Konjac 6 Wave Body Sponge

logo_2

A body spa treatment everyday? Yes please. That was my selling point when buying my latest purchase. The Konjac Sponge Co’s French Green Clay 6 Wave Body Sponge for Oily and Combination Skin. Confession time: I have not used a body sponge in years, in fact I can hardly remember when the last time was that I did! I have had a loofa in the shower which hardly got used, as I’d prefer to just use my body wash with my hands – quick, easy and fuss free but that being said, I have noticed that I am lacking a bit on exfoliating… I am not very good at it, don’t particularly enjoy the sensation and keeping up with it using body scrubs is something that I start out with good intentions but just never get round to doing it… not to mention its messy and requires a great deal of planning. So, after reading about the Konjac Sponge Co. and their philosophies I was intrigued and thought I should give it a try.

Konjac Body French Green Clay

The Konjac Sponge Co’s French Green Clay 6 Wave Body Sponge for Oily and Combination Skin

Essentially, The Konjac Sponge Co create a range of face and body sponges. The one I have been using (and loving) is the Konjac 6 Wave Body Sponge with French Green Clay (for Combination Skin) it a body sponge that doesn’t look very special. Taking it out of the packaging felt like somewhat of anticlimax, the dry sponge which when dry was not big and had a rough texture to it made me shudder at the thought of the sponge being rubbed against my skin. However once the Konjac sponge is completely wet the sponge feels like jelly and is incredibly smooth. The hidden powers of this much talked about sponge actually lie within the wet sponge. The Japanese have harnessed the benefits of the Konjac plant for centuries.

The Konjac body sponges have 6 ranges, one for every skin type (oily, problematic & spot prone skin; for combination skin; for dry and/or mature skin; for tired devitalised skin; for newborns; and one suitable for all skin types) and you’d be sure to find one to suit your specific skin needs and they can be used with or without soap to accelerate the skin cleansing process. The Konjac gently exfoliates, your skin feels incredibly soft and smooth once you are finished and not sensitve at all. The body sponges also assist with with preventing ingrown hairs which is an added bonus as those little buggars are sneaky and from my experience not easily avoided! If you shave, you can use the sponge to assist in lathering shaving foam/cream all while gently buffing the dead skin cells resulting in an even smoother shave.

From my first time using one in the shower, I made sure I massaged the sponge with a circular motion concentrating on all my delicate and problem areas of my skin along with my normal shower gel. I have not yet used the sponge entirely on its own as I prefer to use a body lotion but I will try this eventually! When I get out the shower I feel refreshed, and my skin feels conditioned, radiant and rejuvenated.

The bonus is that the sponge and its properties are 100% natural, and contains NO colouring or additives making it safe for everyone to use.

The downside – for a body sponge – especially for someone that hardly ever used a body sponge, it is not a cheap product. 27Pinkx sell this sponge for R230 and Beauty-Worx sell this sponge for R250 (where I got mine from) and just FYI both online shops ship for free. I ultimately believe my bank balance will forgive me because my skin feels revitalised, rejuvanted and FRESH.. thanks to my latest addition… Konjac! The sponge is not meant to last forever, but with proper care you can get up to 3 months out of the sponge by rinsing it properly by squeezing gently (never wringing) after use and leaving it to dry in an airy or warm dry place. Once the sponge has reached its life span, it is advisable to chuck it into your compost heap (if you have one) and let it go back to nature after serving you and your skin well.

Gloss Nail and Beauty

Gloss LogoSalons, truly are my absolute guilty pleasure and one of favourite places to visit. I was recently treated to the most divine pedicure on my recent trip to the “City of Gold” at the gorgeous Gloss Nail and Beauty Salon in the Birdhaven area in Johannesburg area. Upon arriving at the tranquil Gloss Nail and Beauty Salon, one cannot help but be mesmerised by the beauty of the boutique salon, as it simplistic but oh so fantastic. White and grey colours adorn the salon walls and floor which echoes the epitome of tranquillity. Gloss Nail and Beauty Gloss Nail and Beauty

The staff are welcoming and make sure you feel at home, not to mention really knowing their way around an amazing pedicure! The pedicure I was spoiled to made use of the most premium products, including the heavenly Liquid Yoga as part of the amazing concoction for my foot soak as well as numerous OPI products and the polish I had for my toes was an OPI polish from their Brazilian range. Further to their nail treatments, Gloss also offers a number of body and facial treatments – including the state of the art St Tropez spray booth. This tan is revolutionary as it eliminates the smell and fumes of fake tan so you leave with a sun kissed glow and no smell of a bottled tan in sight. The facial treatments make use of Dermalogica which one can never go wrong with.

You cannot help leave with a smile on your face at the end of your treatment and walk away with feeling pampered and so relaxed.

Thank you for the spoils Gloss, I will be sure to be back when I’m in the area.

If you’re in the area, be sure to book an appointment. Gloss Nail and Beauty is situated at Shop 3, Birdhaven Centre, 66 St. Andrews Road, Birdhaven or call them on (011) 447-9273 for more information.

