Ooookay, this is not my usual type of post but because my darling friend Heather from Femme Lifestyle nominated me for a Liebster Award and its physically impossible to not say no to Heather…. So, here you have it (although be it a bit a late)

liebster-awards

The questions

  • What is your favourite beauty product you cannot live without?

special cleansing gelmac-studio-fix-fluidThis changes quite often. I fall in and out of products very frequently. Can anyone say brand fidelity? My longest standing beauty products would have to my Dermalogica skin care products and my MAC Studio Sculpt Fluid foundation and MAC Mineralize powder. I have always used these products for years and always restock them even though I am fortunate to have a countless amounts of brands that have moved through my dressing table/ bathroom cabinets.

  • Who is your ultimate date?

dateThis gorgeous man and just FYI ladies, he’s been my date for the past 7 years.

  • If you could go anywhere in the world right now where would it be and why?

HomeHome… or anywhere that feels like it. FYI, its people that make places feel like home. I love being at home with the people I love. With all my creature comforts. Bliss!

  • What is the last thing you take off at night ?Business

You nosy buggar…. none of your business. In all honestly, I don’t really know, depends what method I use before bed. I like to mix it up. It would be between hair clips/jewellery/makeup.

  • What would you spend R5000.00 rand on, if you were given 1 minute to make a decision right now?holiday

A holiday with le boyfriend. Somewhere…

  • What is top of your bucket list?happy

To be happy and have those around me be happy BUT I don’t really believe in bucket lists… if you are interested you can read about my ramblings on that, here.

  • Name and shame your worst public blooper … as in ever!blooper

I’m honestly so tired I can’t really think of anything worse than this… and this is pretty mediocre. When I was 11 years old I was given a mobile phone from my mother and at the time I was the only one at school who had a phone.. You also were not supposed to take mobile phones to school. Anyway, we had a morning assembling every Wednesday morning and I had forgotten to switch it off and my mum was only calling to leave a message to tell me to have a good day but it rang and interrupted the assembly and in front of the whole school I had to hand it to the principal. At the time it was the worst thing in the world, now I wouldn’t care less… lol. Sooo… sorry that’s a bit boring!

  • What is your favourite comfort food?

comfort foodChocolate is my day-to-day comfort food and anything super tasty like curry, stew with dumplings or when I’m back home in the UK nothing beats a steak and kidney pudding!!

All the blogs I frequent have been doing the rounds with these awards so I’m not going to nominate anyone 🙂

Guest Contribution : Naturals Beauty Essential Collection Milk Cleanser

I love natural products and this was the first time that I used products from Naturals Beauty. I was sent a Milk cleanser  from their essentials collection.Naturals Beauty Essential Collection Milk Cleanser

Naturals Beauty is a Cape Town based family company that makes all natural products that are free from Petrochemicals, Parabens, Synthetic Fragrances and any harmful chemicals. The company was started when they realised the South African  market were seriously lacking natural beauty products that were free from nasties.

They aim to supply products that are affordable, have great quality and are totally natural.

It contains the following ingredients:

Polyphenols (Apple extract) – Has anti-ageing properties.

Omega Oils (Avocado oil) – Moisturise, Smooth, hydrate and refresh.

Sutherlandia and Cucumber – Keeps the skin healthy and radiant.

The milk cleanser has a creamy, thick consistency(it is not at all runny and watery like you would expect a milk cleanser to be, it is more like a lotion)  and smells wonderful. The scent is not too overpowering and you can smell it is naturally fragranced. It felt sheer and creamy when I applied it to my face. I gently massaged it into my skin and rinsed it. My skin was clean, refreshed, soft, smooth and any traces of my makeup was gone. I have been using it for two weeks now and it has not irritated my skin in any way, nor has it clogged my pores or left me with breakouts. This product actually calmed down my seriously over-stimulated skin in a very soft, yet effective way.

I love the fact that it is all natural and that it is so extremely gentle on my skin. I will definitely explore the Naturals beauty range more in future.

You can find these online at www.busweb.org and you pay only R80.00 for a 125ml bottle, which I think is great value considering there went so much time and love into this product. You can also follow Naturals Beauty on Twitter @Naturals_Beauty

Annoying Beauty Sales Tactics

Sales PitchWe are closer to Christmas now and this is going to be happening even more so I have a bit of a rant to share today but please bear with me because I believe that this needs to stop. Have you ever walked into a shopping centre and been swarmed by sales people that want to rub creams on your hands and buff your nails? Yeah, I think we all have and if you haven’t – you’re doing something right and please teach me how you have managed to get this far in life without this happening to you. I need to point out its not only skin/nail care as a few years back there was a makeup brand that claimed to be better than Bobbi Brown doing the same thing but they seem to have died a slow death. Anyway, I digress, each time, the sales pitch is similar, “Oh look at how beautiful *insert part of your body here* is, do you know that if you use *insert over priced item here* that your skin/body/hair will be even more beautiful?”.  The most amazing things about these sales pitches is how much the sales person genuinely “likes” you and can almost drop 75% off the price as long as you don’t tell anyone else. I kid you not, a product that normally retails for R2,100 and if you buy it today and promise to use it, you can buy for R450 – but don’t tell anyone about it. STOP RIGHT THERE. That intially upsets me. A price should be the price. When I buy good quality products I am not interesting in bartering with the sales person. My skin is worth more than flea market tactics of sales. I know about my skincare. I use quality products. When you mention this to them they look at you say “… but *insert brands name here that they are trying to sell* is 100% organic/nautual/made of diamonds and is better for your skin than *whatever good well known brand you just mentioned to them that you use and love*.”.

