#COLORFUL EYE MAKEUP OK FOR DAY TIME :)

Me Again!

Have you ever looked at your colorful eyeshadows and thought you don’t use them as often as you’d like? Many times we buy colorful pigments as it ‘catches our eye’ but hardly ever find an opportunity or an occasion to use them.

Yes, sometimes a colorful eye liner is all you need to bring out that ‘POP’ effect we all want, but the thought of using more than one color may seem terribly overwhelming. Is it? In fact, using more than one color on the eyes, if done correctly, can look quite subtle.

Here is my version of a colorful eye makeup totally okay for a day look. Using INGLOT pigments in the colors of yellow, green, blue and purple may seem like quite a lot on one makeup plate, but let the pics speak for themselves. Hope you enjoy ūüôā

#PURPLE #SMOKEY EYES

20130722-142944.jpg

Hey There Pouters

Just thought I’d show you how I do a purple smokey makeup look with pics.

By no means is this a tutorial, I’m just showing you how I roll with makeup. Lol

20130722-142315.jpg

20130722-142322.jpg
This is harsh, but it all gets blended. Don’t worry. Blending is a makeup MUST. I also applied a lighter purple after this stage on the centre of my eyelids to bring the look all together.

20130722-142641.jpg

20130722-142722.jpg
As you can see, eye on the left is blended with al, three colors and the one on the right isn’t.

20130722-142931.jpg

20130722-142939.jpg
I stood in the light once I was done, so that you can see it is not as ‘hard’, or as much as it looks like once it’s all came together. But it’s all about the blending. Don’t forget to add blush and/or bronzers to shape your face.

Can you tell I love wearing lots of makeup? ūüėČ

ANA PAULA ROZA EYE MAKEUP HOW-TO’S

20120913-071359.jpg

Good morning hotties.

I’m sure you have noticed these pics on tumblr and pinterest before and shared them as much as I have, but didn’t have a clue as to who the heck she was. From what I can see on her watermarks with these pictures I’ve found, she is called Ana Paula Roza she clearly kicks total ass regarding her makeup. Many of her pics on the net don’t have her watermark, therefore I couldn’t find out more about her before.

I love her mini pic tutorials because it’s all about using the exact same makeup application technique but with different colors. Shows you how color can give you and all together different look.

There doesn’t seem to be much sound on her YouTube link, however you see how stunningly gorgeous this woman is. Here are the links to the two YouTube videos she has:¬†¬†¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†Make Up Victoria Secrets ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†

That’s about as much as I know for now, going to dig more into this makeup artist for sure. Xx

EVENING AND BRIDAL MAKEUP – CLASS 6

20120806-071941.jpg

20120806-071619.jpg

EVENING AND BRIDAL MAKEUP CLASS 6

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EVENING AND BRIDAL MAKEUP?

Evening is your chance to sparkle by adding more drama to your face and to that of your clients. Low flattering light allows you to keep on brighter colors without appearing overdone. Shimmering and  frost-like shades appropriate for day wear looks subtle and beautiful by candle glow. At night, you can let your imagination run to more glamorous effects and looks. The definition of the eyes and the lips is of most importance in evening makeup.

WHAT WILL WE COVER IN THIS CLASS?

  • Evening color advice and application
  • Adapting day makeup into evening makeup
  • Certain lighting
  • Do’s and Don’ts for evening makeup
  • Bridal makeup introduction
  • Consultation topics
  • Bridal makeup do’s and dont’s

EVENING COLOR ADVICE AND APPLICATION

Green eye shadow and orange lipstick is NOT recommended for the evening. These colors look ruddy and may disappear in the artificial light. The makeup artist can line the eyes more dramatically. These are textbook rules, and moi, Sandy seldom believe in it, because my eyes are always dramatically made up for day time, but these¬†guidelines¬†are for the ‘new’ artist and for a non-artist. Some people may think they can apply makeup, but are in need of some textbook direction. Black, blues, violets can be used now with more drama to enhance those eyes at night.

Apply the eyeshadow according to the shape of your clients eyes using more frosted shades and deeper colors. Add a sparkly kind of shadow onto the center of the eyelid in line with the pupil. Try silvers or pearly pinks for cooler seasons and gold or frosty peaches for the warmer seasons. Once you start getting really good with makeup applications, you’ll know how to apply any colors, regardless of which season it may be. Blend the gleaming eye shadow into the edges of the darker shade. Apply blusher as usual, with or without a corrective technique. Evening makeup, the artist may add extra glow onto the clients cheeks if desired. Don’t forget to work on the d√©collet√©. Add blusher here and there if the client is wearing a low cut top, because this will bring everything from the face to the outfit together.

