PFW: Jean Paul Gaultier – ’80s Gay Icons – Not as Fabulous As It Sounds…

Hiya Poutlings

There are not many words falling out of my gawping mouth as aI look again and again at the tribute to ’80s gay icons that was Jean Paul Gaultier‘s Spring 2013 runway show at Paris Fashion Week.

We all love some Madonna, Grace Jones and Boy George, but this is a cringe-worthy pop parade which did neither Jean Paul Gaultier nor the memories of these artists in their prime any justice, whatsoever.

Let the pictures do the talking with my running internal dialog of what I think:

Opening with Mork and Mindy V-tuxedo a la Grace Jones

On to more androgyny with a few Annie Lennox-es

Madonna look 1 – Blonde Ambition

Madonna look 2 – Like a Virgin

More Boy George circa Culture Club Karma Chameleon than is healthy for the senses

Michael Jackson-alikes. Dear God will it end. Philip Treacy wrung this one dry… and I have not yet blogged about, but I may do so… but Michael Jackon scares me.

oh look… a Jamie Foxx look-a-like…

Aaah, Sade.

Ziggy Bizarre-dust

The ugliest garment to ever walk a Paris runway, EVER.

and in true Jean Paul Gaultier style, he closed the runway with a bunch of late ’80s bondage house dancers – which in fairness should close everything ever.

one of the bondage house dancers who closed Jean Paul Gaultier’s show…

Jean Paul Gaultier got dealt a tough card with having to follow Phillip Treacy’s dramatic London show which featured Michael Jackson’s actual costumes, the show was only 2 weeks ago so that kinda leaves Jean Paul sitting in the dust behind Phillip Treacy. I may even have to blog about Phillip Treacy’s show, just to show you the awe of the garments he made, but the thoughts of looking at lots of Michael Jackson-likes scares me, he really does scare me.

As with Jean Paul Gaultier’s Amy Winehouse tribute last season, Jean Paul is on what seems to be an unstoppable attempt to bring back an irrelevant circus act.

What do you think of his collection? Did it hurt your eyes like it did mine??

LFW: saying “Fabulous” In a British Accent

Hiya Poutlings

Hope you’re all doing faaaabulous!! Anyway, anyone been keeping up with London Fashion week? Well, I have, but very briefly.

Who are the front row fame ho’s at this Fashion Week? Well, its certainly not lived up to the celebrity drenched hub that is NYC.

Even New York this year wasn’t up to it’s usual star-spotting standard. This year was just dull in having couples who add up to one mega star between the two of them, I mean Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas or even Kim Krapdashian and Kanye West *vomit* I’d much rather have a Gwen Stafani or a Tilda Swinton over those couples, you know, people who really are known and matter substantially more? Yes. Those!

London, on the other hand has been even more disappointing. A group of “It” fashionaista models, Laura Bauley, Poppy Delevigne, bloggers and self-affected children, Alexa Chung, Kelly Osbourne, Pixie Geldof… oh and of course, Lady Gaga jumping up and down looking for attention, again… a bit like an annoying little dog, but worse.

The highlights of the lowlights so far:

At Henry Holland, Alexa Chung tells the other spiffingly fabulous fashion twigs how she doesn’t even know why anyone is interested in her.

Kelly Osbourne interrupts and offers advice on how to wear sunglasses and speak in two accents at once. And say “all fashion” all the time on TV.

At Burberry, Anna Wintour having a old girls meet ‘n greet with photographer Mario Testino. She actually looks her age in this snake print suit from the cruise ship boutique.

Dita Von Teese starts an impromptu outdoor burlesque by sexily dropping her umbrella then remembers she’s wearing corseting that renders her incapable of even scratching her head and waitis a knight in a shining retro tuxedo to save her.

Who ever the hell Tali Lennox is (I guess by the name she is Annie’s kid – maybe!), I like her Burberry Prorsum swag.

Who ever the hell this chick is needs to go back to her struggling artists loft and brush her hair…

Samantha Cameron wonders why she can’t sit with a bitchy fashion blogger or a child of celebrity.