Lady Laws

In honour of Woman’s Day tomorrow…. There are certain things, I believe in life that us girls need to learn in order to be acknowledged as a full on lady, in a true sense of the word. I am calling these the Lady Laws and I believe we need to learn and master these things and you will be on your way to being the best women you can be….

ComplimentTaking a compliment.

“You look absolutely amazing”. Yes, you do. You spent hours doing your hair and makeup (sometimes even weeks when you’ve been training your butt off at the gym) to look exactly how you look right now. Someone has acknowledged it. Embrace the compliement, think of it as a gift of kindess. Do not and I reapeat DO NOT throw a compliment away when one is given to you. Yes, you might be taken aback and flattered but a simple “thank you” with a smile is a great response. Do not point out another weakness in response to this as it ends up looking like you want your own pity party, and only girls have pity parties – not ladies. Be gracious about it though in the same regard and don’t get a big head about it.

Self DefenseHow to defend yourself.

We live in a scary world. Not just a scary country. There is a high chance that 1 in 4 women has a chance of experiencing a violent crime in her lifetime. Studies have shown that it is virtually always better to fight back in situations as women who have done in studies have always eneded up being less injured than those who didn’t. I’m not suggesting a black belt in karate but a good knowledge of how to defend yourself against a potentially nasty situation will only empower you in life.

Breast Cancer CheckLearning to check your body.

One in nine women will get breast cancer at some point in their lives and early diagnosis is vital for a good recovery. This means, it is ideal to check your own boobies once a month. They are your breasts and no one elses. Its really simple and can be done when you are in the bath or shower. You need to be aware of what is normal for you in look and feel, what changes to loook for and report any changes to your doctor without delay and ensure to go for a mamogram once year once you reach the age of 35 or earlier if you have concerns.

Walking AwayWalking Away From Bad Friendships and/or Relationships

There are so many people in the world that can be toxic for you, both platonically and romantically. If you ever feel as though you are trapped, undermined, anxious, in danger or unhappy around certain people, learn the art of letting them go from your life in order for you to be free. Surrounding yourself with a support group of compassionate loving family and friends will help you see yourself for exactly what you’re worth in life. Do not compromise that for anyone. Hair Styles to Turn Heads

TRESemme is a brand I know of but have never actually been one that I tend to go for just because we hadn’t really crossed paths or I was inundated with other hair care products and my hair routine is rather minimal so I always overlooked them. It was nothing personal, it was simply just I never had a need to look for styling products.

They recently sent me their TRESemme Extra Control Salon Finish Mousse which is to for a firm style to hold all day no matter the humidity. I am always hesitant of hair products but I will try anything once so I used this to create fabulous curls using my Babyliss MiraCurl Iron (review coming soon!).

Upon first using the mousse I cringed a bit as it is so sticky and I thought am I really going to run this through my clean hair? As my hair was towel dry it quickly absorbed into my hair and made general drying of my hair easier than normal. I then proceeded to split my hair to use my MiraCurl Iron to make these curls and this was then finished with a spritz of 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray and my hair lasted! Here is what it looked like (note – the next morning)…

TRESEMME

Yeah, its nothing wow but it is a wow for me, given the fact that I have such straight hair the simple fact that TRESemme can help me hold a curl is noteworthy, never mind the fact that it dropped slightly but there was still a legitimate beach-worthy curl the following day is unheard of in the land of my hair.

TRESemme’s celebrity hairstylist Matthew Monsoor recommends using the Extra Control Salon Finish Mousse before styling to freshly washed and towel dried hair to create loose romantic curls or if you are going with a style with lots of volume or even an eccentric style which give your hair added texture in order for the styling to be extra savvy.

For extra expert tips be sure to check out TRESemme’s website and follow them on Facebook.

The Extra Control Salon Finish Mousse retails for R76.99 and is available at most Clicks, Dischem and Medirite pharmacies nationwide.

Fragrance Review ~ Burberry Body perfume for Women

Hello pretty poutlings.

I haven’t posted in a while, but I’m back now and I do hope you are all doing just fine.

I just quickly want to tell you about

Burberry Body perfume for Women

This product sells for R845.00 for  85ml (other sizes available too)

I was quite surprised to have received a small bottle of this fragrance with my March Glossybox.

The fragrance is described as “evokes sensuality, femininity, and luxury. In this fragrance, an eclectic composition of fruity-chypre notes envelopes the body, creating a suggestion of effortless seduction.”

Well my dear poutlings, do I dare say that is indeed the best fitting description of it.

The fragrance opens with a fresh, green touch of absinthe and bright hints of peach and freesia. Elegance emerges in the heart, where cool notes of natural rose absolute and iris are set against the subtlety and warmth of sandalwood. In the base, woody cashmeran and creamy vanilla join the sensuality of amber and musk.

All in all this fragrance is a winner in my books and I do recommend you go get some for yourself, or guys, go get some for your lady!

Have a pouty perfect day!