ADAPTING DAY MAKEUP TO EVENING MAKEUP

  • Foundation can be lighter or darker that the normal skin tone and can be applied a little more heavily if required to create the flawless finish.
  • Face powder should be used to highlight the face and doesn’t have to be used all over the face.
  • Contour cosmetics can be used with more definition, particularly under the cheekbones to create an enhanced bone structure.
  • Eyeshadow can be very bright and shimmers/glitters can be applied using several shades, blended together for a maximum effect.
  • Use more eyeliner and kohl to the inner lines of the eye to compliment the eyeshadow. Color liners can be used too.
  • You can also use colored mascaras, just remember that black mascara always wins, and its best to use colored mascara on the lower lashes only.
  • False lashes may be applied!! Go for it! Remember that DUO eyelash glue is the best glue on the market for falsies.
  • Go for those silver, gold frosted lipsticks. This may create a pouting effect or you can use a highlighter to paint a thin line above the cupids bow to emphasize the shape.
  • Finish off with gloss.

CERTAIN LIGHTING

When applying evening makeup, a clear white light should be used and bear in mind the effects that different lighting will have on the look of the makeup.

There are 4 different types of lighting which affects makeup in different ways.

WHITE LIGHT (NATURAL LIGHT) – Contains all the color of the rainbow. When white light falls on an object some colors are absorbed and others reflected. It’s the reflected colors that we see. If makeup is done in the daylight, use subtle colors as less is more during the day.

FLUORESCENT LIGHT – Found in office spaces or schools. This contains excess of blue and green, which have a cooling effect on the makeup: the red in the face doesn’t show up and the face can look drained of color. Reds and yellows should be avoided, as these will not show up, blues will. Also don’t apply dark colors, the fluorescent light intensifies these.

INCADESCENT LIGHT – Lights produces by filament lamps (normal yellow type bulbs you find). This produces an excess of red and yellow light, which creates a warm flattering effect. Almost all colors can be used with this lighting, except that brown and purples may appear darker than what they are. Choose a lighter foundation than normal to reflect the light, and use frosted highlighting products where possible for the same reason.

PINK LIGHT – Found in certain restaurants with a definite color vision. May make makeup look warmer. So, the deeper pink shades of blusher may look red. This type of lighting will make green colors look dull, sparkle or tints are the most flattering and romantic is this type of lighting.

There are two more types of lighting we should be aware of:

ROSE LIGHT – Contains softer tone of red and pink light, flattering to all skin tones and will enhance any makeup.

BLUE LIGHT – Definite tone of blue in a white basic light. Turns any makeup gray. It’s very hard on makeup and makes blusher or shaders look way deeper than what they are. Lighter colors should be used.

DO’S AND DON’TS

DO:

  • Use browns with gold tint tones
  • Use shimmers
  • Highlight the eyes and lips even the bust line (d√©collet√©)
  • Glitter may be used
  • Use false lashes

DON’TS

  • Use green, reds or orange on eyes or lips
  • Use less makeup, the point of evening makeup is to be more dramatic

BRIDAL MAKEUP

A bride is probably one of the most stressed women on earth when it’s her wedding day, and as a makeup artist, we have to keep her confident in knowing what we are doing to make her look great on her important day. It’s advisable to do a practice run on a bride to be. Don’t ever do first time makeup on the wedding day! Remember that many brides in different cultures don’t marry in white, so be prepared for the more exotic kind of makeup application. A brides age also plays a role. She can be 16 and go all the ways to 90 years young. Shocking but true. Most importantly, it’s¬†¬†not how YOU want it, its how SHE wants it. However, ask your bride to give you ideas, and if her ideas look crap and you know it, apply makeup as she wants it. Take a photo and then do it your way. That way she can compare shots and see that blue eyes, pink lips and purple cheeks ain’t wedding pic friendly.

CONSULTATION TOPICS:

This is a way of getting to know your client better. This is a preliminary consultation and therefore is essential. You’ll need to find out :

A) Date and time of the wedding.

B) Detail of the wedding dress and flowers.

C) Hair styles and headdress.

D) The clients experience with makeup.

BRIDAL MAKEUP DO’S AND DON’TS (Unless clients requests instructs otherwise)

DO:

  • The makeup as natural as possible unless otherwise instructed by the client
  • Take type of photography into consideration.
  • Make use of blusher, because brides appear washed out, due to nerves.
  • Conceal.
  • Blend blend and blend!
  • Foundation should match skin tone perfectly.
  • Cover ears with foundation.

DON’TS

  • Create dark demarcated lines on the eyes and lip areas.
  • Use black as eyeliner, dark brown is a better option.
  • Over powder the face.
  • Use glitter.
  • Use glossy foundation.
  • Use strong pearly colors.
  • Use foundation with a high SPF. This reflects with the flash of the camera which may give your bride a mask look on the photos.

