Roxy Swimwear Promo Blasted as ‘Sexplotation’

Dearest Poutlings,

Roxy swimwear recently had a promotional trailer for the Roxy Pro Biarritz 2013, which every year for the last 8 years Roxy has brought together the world’s best women surfers to Biarritz for an original blend of elite surfing and current music. The teaser trailer leading up to announcing who will be joining the Roxy team entitled #WhoAmIJustGuess has caused quite a huge stir in the media, but for what reason – who knows!!

OR if you cannot watch, it starts off with a  woman rolling of bed in her underwear, proceeding to put on an oversize white button down blouse which she then drops to the floor to get in the shower… it follows her grab her board and drive to the beach where so puts on a pink Roxy rash guard, and then ends with her paddling out in the ocean. You never see her face but you become quite acquainted with her bum, which she is fortunately blessed to have a good looking one.

The Guardian’s Tia Calvo labelled it a “voyeuristic semi soft-core porn clip,” saying it was offensive because it “is representing a professional sport which has been fighting a long and on going battle for gender equality.”

Firstly, GET A GOD DAMN LIFE. There is NO gender inequality, in fact if a same teaser trailer was released for Quicksilver, for example, with only a male surfer, and focussed on his arse and abs, rather than a mystery woman’s butt and bare back, I can guarantee you it would not be as visually appealing nor “sexist” and secondly, sex sells as do attractive bodies. This woman is a talented, in more than one aspect, and that is what a professional surfers figure looks like.

I back up Roxy 110% in this instance, and this is what they addressed the public backlash on their Facebook page saying:

“Woman are complex and multi-dimensional. To ignore this fact is to ignore who we truly are. We believe all athletes are naturally beautiful, in and out of the water. You certainly don’t have to be sexy to be an athlete, & we also believe it’s not wrong to be an athlete and to be sexy, if you choose to be.”

The mystery woman was later announced to be Stephanie Gilmore, and so sue her, she’s hot. I’m pretty sure she was stoked to be featured on such a worldwide coverage – OTHERWISE she wouldn’t of let it happen!

People need to calm the hell down and get on with life, and if you have a problem with this – how do you embrace the media daily? There is FAR worse things going on that constitute ‘sexplotation’.

ABSsolutely Fabulous!

Now Ladies we all want a super models body yet we have to remember we all have different body types, shapes and sizes!

So Poutlings here are some amazing AB workouts!

These are some of my favourite ab workouts! Training abs is one of my favourite body parts to train! Sharing my secrets is always a pleasure!

Remember with ab workouts, a lot of hard work is required, they are a large muscle group so doing 10min abs won’t help get that six pack or a washboard stomach!

AB Workout 1: Leg Raises

A simple exercise, but one which you must be careful with. Remember to never put strain on your back or neck during any ab workout.

For leg raises, you simply climb on the machine and raise your legs, if you a beginner start off with bent knees and once you feel strong enough raise your legs straight up with knees straight.

Stand on the chair and grip handholds to stabilize your upper body.
Press your back against the pad and contract the abs to raise the legs and lift knees towards your chest.
Don’t arch the back or swing the legs up.
Slowly lower back down and repeat for 1-5 sets of 12-16 reps.

AB Workout 2: Incline sit ups

This is yet another simple exercise, remember to keep your back straight and not to put strain on your neck.

Sit on the chair, with legs under supportive grips.
Hands behind head, raise your chest towards your knees.
Slowly lower back down and repeat for 1-5 sets of 12-16 reps.

AB Workout 3: Kettlebell Side Crunch

This exercise can be done using either kettlebells or dumbells, I personally prefer the Kettlebell.

Standing with feet shoulder width apart, a Kettlebell in each hand.
Bend side to side, making sure you can feel the stretch in your sides.
Slowly go down and back up on each side and repeat for 1-5 sets of 12-16 reps.

AB Workout 4: Rope Crunch

You need a lot of strength for this exercise, focus on your abs thought the whole movement.

Kneeling straight up with rope behind you.
Slowly bend forward, focusing on abs and slowly go back up.
Repeat for 1-5 sets of 12-16 reps.

AB Workout 5: Lying Leg Raise

This exercise work wonders ladies.
Keep your back straight and neck relaxed.

Start lying flat on the floor, you may hold onto a machine with your arms to give you some support.
Raise your legs up, make sure they straight, lifting your bum off the bench or floor once legs have been fully straightened.

So Poutlings, work hard and push through. Do ab workouts for no less than half an hour and watch what you eat, or results will take time.
