When it comes to using and loving foundations, I tend to be overly critical. I basically have one type that I love to use, and very seldom try something new or switch it up.
So when these little pots came along, my excitement levels did not rise as it usually would. But then I decided that to be totally fair, I would have to give it a try and see what happens.
It is housed in a small glass pot, with a coloured screw on lid that indicates the shade of the product inside. Upon opening it, it looks divine. So lovely, that I did not want to ruin the lovely inside by using it. The product itself is odourless and the consistency is a mousse, gel like whipped cream. It has a lovely texture.
It is easy to apply and blend. The coverage of this product is quite good and you need only to apply and blend once, because it is matte, whipped and sheer it might look caked if you apply more than one coat.
Longevity of this product is also a surprise. I did not expect it to last as long, but it does. And when I use a primer, it stays perfectly put the whole day. Another added benefit is the fact that it is matte. My skin looks velvety and shine free the whole day. No more shiny patches halfway through the day.
I am happy to report that I have substituted my regular heavy foundation with this one daily. It’s lightness, the matte finish and the fact that it has not clogged my pores once is what won me over. My first tub of this is almost empty, and I have already purchased another one. And for only R63-50 and the quality you are receiving for that price, I am converted.
My latest go-to every day mascara is… Essence Maximum Volume Mascara!
It lasts the whole day… I’ve been applying about 3 strokes to each eye for the past few months and it really builds so well on your lashes, giving lots of volume and lift to your eyes, its a semi-wet consistency but dries quickly and it doesn’t flake off your eyes during the day. It is a super magic mascara for anyone looking for added volume but I think the trick is down to the wand. Its a plastic rubbery mascara wand.
a full days wear of the Essence Maximum Volume mascara, after experience 37 degrees Celsius heat. The mascara stayed put the whole day!
The wand helps to separate the lashes individually and because of this it doesn’t result in unsightly clumped up lashes while building some length. I’ve been using this mascara for the past 4 months (I know you are not supposed to do this – but it is still fine), the consistency has not changed and the formula has not gone dry which is a huge bonus.
One eye with mascara, the other waiting to be applied. Perfect for everyday volume!
A real steal for anyone lashes as the retail price is only R53.95 and is available from selected pharmacies.

Essence decided I need to release my inner Leopard… As a fond lover of all things leopard print I duly obliged. A couple of weeks ago they contacted me to partake in a campaign they are doing for Halloween. Yes, Halloween. I am not the biggest fan or supporter of Halloween, but hey, this involved Essence makeup and leopard print. I hardly needed much more convincing than that. The brief was simple, they chose a fun Halloween inspired makeup look and I recreate it using specially selected products for the job.

Now, this is a beautiful intricate detailed look including wonderful highlighting and contouring (check how the leopard snout pops). Have a look and see how I attempted to recreate this look using everyday Essence makeup products. Here is my step-by-step picture guide. Showing the products before application.
Step-by-step LEOPARD look by Flea
This is my completed look, although it does not represent the inspiration image entirely, I created this look with fewer products and all of these products can be reused for every day purposes – how awesome!
THANK YOU ESSENCE (AND COSMETIX) FOR CHOOSING ME TO PARTAKE IN THIS CUTE, FUN CAMPAIGN FOR HALLOWEEN AND SPONSORING SUCH AWESOME PRIZES FOR OUR READERS!

As I previously stated Essence have set their standards high regards to Essence as their I Love Extreme mascara. Trying this one after finishing my tube of Lash Mania Reloaded was exciting but I was worried it wouldn’t live up to my high Essence expectations – its only their fault they set the standard so high with their award winning mascara! 😉
The huge bonus is that this is waterproof. Waterproof mascara often makes me wonder why all mascaras are not waterproof. The brush is very thick fibre. It seperates the lashes to some extent and coats them very well creating lots of volume. I think it made my eyes appear open and it kept the curl to my lashes which is one of the many things I look for in a mascara! The formula lasts all day, with no smudging and I find it ideal to wear 2 coats and if I am going out in the evening I like to add another coat to my 2 coats I’ve worn all day and I find it just makes your eyes more ready for the evening ahead.
Get Big Lashes is easily washed away when using my Dermalogica PreCleanse and it isn’t incredibly hard to clean off your eyes which I’ve found with other mascaras that are waterproof.
I find this rivals Essence’s I Love Extreme but I don’t believe it can replace it!
It retails for R44.50 and is available at Clicks, Dischem and Medirite pharmacies.
My experience with Essence mascaras is slowly getting more and more in depth and to date my favourite Essence mascara would have to be big pink tube, award winning Essence I Love Extreme in comparison the Essence Lash Mania Reloaded False Lash Mascara does not quite live up to my love of that one but it is by no means bad.
The brush and bristles are very flexible with 6 seperate bristles which seperate and comb lashes individually very well, however if you have curled your lashes before applying the mascara then the wand happens to straighten your lashes out and making the curling process rather redundant. The formula of mascara is of medium wetness (its not super wet nor is it incredibly dry) and I think this is why this happens, it does undoubtedly increase the length of lashes and it builds well upon the second coat applied. I wouldn’t recommend a third coat as this is when lashes start to comb together into one.
I do like to thickness and length it provided to my lashes but I would still rather buy the I Love Extreme over this Lash Mania as my lashes are naturally very straight and I like to have a bit of extra curl to open my eyes up. With everyone having different lashes, just like we all have different hair types, this is not the mascara for me in terms of what I look for, but if you have very curly lashes naturally and are looking for added length and good separation then I would say that this is the mascara for you.
Essence is available at Clicks, Dischem and Medirite pharmacies and this mascara retails for R53.95.