I will be posting on another post elaborating on bridal makeup. Don’t miss out!

EYEBROW SHAPES, TIPS, and EYEBROW SHAPING

EYEBROWS

Your eyebrows shape your face!  Your face without makeup is a blank canvas, with makeup its an art piece, and your brows (and of course your hair) is what frames the artwork!

There are a few things to keep in mind when you want to shape your brows.  The color, the thickness, the arch.

If you’re a model, know this;¬† most MUA’s and photographers¬† cast models for high-end fashion shoots according to their eyebrows.

You will never have a successful sexy, glamorous or pin-up effect fi your brows look like furry friends.

However, OVER PLUCKED eyebrows are even worse than too much!

Overplucked eyebrows make you look older.

Many of these MUA’s on Facebook and YouTube tweeze off all their brows to have a ‘bigger’ canvas as to apply more shadow and do more ‘art’, unfortunately, it looks horrible.

My eyebrows were recently over waxed during a facial session and I cannot wait for every hair to grow back!  When I apply makeup, I make them thicker than what they are.

TYPES OF EYEBROWS

OVER PLUCKED:  Over tweezed to the thinnest line.  Almost thinner than a wrinkle.

You have just aged yourself by a decade!

COMMAS:¬† Unattractive, the inner has a ‘dot-like’ effect which immediately thins out instead of gradually thinning out as it would naturally.

You have just made yourself look like a clown.

HIGH ARCHES:¬† Too high gives you the effect of looking shocked without being shocked at all.¬† A lot of women with ‘sleepy’ eyes do this thinking they giving their eyes a wider and more awake effect, but alas, not so.

You have just made yourself look like the “McDonalds” M.

THE DOWNHILL:  They droop down…………..

You have just made yourself look permanently sad.

THE TRIANGLE:¬† This happens when your ‘arch’ is happening far too soon.¬† Get it?¬† Your arch should happen on the outer 1/3 of your brow.¬† Not right smack in the middle.

You have just distorted your eyes and given yourself a very harsh appearance.

HOW TO FIX YOUR EYEBROWS

Look in the mirror.  Cover your brows with your index fingers and then take them away, if:

Your face look better with your fingers, have them shaped by a pro.  Key word, PRO!

HOW TO GET THE PERFECT BROWS?

Everyone has different  noses, so the imaginary line  must follow the natural line of the outer bridge of your nose.  This line is where the first of your brow hairs should start.

From that bridge line, draw a line that passes along the outer rim of your pupil and upwards.¬† This is where the highest point of your arch will be happening.¬† Remember the arch should not be in the centre of the brow, but should rather be off centered.¬† This will ensure you have a ‘sexy’ look.

And now, draw a line tot the outer corner of your eye.  This is where your brow should end.

BROW COLORING

Brow bleaching should not be done at home and only be done in a salon!¬† Should only be done by an experienced hairdresser or beautician!¬† Since you want a chemical so close to your eye, I suggest you have a pro do it.¬† Why would you want to lighten your brows?¬† Well, it will alleviate that harsh look you may have.¬† Remember if you had very dark hair, and now you have blonde, softening the color of your brows may help you look ‘normal’!¬† If the two colors from you hair and brows are too different, you may end up looking odd.¬† Same applies if it’s the other way around.

EYEBROW TIPS

1)  Brows must suit your facial shape and therefore shape it with those imaginary nose lines.

2)  TRIM any extra long hairs instead of just tweezing them.

3)  Always check your eyebrows from the sides.  Use two mirrors to view the profile of your brows.

4)  Suit your brow pencil to your brow color and not your hair color.

5)  If you lighten your hair on your head, lighten your brows.  Same applies when you darken your hair.

6)  Use mascaras to quickly change the colors of your brows as a quick fix.

7)¬† Don’t wax your brows a day before an important event.¬† As a layer of skin get ripped off (that’s putting it not so mildly haha) and prevents makeup from sticking to it.

8)  Thicker brows gives you a younger look, but remember to trim it at the very least.

9)¬† Brush them.¬† If they’re neat, they’ll look hot.

10)  Go check in the mirror now! What do you see?

‚ô†

There are many posts about ‘the wrong’ or ‘WTF’ eyebrows, but I hope this one helps you in shaping your own or those of your clients. ¬†Research eyebrows, see whats considered good and bad. ¬†Get an eye for it before you practice on someone. ¬†And remember to pluck little by little. ¬†Check and if need be, pluck again. ¬†Stand back and look at your face as a whole, if you’re too close to the mirror you won’t see the full effect.