Child of American music royalty, Daisy Lowe shows no sign of her step mother, Gwen Stefani’s style, grace or genuine rock ‘n roll attitude.

14 year old Marc Jacobs’ muse Elle Fanning shows up to Topshop Unique straight from school… Aaah, does it make you miss how glamourous school uniform can be? hahha. NAAT.

Olivia Palermo does it up proper fashion, like also at Unique. She has an uncanny ability to make you want to buy clothes that will make you look like you are wearing a black plastic bin bag.

…well that’s all for now folks.

THE DIAMOND JUBILEE

Hiya Poutlings…

As I am Pout Perfection‘s only royal, haha, just kidding, British blogger 😉 I thought it was my royal duty to shed some light on the current royal pageantry going on in the UK at the moment. As, just speaking to a work colleage I was shocked that they didn’t know it was currently the Diamond Jubilee!!

Shock!! Horror!!

The Diamond Jubilee is another way to say it has been a whole 60 years since Queen Elizabeth || became queen. Technically, it kicked off on the 6 February, 2012, 60 years since her father died in 1952 and so replaced him as the monarch at the age of 25, but the main event started on this past Saturday.

60 YEARS ON THE THRONE… QUEEN ELIZABETH ||

Queen Elizabeth || is only the second British monarch to reach 60 years on the throne. Back in 1897, when Queen Victoria marked the same anniversary, she was much weaker, having to celebreate the Julibee service from her open carriage sitting outside of St. Pauls Cathedral. If you know little abpout Queen Elizabeth ||, you’d likely recognize her in bright coloured outfits and big hats still visiting crowds of people at the age of 86. She’s not slowing down for the current Central Weekend, which includes celebrations across the UK and Commonwealth for the queen’s 60 year rule, from Saturday 2 June, til Tuesday 5 June.

If you want to follow along at home here is what you should know. You might even consider throwing a Diamond Jubilee party, complete with Corgis, favours and tea.

WHO: The royal family and commoners alike.

WHAT: Street parties, a concert at Buckingham Palace, a flotilla pageant down the Thames and more!

WHERE: In London, across the UK, and throughout the Commonwealth, the group of nations formally belonging to the British Empire, some of which still have Queen Elizabeth as their head of state.

WHEN: Monday, 4th of June and Tuesday 5th of June are “bank holidays“/ public holidays to us South Africans… so its a four day weekend. Are you jealous? I sure am.

Here is my breakdown of the events, there are plenty of official events lists elsewhere on the net, this is the interesting stuff:

2ND JUNE: The queen, an avid horse lover, has attended Epson Derby, the most prestigious horse race in Britain.

QUEEN ELIZABETH || AT EPSON DERBY ON SATURDAY!

3RD JUNE: Everyday people will get together for The Big Jubilee Lunch, a meal shared among neighbours in the form of a traditional street party or small picnic. Meanwhile, the Queen will participate in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant, consisting of 1,000 boats from across the UK, the Commonwealth, and around the world. The Queen and Prince Phillip will be on the Royal Barge, the center of the flotilla.

The Big Julibee Lunch

The Royal Barge passes St. Paul’s Cathedral during the Diamond Jubilee River Pageant along the River Thames to Tower Bridge

4TH JUNE: (Today) The BBC is throwing a concert at Buckingham Palace, with tickets open to the public and kicking off at 7:30pm, London Time. The Queen and the other memembers of the royal family will enjoy music by sir Elton John, Annie Lennox, Paul McCartney and more.

Sir Elton John, on the line up for the concert

Annie Lennox – on the line up for the concert

Sir Paul McCartney, also on the line up for the big concert.

5TH JUNE: The big party ends with a day of celebrations in Central London. There will be carriage rides, a service at St. Paul’s, and an appearance at Buckingham Palace by the royal family at approximately 3:25pm London time – maybe Will and Kate might sneak another royal kiss again.

As you were Pouters!
