G-Star Raw Understands Denim Which Understands You

To be frank, G-Star Raw was a shop I have always found unapproachable until a few days ago when I got invited to their women’s event at the V&A Waterfront. I arrived rather sheepishly not knowing what to expect but after having a look around the amazing store, I actually thought to myself, this brand is so far from being unapproachable. If you have ever felt like that then I assure you, just walk in and your perception will change! They have something for everyone. Male and female. Every shape, cut and fit you could ever want from denims.

The event was hosted by local style connoisseurs – the createor and editor of Fashion Breed Aqeelah Harron Ally and artist/stylist at The Creative – Anelisa Mangcu. They shared their special relationship with the brand and how finding the perfect fit has affected their lives.

Since the brand launched a year before I was born, in 1989 they have taken denim to many heights, their most noteworthy achievement is that they made ‘luxury denim for the streets‘ by combining quality made denims with an edge, to make the best statement possible. Mixing this with washes and treatments, G Star Raw have created denims which are so much more than just another pair of denims. They are a further expression of you, your character, your lifestyle and your style. Their design is current but classic and a pair of denims will be an investment to your wardrobe, either dressing them up or down, you will feel equally as confident in the perfect fit for your shape.

Head of Women’s design for G-Star, Rebekka Bach explained,

“My team’s focus is to innovate with materials and fits that have a figure-enchancing effect. For example, the right placement of seams will determine whether your legs look skinnier and longer, and the right back pockets have a lifting effect.”

For the first time ever I might be vaguely excited to go shopping for a new pair of denims… as this is a task I have always seen as a chore! But G-Star Raw, be assured – I will be returning to the store in the new year to find MY perfect fit.

Thank you G-Star Raw, Aqeelah and Anelisa for having me at your event – I learnt so much and I am happy to have been formally introduced with G Star Raw denims.

BORN THIS WAY? Yes, Insecure to the Bone

Hiya Poutlings

I’m sure by now that most of you are aware that I’ve never ever bought into this women… For example, just two weeks ago she was banging on about the media hoo-ha of her weight gain, then she posted a series of photographs of her in her underwear (of doing sit-ups around the clock for a week) accompanied a “Body Revolution” campaign urging others to embrace their bodies. The mixed message of “embrace who you are” with “look I’m thin again” doesn’t agree with me… and I really do not give a shit if she DID suffer from bulimia and/or annorexia since she was a teenager, she has a social responsibility to fufil as her target market is a young generation with young minds, and I must be honest, I don’t believe the bullshit that comes out of her mouth anyway.

So she’s gone back to parading her bod as a matter of business, because frankly, her music is not her main business…. On Friday she went for lunch and Les Pirates, Juan Les Pins in the South of France in a bikini top/bra and denim shorts – so desperate for us to see that she’s toned up again.

I do not call this a Body Revolution, to me that is simply treating your body like a piece of meat. Oh yes, she likes to wear meat too…

I question the likes Yoko Ono and Oprah Winfrey praising Draga as a role model to misaligned youth. The message I’m receiving from Gaga is: Cover your body when it doesn’t meet your perception of society’s expection, then crash diet and compulsively exercise, and walk around half naked to prove that you’ve got a hot bod again.

As I’ve always believed, and it has now been proved yet again, she was in fact BORN THIS WAY, insecure!! She needs a warning label for the under 18s.

So anyway, Draga went back to her fail safe of early 2012 injecting the “Lady” back into her look for the launch of her ironical expensive hooker scent, Fame, at Harrods this weekend. Draga arrived to her appearance in a gold horse drawn carriage. Classy.

for this occassion, Lady Gaga got her RuPaul on with full length figure-hugging black dress, massive hair, winged Winehouse eyes and baroque horror claws… what the feck?

Eleganza!

 I rest my case…

Weekend Trend Crush: Denim

It seems like denim’s been around forever and you and I both know it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. And this weekend Denim is hot hot hot! From short denim skirts to your favourite Sissy Boy jeans, go all out this weekend.

Do’s:

– Wear your denim shirts with your denim skirts or jeans.

– Wear flats or kitten heels with your short denim skirt.

– Wear jeans of all colours if you have the confidence to pull it off.

– Wear Daisy Duke shorts and skinny jeans if you have the pins of it.

– Pair your jeans with a long top if you don’t like your thighs

Don’ts:

– Wear white jeans. I don’t care if it’s in fashion right now, it’s hideous and no person should be caught dead in those.

– Wear colour jeans if you’re Madonna’s age coz it’s not going to flatter you in the least.

– Wear a mini denim skirt with super high heels unless teamed with tights. You don’t want to look like you’ve come off the set of Pretty Woman.

Have a lovely weekend pouters!
