She doesn’t appear awkward, neither miserable, she just looks wow. She still has the same facial expression but the campaign photographer Craig McDean knows how to make her look amazing.

What do you think?

Gweneth Paltrow covers Harpers Bazaar May 2013

Hiya Poutlingsgwyneth-paltrow-harper-bazaar-may2013-1

Gweneth Paltrow has appeared on the cover of Harpers Bazaar magazine for the May 2013 issue. She reveals her fears for getting older and her secrets of staying beautiful throughout her life.

this has to be the only image I'm not that fond of from the shoot, it appears "plastic" to me... what about you?

this has to be the only image I’m not that fond of from the shoot, it appears “plastic” to me… what about you?

Wearing a Balenciaga look, Gweneth looks cheerful on the cover. Caught on the lenses by Daniel Jackson and beautified by makeup artist/stylist Julia von Boehm, she reveals all her deepest secrets of life after turning 40, which happened last year…. can you believe it??

“You know, I use organic products, but I get laser. It’s what makes life interesting, finding the balance between cigarettes and tofu. I’ve probably tried everything… I would be scared to go under the knife, but you know, talk to me when I’m fifty. I’ll try anything. Except I won’t do Botox again, because I looked crazy.”

Everything is not as fatal as it may appear. She is rational about getting older and asks herself different questions about the possibility of getting into more films, having another child, moving back to the USA. However, she also had some fears but she has learnt from them in the past.

“I don’t hold on to fear as much as I used to, because I’ve learned a lot about genuinely not caring what strangers think about me. It’s very liberating. It’s very empowering, and I’ve learned a lot of that from Jay – Shawn Carter – Z, because his approach to life is very internal. It’s a very good lesson to learn.”

She was reminiscent about her married life, she and her husband, Chris Martin are becoming really close since their marriage in 2003.

“We are growing into very similar people. It’s cool, it’s good. It’s not always easy though!”

She has been quite active in her work life, appearing in movies such as Thanks for Sharing, The Avengers and the coming movie, Iron Man 3, while she is also rumoured to be in another unnamed movie due in 2014.

Skinny Minnie…

Hiya Poutlings

I breifly touched on this issue on our Facebook Page. The Barneys New York holiday campaign Electric Holiday featuring fashionable yet ultra skinny versions of Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck has officially ticked off plus size models and eating disorder specialists.

DESIGNER MINNIE MOUSE

Plus sized models Robin Lawley, Lizzie Miller and Courtney Legare have joined 135,000 supporters in a Change.org campaign against skinny versions of Disney characters Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck for the Electric Holiday campaign, which calls to cancel the holiday window display featuring 5’11” size zero versions of Disney cartoon characters. Eating disorder experts and celebrity endorsements are adding fuel to the campaign against “skinny Minnie”, saying instead of it being a light hearted campaign, it’s sending a negative message to young girls and…

DESIGNER DAISY DUCK

“there is something wrong with changing a beloved childrens characters body so it looks good in a dress that almost nobody looks good in – adding to the tremendous pressure on young girls and women to attain photoshop perfection. The problem isn’t with Minnie’s body, it’s with a dress that only looks good on a woman who is 5’11 and a size zero.”

DESIGNER GOOFY

Barneys and Disney released this joint statement countering the campaign saying…

“We are saddended that activists have repeatedly tried to disort a light hearted holiday project in order to draw media attention to themselves.”

Barneys creative director Dennis Freedman explain his reasoning about Minnie’s smaller frame…

“The standard Minnie Mouse will not look so good in a Lanvin dress. There was a real moment of silence because these characters don’t change. I said, ‘if we’re going to make this work, we have to have a 5 foot 11 Minnie,’ and they agreed. When you see Goofy, Minnie and Mickey, they are runway models.”

Coming from a fashion industry professionals perspective, this is not out of the question. If Minnie and Goofy were to star in a fashion campaign, then they should look like models who walk the runways.

While the campaign is bringing attention to important issues such as eating disorders and how the fashion industry affects body perceptions, are these versions of Disney characters viewed through a fashion lens controversial or truly light hearted?

With the complaint that high fashion skews skinny anyway, we aren’t seeing anything new here. Many fashion designers make clothing specifically for smaller sized individuals. Even Balenciaga admitted to cutting their clothing to flatter smaller sized customers only and Karl Lagerfeld stated that he believes that anorexia and the fashion industry are not related.

But the industry is slowly starting to change. Burberry is collaborating with Adele to create their first plus-sized line and Ralph Lauren used their first plus-sized model in a campaign (ironically model Robin Lawley is one of the models speaking out against “Skinny Minnie”). The creative director of Barneys did state that the traditional Minnie would not look good in a Lanvin dress, but that’s a problem with the industry. Harrods is doing a designer Disney princess themed window for the holiday season that highlights what the Disney Princesses would wear wear if they wore couture designer dresses. Is there a difference between the two? Why is the one receiving more negative press than the other? Maybe this calls for another blog post…

Now, I turn to you dear readers. What are your thoughts on BARNEYS ELECTRIC HOLIDAY VERSION OF MINNIE AND DAISY. Will our future generation of children’s body perceptions be affected by these altered versions of their Disney favourites or are they innocent interpretation from a fashion perspective?

