Ralo’s Newly Launched : BB Cream

The darlings over at Ralo were kind enough to send me their new collection of BB creams to try out.

Firstly, Sandylashxx posted about BB cream and explained what is supposed to be over here and without copying what she said, Ralo have said that the benefits of their newly launched BB cream also include being a primer, concealer, foundation, moisturiser, to be light and non-greasy and to also protect from the sun with an added SPF. There are 4 different tones of the Ralo BB Cream, namely light, medium, dark and deep. If one of these tones do not suit your skin tone, they suggest to blend two shades together for a perfet match. My skin tone is “light” because I’m as pale as a ghost (thank you British genes AND winter) and it is probably still ever so slightly too dark for my skin tone but if you brush a touch of bronzer on your cheeks no one notices. Just blend it into your neck/jawline well and no one knows! BB_Cream_Light

This product can be used on its own but I am a firm believer in always using a moisturiser first before applying any makeup-like product as BB cream can be described as both a cream/primer/foundation supplement – so just do it – because I said so! 😉

I have been using this product on its own over moisturiser and it easily covers blemishes and any red marks or imperfections, as most of the BB creams on the market do. I find that if i do not proceed to put a powder over the BB cream the pigment has the staying power on the face like a tinted moisturiser (it can have no pigment in an hour or so after application) which is ideal for sometimes but if you want more coverage apply a thin layer of setting powder of your choice on top and it lasts the whole day. It is not oily however with my oily skin I find it makes my skin feel oily about late afternoon (if applied early morning) and I require a powder touch up.

Using the product as a primer has not been my favourite go-to use as I feel the product provides a medium coverage and I’ve been loving light-to-medium coverage on my face recently due to good behaved skin! It does work however as a primer but I would suggest using a light-to-medium coverage foundation on top of the BB cream as the coverage will be quite heavy – suitable for a glam night time look. reverse-1252519743_top-model

All in all, this product is actually quite impressive given that it only costs R69.50 and is available from the 29 nation-wide Ralo branches or at the Ralo Online Shop.

Just on a side note, I did contact Ralo and asked them about their Cruelty Free Status and they are 100% cruelty free which gives them even more brownie points!

PRODUCT REVIEW/ HOW I WORE IT

I finally gave into the hype at the beginning of the year and I bought my very own BB Cream! I have not really shut up about it since, and I feel as though I am a bit of BB cream product expert, one would think I am getting commission by the way I have been “selling” this product to people that ask me about it. My mother, aunt, cousin and best friend have all recently bought their own (not all the same brand) BB creams and they have also loved them. I have also been able to try them, so I will eventually review those for you too.

Sandylashxx wrote a post on WHAT IS BB CREAM… Check it out.

Because, I am a list person, I have broken down my Smashbox BB Cream experience to the following pros and cons:

yes

PROS

  • A natural finish
  • Fair selection of shades, actually pale enough for ghosts like me
  • Easy to blend
  • Portable
  • High SPF

noooot really

CONS

  • Price/ R390
  • No moisturising ingredients/ properties – NOT  moisturiser like other BB cream brands
  • Difficult to get all the product out the tube
  • Only 5 shades available – this is a huge drawback for potential customers but hopefully in time this is fixed….

This BB Cream is a good option for someone who has an even complexion, like myself, with barely any skin imperfections (I have a few, but I choose to ignore them). There is hardly any coverage to this BB cream. You would have to use a lot of product to get a sheer-medium coverage and using a lot of this expensive product in my opinion is a waste, however if you apply medium coverage foundation over it, you will acheive a sheer-medium coverage. The smoothing aspect of it, as it is a primer or pollyfiller as I like to explain to my clients that always ask what PRIMER is for, is definitely its best feature. The SPF for me, is also a huge deal. I am as pale as a ghost and needless to say, I am terrified of sun damage, automatically the higer the SPF for me, the better the product.

The application of the Smashbox BB Cream is MUCH easier if done with your fingers, it just blends easier. When attempting with a foundation brush, beauty blender, stipple brush or foundation sponge I feel that the product itself gets wasted (again, it’s not cheap and wasting is a deadly beauty sin especially at R390 a go…) and the cream doesn’t blend as easily as it does with the added heat of your fingers. I almost died when the Smashbox consultant used her fingers on my face, but I understand now that it just works better after trying many different applications myself.

I enjoy having the look of dewy skin,  because I suffer from an oily skin, I’m used to having loads of powder on my face and having a matte finish, this BB cream helps me have dewy skin for longer. You can happily add some powder initially (if you wish) or throughout the day as you normally would with a foundation.

My go-to makeup look for the last few weeks of summer of late has been as simple as cleanse, tone, moisturise, apply BB cream, dust a bit of bronzer on my face, Smashbox Jet Set Gel Liner to my upper eyelid, a bit of my Inglot brow gel and plenty of mascara for a fun, fresh, “no makeup” makeup look. Quick, effective, and it lasts for the whole day, even in the intense Southern hemisphere heat.

OVERALL RATING

8/10

WOULD I RECOMMEND IT?

Definitely! Try it TODAY!

Please bear in mind, this product may not be the same experience for you but chances are you will enjoy it all the same. Smashbox is available at selected Woolworths stores countrywide, so be sure to go and try it out and see for yourself.

Smashbox is also cruelty free so absolutely no fluffies are harmed in having your perfect flawless looking skin.

WHAT IS BB CREAM?

20121107-094215.jpg

A couple of months ago my sister told me about BB cream. However, I never blogged about it for some odd reason, as it is the most-talked-about-secret in the beauty industry today.

20121107-092727.jpg

What is BB Cream?

Christine Schrammek, German dermatologist, in the 1960’s developed in the 1980’s by Korean cosmetic companies.
It’s a blemish balm aka beauty balm. An all-in-one serum, primer, moisturizer, foundation and sun block.
Main market: South Korean and Japanese market 1985, but only came into the western market in 2012.

1) BB Cream was originally made to protect the skin of a patient after surgery by Dr Christine Schrammek.
2) BB cream was then introduced into the the eastern market in 1985, where healthy looking, porcelain skin is heavily prized and therefore was hailed as the “secret of Korean actresses” and heavily endorsed by Korean celebrities.
3) BB Creams come in different formulas, but due to the fact it was only available in the east, it was available in only a few hues. But now with it going global, more hues and tones are being introduced.
4) It can cover blemishes, acne, sun spots, and age spots due to its mineral and anti inflammatory effects.
5) It acts as an anti-wrinkle cream too. It contains hyaluronic acid and vitamin C and can therefore regenerate the skin with all its properties.
6) Some brands have BB creams available for men.

BB Cream can be worn alone as a tinted moisturizer, over serum and moisturizer as a regular foundation, and under powder, depending on the desired amount of coverage.

It’s basically known as a MIRACLE CREAM!!!

Here are some before and after pics

There are various brands of the famous BB Cream, which ever one you choose, make sure it’s CRUELTY FREE!!!!!!!

20121107-094221.jpg

The following 3 brands are CRUELTY FREE, SMASHBOX, THE BODY SHOP AND HAUT MINERALS.

I do feel that it being such a miracle cream many companies and cosmetic houses are coming out with their versions of the BB Cream, and might not be as effective as it was originally intended to be. So get a great quality, more expensive and also cruelty free brand.
