Marvellous, Mediocre & Meh at the 2014 Golden Globes

Although I might be a bit late with an update of the Golden Globes that were held this past weekend, I did laugh seeing Mnet broadcasting messages throughout the weekend to watch them live at 3am on MONDAY morning (late afternoon/evening in Beverley Hills)…. I can think of better things to do at a time like that, sleep is most definitely the best option and that is what I was doing.

I can’t bring myself to watch these award shows they are always so long winded but I do take a guilty pleasure in looking at the beautiful people, some wearing attire with a certain ‘it’ factor and others wearing things that look like they got dressed in the dark…

Marvellous

Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale Golden Globes

This lady literally radiates from the red carpet, shining bright in her dress which has a gorgeous silver bustier top and thigh skimming maxi skirt with a mermaid tail which was adorned with rhinestones and which resulted in the dress glowing in the lights of the carpet. Kate’s face was left fairly toned down which complimented a messy-but-perfect updo and her look was finished off with Jimmy Choo shoes and an Edie Parker clutch in black.

Taylor Swift Taylor Swift Golden Globes

I cannot believe it, but Taylor Swift looks amazing to me. Normally I don’t pay a second glance to her but she ticked all the boxes for the Golden Globes ceremony from  her toned down makeup with a bright red lip or her simple but striking Carolina Herrera dress, paired with Christian Louboutin shoes, Jimmy Choo clutch and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery I cannot fault her look. Roadkill Couture

The fashion industry is historically pretty fond of wearing dead animals because of its legacy as a luxury material, however, designers tend to obscure the origin of the fur – few people like being reminded of all the suffering and sinew that goes into a pricey fur coat.

eatton1Conceptional artist Jess Eaton wants to address the gap between dead animals that are socially acceptable to wear and those that are not – so she made a bunch of dresses out of straight-up roadkill.

eatton2Roadkill Couture comprises of garments created out of the pelts, feathers and bones of animals that have been killed and eaten as food, have accidentally killed on our roads, that have died of natural causes or been culled as pests.

Roadkill Couture is a celebration of the exquisite design of nature and is giving a second life to things of wonder and beauty when they would normally perish or simply be thrown away or discarded.

The animals used have been found by ourselves, donated by friends, family or pest control or bought at the butcher and we have processed each and every one ourselves.

Roadkill Couture has a very strong ethical code and aboslutely no animal was, or ever will be harmed or killed for the making of the collection.

Jess Eaton’s designs will be on display at London’s White Gallery this May.

While I appreciate that Jess Eaton is asking questions that need to be asked from within the fashion industry (Kate Moss wore one of her designs in Love), but I really cannot help but feel that these look a little too much like golden era Alexander McQueen.

eatton3Unfortunately, rather than a post about the origin of our so-called luxury materials, I’ve been tempted to having a conversation about intellectual property. So back to my point…I am not pro fur, faux, real or otherwise, HOWEVER I do believe that Jess Eaton may be onto something IF one would be possessed to wear another creature but my inital reaction to this was that, it is disturbing and tragic all at the same time.

what are your thoughts?

Hiya Poutlings!

With the likes of Pintrest and Facebook Pages sharing images from all over the world it is sometimes really hard to keep track of the things that are available to the average girl looking for a dress be it for a matric dance, a wedding, a cocktail party or a gala event.

I have been watching DZINE COUTURE for a while now, and all I can say is that every single item they have I absolutely LOVE. The elegance of the evening dresses, or the exquisite designer dresses.

Dakota Fanning Wears Chanel & Couture Cat Ears

In my mind, it is crazy that Dakota Fanning is only 18 years old; the girl has been around for what seems to be like forever. The Fannings obviously don’t waste any time getting into the family business, but what I like about Dakota and her sister Elle is that they both seem incredibly smart and well-adjusted for the amount of fame they have both experienced at such young ages. I don’t forsee any Lohan-ing either in their futures… oh and let’s not forget to mention that they are both FASHION WONDERKIDS who are lucky enough to be outfitted by some of the most revered designers out there.

It’s very rare that an average 18 year old can wear Chanel and look at once totally arresting and also completely age appropriate, but I suppose if anyone’s going to be able to pull it off, it’s Dakota.

Dakota has covered the December issue of InStyle UK to promote her role as creepy Jane in Breaking Dawn : Part 2, and the cover shot itself features a white jacquard Chanel dress. Dakota looks beautiful, youthful and extremely sweet here.

I happen to have mixed feelings about the other photo which pictures her in a Dolce & Gabanna corset, a Roberto Cavalli skirt (which OMG, is GORGEOUS!), and cat ears. I really think we could have done with the cat ears, but from what I understand about styling (not a whole lot) the stylists wanted her to look youthful as she is still only 18 years old even though she’s going semi-risque with the corset. The interview isn’t very interesting but does include a question about Kristen Stewart’s affair with Rupert Sanders and the resultant crimpled heart of Sparkles.

ON THE TWIHARD MELTDOWN

“Everyone thinks they have the right to, you know, publicise the struggles and sadness and heartbreak and all of that. It’s like, ‘Why do you think you are the authority to judge people’s experiences?’ “

WHY SHE HASN’T LOST IT YET

“Why have I been able to stay sane in a sometimes insane world? The pure love of what I do. Making movies.”

ON THE HOUNDDOG RAPE SCENE

“I’ve always been drawn to material that’s more kind of heavy, you know? Whether it be dark or dramatic or sometimes disturbing. And that can be hard to do when people think you’re still a kid.”

SHE’S ONLY HAD 1 BOYFRIEND AND IS CURRENTLY SINGLE

“You know, I’m not the kind of girl or person who really wants a boyfriend in my life. I’m also the kind of person… I’m very black and white in what I feel and I don’t wanna be with someone that I don’t foresee spending a long time with.”

I think I understand Dakota’s perspective on the situation because she and Kirsten are very good friends and have not only worked together on The Twilight Saga but also grew very close on the set of The Runaways. Dakota only sees the good in Kristin, and she want’s to defend her. However, I don’t really think the bulk of the criticism over the K-Stew affair with Rupert has anything to do with “judg[ing] people’s experiences” in general. Instead, Kristen’s caught a lot of heat (from the non-Twihards, anyway) for pretending to be above all of the Hollywood cliches, and then she got caught behaving like a Hollywood cliche. Or rather, she got banging her married director like a so-called “typical” starlet.

As for Dakota, I hope she carries on just as she’s been doing as a NYU studen who somehow manages to squeeze in a bit of time for films on occassion. I predict she will be just fine.
