Half Drag

Leland Bobbé, a New York based photographer has compiled a series of photographs in an on going project called “Half Drag… A Different Kind of Beauty

“With this series my intention is to capture both the male and the alter ego female side of these subjects in one image in one image in order to explore the cross over between males and females and to break down the physical barriers that separate them.”

It makes you appreciate the true artists that these Drag Queen’s are. I know some senior makeup artists and I think the makeup skills would quite easily be rivalled of these talented individuals.

Visit Leland Bobbe’s website for more spectacular images!

Gold Digging with Dior

DIOR SS14 (1)Christian Dior have brought sparkly makeup back once again, for Spring 2014 they have left the rhinestones at home and gone all out on the town with gold guilding.DIOR SS14 (2)

Everything from eyebrows, top and bottom of the lids broken up with a dash of pastel eyeliner.  DIOR SS14 (3)

It’s bold. DIOR SS14 (4)

I wouldn’t recommend recreating these for every day wear, but you have to admit it is pretty captivating. DIOR SS14 (5)

Eyebrows sins

Well hello pretty pouters

Today I will be discussing something that makeup artists hold very dear (well, next to our lovely brushes and shadows) …

Ye, it’s those 2 strips of random hair above your eyes. Now why do we have them? Because we look pretty with them and they protect our eyes from perspiration, (that’s sweat) and to provide shade (ok probably if you have like weird bushes of brows)

Now ladies, unless you are trying to start some random new fashion statement, having ugly bushy brows is just not on. Unless you’re Jack Nicholson)  Also, having ugly shaped brows, is also not flattering.

Now this what your brows should NOT look like:

Now, from the pictures above, What the heck were they thinking? For the first one, I just can’t tell you in how many ways how wrong her brows are, they start in totally the wrong place, they go higher up than her brain fluid probably is but at least she got an arch in there. As for the 2nd girl, shame man, she must’ve shaved off her unibrow, missed it a lot and decided to just draw it back with a permanent marker, and lets not even talk about the lipstick! As for number 3, brow sinner, what the heck is up with that wide space between her brows?  and they don’t even start at the same point.

Seriously girls, if you don’t know how to shape those bushes, go visit a good salon that can either pluck, wax or thread it for you. It really doesn’t matter what method you choose, some find tweezing to be very therapeutic, but I personally prefer waxing, it’s quick and your hair grows back finer and becomes less over time.

Now, if you don’t want to go to a salon, you can try to do it yourself, there are so many tutorials on the internet nowadays, you have absolutely no excuse!

So, not only does shaped brows make you look extra pretty, it also shapes your face and if you have them shaped it opens up your eye and allows more space for you to apply more of the lovely eyeshadow that you love.

Look Great Without Makeup This Summer

Good morning Poutlings and may you all have a fabulous Friday!

Do you long to feel the wind blowing on your naked face, I mean completely naked face? Sometimes, we all need a break from makeup yet some of us feel incredibly exposed without it however your skin will thank you for a good breather. Sandylashxx will completely disagree with my post, but MissMegsJane last post about ladies at the gym working on their fitness with lots of makeup made me think that there are many times when having a full face of makeup is not needed, such as  summer being right on our doorsteps, there is no point in lying by the pool or beach with a face full of makeup especially if you love the water and want to take a splash and enjoy your swimming!  With the long Christmas holidays on our doorstep, days relaxing at home are not always for a full face of makeup. Embrace it, be natural.

Plus, it saves time when you elect not to wear makeup. But there are some guidlines to follow to make sure that you look great without your makeup:

Practice Religious Skin Care

If you’re going to forgo makeup, you need to take the best possible care of your skin. Twice daily is preferable with a mild cleanser. Followed by a light spritz of toner all over your face, in the morning followed by a day time moisturiser and at night a night cream, do this in the morning before you wake up and before you go to sleep, your skin will thank you in the long run if you use this as your daily routine.

Exfoliate Your Skin at Least 3 Times a Week

This is one of the best kept secrets for beautiful skin – exfoliation. Use a gentle cream exfoliant on your skin and massage your face in circular motions for at least a minute before washing off. This will remove the dead skin cells and increase circulation to your face which will give your skin an amazing glow that is better than blush! Then follow by a spritz of toner and the relevant moisturiser.  For soft, glowing skin.

Getting Plenty of Beauty Sleep

If you are going to go natural, its important to get the adequate sleep needed for beautiful skin. Seven to eight hours of sleep should do your skin wonders! Tired skin looks sallow and can leave bags under the eyes or dark circles around the eyes. If you don’t get enough sleep but still want to go natural, try putting an ice pack on each eye for at least 5 minutes to reduce the “puffy eye” look.

Drink Lots of Water

Your skin looks amazing when you are well hydrated and you should make drinking at least 2 litres of water a day part of your normal beauty routine to maintain your skin hydration, keeping you looking fresh and healthy. Avoid drinking a lot of caffeine as it can act as a duiretic to further dehydrate your skin.

Keep Your Brows and Lashes in Tip Top Shape!

Make sure your brows are neatly groomed and that there are distracting stray hairs out of place and for the sake of my health, please do not dye them blonde… 😉

Make sure your eyelashes are kept clean of any residual makeup to avoid them breaking from mascara from the day before, use a gentle eye makeup remover on them if you couldn’t get it off the night before, and if you have straight lashes invest in an eyelash curler to open those peepers up!

Keep Your Lips Moisturised

Get addicted to your lip ice. Its a good addiction, not as expensive as contraband and more rewarding than suffering from dry, chapped lips. Applying moisture to them to keep them smooth and soft to the touch. Even a touch of clear lip gloss can give your face a natural glow, but be careful if your going to be lying in the sun, or doing any outdoor activity as gloss and hair like to stick together and it doesn’t look glamourous as all.

Any woman, can look good without makeup if she practices her skin care as a general lifestyle habit daily, looking after your skin can make your makeup look even better in the long run.

Let me know if you’ll doing the natural thing this summer? I’m sure I will be over Christmas… especially in our Mother City,  CAPE TOWN, if it happens to be anywhere near as hot as it was last year, makeup just melted off your face!

Bleached Blonde Eyebrows

Hi there Pouting Beautifuls…

Lately I’ve noticed a  new trend going around on runways, in music videos and in photoshoots, that I just can’t seem to decide if I like or not and it’s the…

Bleached Blonde Eyebrow Look

teamed with dramatic eye makeup and/or (sometimes) bold, red lipstick.

Now, maybe it’s just because this is new to me that I’m not too sure of it, but it is definitely very different. It makes it look as if you have no eyebrows and since I noticed that Whoopy Goldberg didn’t have eyebrows (what? You never noticed? Google it…), I am a bit weary of this look.

Blonde eyebrows do:

  • Wear them with dramatic eye makeup OR red lipstick (if you can pull red lipstick off), but not both, unless you’re doing it for a photoshoot.
  • Go to a professional and get it done if your brows are very dark. You don’t want orange brows, do you?
  • Go for it if your hair is light brown or blonde and have pale-ish skin, unless you have dark hair and want that eerie look.

 Blonde eyebrows don’t:

  • Do this with pale makeup, you’ll look very washed out.
  • If you have very tanned or dark skin, it will look unnatural.

So pouters, if you do decide to do this, just do it tastefully!

Happy Tye-ing!

Peace and love! xoxox