Let me have your opinions, s’il vous plait.

MODEL ALERT : Julia Nobis

Heya Poutlings!

I love sharing with you some of the fantastic models I think are real ROLE MODELS to anyone that is aspiring to be the best model they can be… and let’s be clear, I’m talking about REAL modeling, not just looking shit hot to be some masturbation material for teenage boys and balding men! Actually, making a living from modeling, people paying you to do it… You know what I mean, right? Good. Let’s continue….

Last time, I introduced Anja Rubik, who is no less than amazing and such a HUGE name in the industry. Today, I present a model who is young, relatively new to the industry compared to Anja, but I think we haven’t seen the apex of this particular models career to date.

JULIA NOBIS

Julia Nobis is no doubt a rising star. She was only discovered in 2009.She has a unique look with a particular strong appearance. She’s known for playing guitar backstage before a show.

BEFORE AND AFTER BEING DISCOVERED WALKING HOME FROM SCHOOL

Julia started modeling locally, in Australia, at the age of 16.

Her first time on an international catwalks was during CALVIN KLEIN fall 2010 in New York and she exclusively walked only for them.

The next step on Julia’s modeling career was during the same season but this time on the runways of London Fashion Week. She opened the fall TOPSHOP in London and also closed the RICHARD NICOLL show. During her time in London she got invites to Milan and Paris and she ended up walking for PRADA, DOLCE & GABANA, LOUIS VUITTON, VALENTINO, MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA and MIU MIU Fall fashion shows and as you can imagine she became well known as one of the best newcomers into the fashion world to date.

Later on in 2010 she walked for her first couture show, VALENTINO HAUTE COUTURE in Paris.

2011 Spring fashion shows she opened and closed the POENZA SCHOULER fashion show and also walked for BURBERRY, ALEXANDER WANG, LOUIS VUITTON, CHANEL and BALENCIAGA runways. She also presented looks at the spring CHANEL and ELIE SAAB couture fashion shows.

During Spring 2012, FASHIONTV’s FIRST FACE COUNTDOWN featured Julia Nobis as number 3. She was beat by Anja Rubik and Amyeline Valade.

Currently, Julia has only been on one fashion magazine cover, Australian Vogue featured her in 2011 where she posed for the photographer Kai Z Feng.

She has appeared in a number of editorials for British and Italian Vogue, i-D, Dazed & Confused, Interview and W Magazine.

What I particulary love about this model is that she lives an alternative lifestyle, she has broken the international stereotype of MODEL! Julia is really into martial arts, some of her favourite bands are Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stoneage and Rage Against the Machine. She has the perfect mix in her book of “alternative” or should I say edgy shots combined with standard commerical and high fashion couture! The proof is in this models book, and I think she’s got it nailed. Don’t you??

So, models and models-in-training, are you inspired?

Kristin Stewart Looks Super Excited About Her New Job, oh… Maybe not!

Hi Pouters!

Kirsten Stewart attend the Balenciaga Ready-To-Wear Fall/Winter 2012 show as part of Paris Fashion Week on March 1, 2012 in Paris.

So did you hear about Kristin Stewart’s new job? She is the new face of Balenciaga perfume. She is going to be a real life model that is supposed to portray emotions in photographs…. it’s going to be so beautiful!

The news that she had landed this job, that I daresay others would have given a right tit for, came out in January and this is what she had to say about it:

“I love Balenciaga fashion because it is incredibly bold and forceful, yet feminine and sexy,” Kristen said in a statement. “I found there was a real creative freedom in this project. I feel blessed and really proud to be the face of this new fragrance.”

Last week she was in Paris for Fashion Week taking care of some business obligations and going to Fashion Shows and such, anyone should be blessed to be in such a position however she doesn’t look happy. Oh, wait, she never looks happy, does she? But really, dare I say she looks sullen? Gloomy? As though someone is busy pissing on her face? In serious pain? Oh, stop that Fi, be nice….

Why is she not happy that her job requires her to go to fashion shows? It sure beats filing… Thats for sure!

And I don’t want to pick on her too much, I can understand that when one is doing such exciting and incredible things, I can even get all caught up and be completely distracted that people can ask you “Are you having any fun at all?” or “Why do you look so miserable?”  so I do understand she cannot be smiling all the time, but surely as a part of being in the public eye so much she would of had some emotion coaching or training to not look so spaced out and uninterested all the time?

She is working. She is not supposed to look like she’s been smacked multiple times in the face by a dead fish. She is trying to make a good impression on the brand and that constant pout isn’t going to do her any favours, in my opinion anyway… It’s like I can hear Balenciaga’s public relation manager in the back of my mind yelling “MISS STEWART…. NO BONUS FOR YOU! YOU MAKE OUR BRAND LOOK LIKE MISERY PERSONIFIED” at the top of his lungs.

Have a look at the pictures and let me know what you think?
