself, and I cannot wait to be one. I’ll be marrying the most wonderful man, and I want to look really stunning, for him and myself.

Doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks about what you as a bride looks like on your day. However, for the rest, parents of the bride and groom have a say about the wedding, ESP if they’re paying.

This post is my take on bridal makeup tips for your big day, and of course for my own big day.

* If you are a woman who loves wearing loads of makeup everyday, why would you go minimal for your big day. Nothing is worse than not looking like yourself on your wedding day. This is the day you’re photographed the most. Of course, the same applies if you hardly wear makeup on a day-to-day basis. Don’t go off the path lady! Be you! The one thing you can do is, neaten up your look!

* Invest in a proper silicon primer. This will only give your foundation a flawless finish. Primers from SMASHBOX, WOOLWORTHS, INGLOT will ensure you have that smooth look. It also acts as a moisturizer in a way. Since many moisturizers tend to give an oily look and feel. Rather moisturize the night before, and only use the primer on the day.

* Having a facial a week before your wedding can be a mistake. Many people don’t believe that, but our skin needs to go back to its “natural” state. With a facial, it’s still very oily, and sometimes sensitive. Foundation doesn’t stick too well onto “freshly facial’d” skin. (As I say it).

* Need I say more? Ok, there are some guild lines, like don’t over pluck! Biggest mistake ever. The fuller look will make you look younger and fresher. And what ever you do, please don’t make crazy high arches.

* It is pretty simple. Two things you need to know here:
A) wear false lashes if you’re a fan of wearing a lot of makeup.
B) wear extensions if your a minimal makeup person.
The false lashes make a line, which you won’t see with a strong eyeliner, but extensions look natural. Have it professionally applied a few months before, so that you can get used to caring for the extensions. Remember to avoid the “real mink hair” lashes. We like to be cruelty free here.

* This is not the time to paste splashy pinks, blues, etc on your eyes. If you feel this contradicts what I said in tip 1, don’t be fooled. Of course you can apply all your makeup, but if you’re seriously keen on color, only apply a fine line on the bottom lash line. No neon! No glitter liner! Sorry. You are only going to get so far.

* Ensure your foundation matches your chest and not necessarily your neck. Depending on your dress, apply a tiny amount on your chest for photo flash purposes. Not too close to the dress though. You don’t want to have disgusting foundation sweat marks on your dress.

* A qualified and talented makeup artist is key. Doesn’t mean it’s that one with the most Facebook or twitter fans. It’s the one that takes your personality, feelings and look into consideration. Have makeup trials. Not just bridal makeup trials, but for any occasion. If you are going out for a party, bridal shower, dinner date, etc have the makeup artist do your makeup. This gives you both an opportunity to get to know each other way before the wedding. Build a relationship with a makeup artist you like. (And to my fellow makeup artists, do your own makeup for your wedding day! You know what you’re doing, you know your face and in a way, it’s some “me-time”).

* Is your dress soft and romantic, big and poofy, classy and understated, classic and lacy, sexy and voluptuous?…. Etc
Well, your makeup should follow suit. A big poofy princess-like dress doesn’t go well with a minimal makeup look. Neither will a sexy dress. So take your look into consideration when thinking of your makeup.

* Have a small round clutch bag for your wedding. You don’t need to hold it for the ceremony or photos, but have a bridesmaid or guest look after it for you until you get into reception. In it have lipgloss, lipstick, lip liner, eye liner, mascara, foundation/powder compact, blush. It may seem like a lot, but it really isn’t. You can even go to your favorite makeup store and ask for sample products. Makeup application never looks complete if your lips look naked! Always apply and touch up!

I hope these tips will help you on your big day, as I really believe in them.

..So how are you supposed to catch the attention of your crush with all those blackheads your dealing with this season!?beauty-113get-rid-of-blackheadsblackheads

What is a BLACKHEAD?

Well, blackheads are yellow or blackish bumps on the skin, and usually found on the face or the back. Blackheads are caused by excess oils that have accumulated in the sebaceous gland‘s duct. The substance found in these bumps mostly consists of keratin and modified sebum (an oily secretion of the sebaceous gland), which darkens as it oxidizes, NOT PRETTY AT ALL..

Face mask for blackheads, acne and blemishes:

1 egg white beaten

1 tsp. lemon juice

First beat the egg white, then slowly beat in the lemon juice.

Apply on your face, and leave for 15 to 20 minutes while you maybe read your favourite magazine to pass time, then rinse off.

Olive oil mask (for blemishes):

1/2 tsp. of olive oil

1/2 tsp. lemon juice.

Mix the ingredients together well.

Allow the application to remain on skin for 15 minutes, while you maybe browse the net to keep busy, before washing off.
Apple Mask- for acne and oily skin:

1 medium size apple

5 tbs. honey

Take 1 medium size apple, grated fine, 5 tbs. honey. Mix the grated apple and honey together well. Smooth over your skin and let it sit for 10 minutes while maybe manicuring your nails to pass time, then rinse off with cool water.