I am NOT sold. Secondly, I am NOT interested. The products retail online for half the price of the original price you tried to tell me.

TRYING SO HARDLet me tell you about what happened to me after doing grocery shopping the other day. The day before this I had gone for a second peel and my skin had flared up slightly and I had a lot of spots. Because of this, I was not wearing any makeup in order to try and calm my skin and to be honest I felt like a spotty teenager. I walked past a new store that has opened which is a hive activity for these specific annoying sales pitches and the guy dragged me in the store. Before speaking 3 words to me, he had already told me that my skin is allergic to alcohol. Sounds almost pyschic right? I mean, just looking at this spotty faced women he had to tell me something about my skin being sensitive and I am prone to breakouts – he could not of deduced that by just looking at my spotty face? Then proceeded to try and sell me their “at home peel”. He then looked at my nails and decided he needed to buff my middle finger (I presume so that once he was done I could let it shine at him loud and clear) and before lifting the buffer off my nail tried to calm my excitement (or boredom, but he called it excitement) and tell me I won’t believe what my nail will look like once he is finished. Yawn. After telling him many times that I have better products and I will not be using his after much resistance he let me  run away and I felt relieved to get away from this generic, almost rehearsed sales pitch.

Do not be fooled – its the same sales pitch I’ve heard from about 4 different brands over the years. I am not buying your overpriced shitty products (maybe that is a bit harsh but because you try so hard to sell them I assume they must be) so that you can get the commission. I have hoardes of quality products sitting in my office waiting for my love and attention and I really do not need your so-called quality with special ingredients from the Dead Sea/ Mars/Lost City of Atlantis in them. I have plenty of products which I know are better than yours and when I proceed to tell you that, you manage to drop your price even further. I really really really am not falling for it. I seriously hope the rest of the world isn’t.

Be careful about dodgy sales pitches, yes your eyes/skin/face/hair is beautiful, but don’t believe the other stories these guys and girls tell you. Never feel pressured into buying anything for your skin because chances are its just going to sit on a shelf in your bathroom. Rather buy an ice cream. Oh and in future Mr/Ms Salesperson I will be steering clear from you because you annoy me to no end because you don’t actually know what you’re talking about.

Beaucience for Men – Product Review

Good Morning Poutlings,

I trust that you are doing well, staying warm and taking vitamins 🙂

Today i’ll be doing a little product review on some skincare products for men.

Let me start off by informing you that I am in no shape or form affiliated with the brand or it’s products.

I received two products from this brand to review and of course I’m not a Man so I had my better half play guinea pig for me. He has been using the products for a week more or less now and being half ginger and only 3/4 human I could immediately see a difference. But before i get into that let me tell you a bit more about the brand.

Logo

“Beaucience (pronounced bo-ci-ons) is a proudly South African professional skincare brand specifically focusing on using natural formulations and organic ingredients where possible. With the combination of the unique peptide ingredients proteasyl (derived from pea plants) and essential oils, the results is a kind yet direct approach to ageing for men and woman. Beaucience has been designed for the more environmental conscious user making sure that our carbon footprint is low by using where possible South African ingredients, environmental friendly packaging, recyclable glass and bio-degradable plastic.

What makes Beacuience unique?

  • Essential oils are used to lightly fragrance the product
  • No parabens – we use natural preservatives
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Manufactured in a Soil Association certified manufacturing
  • Not tested on Animals
  • Trials with the products done in South Africa on human subjects over a period of 6-8 weeks
  • Proudly South African brand
  • An exclusive male and female anti-ageing and hydrating home care range is available
  • An amenities range is available
  • A professional range for beauty salons are available
  • A retail range is available from pharmacies and health stores

So as I mentioned before I had my ginger viking make use of the products for a little over a week (aftershave balm and face wash) With him being a ginger and having VERY pale skin he has very sensitive skin and always ends up with a shaving rash I also forgot to mention that he has a very heavy metal beard (yes this too is red :P) With it being winter at the moment and the air being extremely dry we all tend to suffer from dry skin and he specifically has a really dry patch or rather rash within his beard, firstly because it does not get all the moisture and “air” it needs.

After using the products for two days we immediately noticed a difference in his skin texture and its elasticity (I would just like to add that both of us have a regular skin care routine with other products) Having a oily skin he generally has excessive oiliness and a shine but after making use of the products not only did he’s shine appear less apparent but the oil content in his skin also got more under control which also helped ease on the forming of papules and pastules. The rash within his beard has also become less of an irritation and more bearable, dry patches formed due to his facial hair has since vanished and become more moisturized leaving his skin softer and “younger” all over.

I would definitely recommend Beaucience to all men especially those with facial hair after seeing what it’s done for my viking with his.