Blackhead Mask:

1/2 cup of lemon juice
4 drops of lavender oil
1 tsp. of butter
1/2 cup of crushed oats
1 tbsp. salt
4 tbsp. of grated apple
Mix it all together and apply evenly over your skin, leave to dry while maybe texting your crush to pass time, and then wash off thoroughly.

Face mask for blackheads and cleaning your pores:

1/2 cup of melted butter
1/3 cup of skim or normal milk
2 tsp. of oatmeal
1 inch slice of a mashed cucumber
1/4 cup of yogurt
1 tsp. of honey
2 tsp. of naturally squeezed lemon
Mix and blend all these ingredients together until it has become a liquid. Then apply it to your face in a circular motion. Wash it off then in 15 minutes after maybe slicing some nice watermelon to munch on afterwards.

These methods help with getting rid of blackheads and cleaning your pores. Your face will be fabulously soft, fresh and have a healthy shine to match your smile, and not only will you be ready to strut your stuff on the beach without trying to keep indoors, because of nasty skin blemishes.. you will also be able to get close up with your crush this season thanks to the help of some ingredients that are already easy to find in your fridge, and also affordable to stock up on.

I hope these tricks work for you poutlings! Have a poutalitious day further!

Celeb Spotlight : Jack Osbourne on Having MS

Hi Poutlings

At the beginning of the week it was announced that Jack Osbourne has recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. MS is an autoimmune diesease that destroys the myelin sheath of the nerves, causing all sorts of neurological problems in sufferers.

MS  has severy different types which vary in severity. In his Hello! interview, Jack revealed that he has “relapsing remitting” MS, which is considered the “mildest” form of the disease, relatively, and is characterized by doctors as “very treatable“. On the interview and in some of his tweets after the news came out, Jack sounded like he was keeping positive about the diagnosis. MS is one those diseases where people may look “fine”, but may be very tired, dizzy or having problems with vision or balance.

I’ve got too many resonsibilities now to dwell on the fact that, in 40 years, I could be in a wheelchair. You have to take it a day at a time.”

My uncle on her side has MS and, the way mum is, she thinks that somehow it’s her fault. Both my parents were handling it way worse than I was; they were pretty shaken up about the whole thing. They felt upset for me more than anything, and with the timing being so horrible, so soon after [his daughter] Pearl’s birth.”

In a recent TV appearance on The Talk, Sharon couldnt keep it all together and when talking about Jack’s MS. He received the diagnosis about a month ago and it’s obviously still hitting her hard. She thanked everyone for their well wishes for Jack.

Thank you to everyone for all their good wishes. It’s been amazing… for Jack ’cause I really believe that vibes of prayer help.” “What I’m doing is not helping anyone because I’m just feeling sorry for myself. So we have to think positively.”

I have loads of respect for Sharon as a business woman, but this made me have respect for her as a mother, and for anyone that loves to say the Osbournes are rude so-and-so’s who love to pick fight with people, you cannot deny that they sure are a super closefamily.

Jack also tweeted thanks to the people who have supported him throughout this. He also wrote in his new motto #adaptandovercome

For those of you who know about MS, Jack revealed his treatment plan in Hello!. He said he’s about to start a medication called Copaxone, which is a daily injection – a huge amount of fluid he’ll have to self inject. It helps control inflammation. He also said a big part of treating MS is the lifestyle you live, eating heathily, not drinking or smoking, excerise and minimize stress… He added that “everyone should be doing this.” Good advice Jack.

I’m moved by Jack’s story and his attitude, and I know he will go a long way toward educating people about this disease. I hope his health continues to improve. It’s clear he has a lot of family and support around him.

In lighter news, Jack got the chance to promote his new show on the Syfy network, HAUNTED HIGHWAY, which premieres in the States on 3 July. It’s a paranormal reality TV show, where “Jack Osbourne & Dana Workman and Jael de Pardo & Devin Marble do their own first-person investigations of the most frightening claims of paranormal activity along America’s remote back roads.” It looks like a reality show version of the Blair Witch Project, I love these shows even though they creep me out.

Product Review ~ Africology Neroli Body Balm

Hello poutlings!

Well well well, let me tell you about a wonderful product, that I just love and keep in my handbag at all times.

In my December Robybox I received a Africology Neroli Body Balm

This product sells for R210 for 125ml

Ok first off, as you know from some previous posts, I absolutely adore anything that contains Neroli oil. So It came as no surprise that I truly loved this product. Oh, and dare I mention it’s proudly South African?

Every Africology product is 100% natural and free from any potentially harmful chemicals and the aromatic, signature base blend of African potato, rooibos, aloe ferox and marula. This combination of ingredients has powerful healing and regenerative properties.

The Neroli Body Balm combines the signatures ingredients with Neroli oil.

This product is super moisturising, and as an added bonus, after a long day just add a teaspoon full of this product to your bath for a nourishing and relaxing bath. And since this a product for South Africa and the African sun, keep some in your bag for those sunny days when you had just a little too much sun, dabble some on your warm skin if you’re a little sun burnt and the balm will soothe your burned skin and keep it supple and soft.

I do hope to be able to try out some of these products in due time and tell you more about it.

Have a pretty pouting day!
