No Sun? No Problem!

The sun is probably the worst ingredient for anti-ageing around, however the wonderful team at Caribbean tan have you sorted – come rain or shine!

Although, I’m a real pale thing, it doesn’t hurt on a warm winter day when you want to wear a skirt or show a little bit of skin to not be see-through! Being see-through scares people who think you might be dead.

No matter the weather, one always looks better with a healthy sun-kissed glow and an affordable glow is attainable by us all in just a few steps!

  1. exfoliate your skin until its smooth, like a baby’s bottom! – they have you sorted with their Cinnamon & Coconut Skin Smoothing Exfoliator
  2. apply your preferred tan
  3. keep your skin happy and hydrated
  4. use SPF religiously to protect your skin from the harmful UVA and UVB rays from the sun

Get Your Glow on This Summer with Caribbean Tan

Rumour has it when my legs came out of the trousers I’ve been wearing over the very cold winter in Cape Town and saw sunshine for the first time in a while the sun decided to run away for a while, only to return last week.

This predicament can easily be avoided, with no added harm to your skin from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays which have been so commercialised that people are either really petrified of them (like me, who generally avoids the sun) – good excuse, I’m British! OR have just given up on trying to protect themselves from the dangers and have a very meh approach to skincare and the sun – like TANNING MOM!

A few weeks ago at Cindy Nell’s Pamper Party at Langaro in Camps Bay, I was formally introduced to Caribbean Tan. I have heard about the wonders of Caribbean Tan from a few of the ladies in my family who are crazy about false tans, and have been for years. As a general rule, I’ve avoided them. I’m okay with being pale. In fact, I prefer it to being sunburnt and/or orange.

Caribbean Tan though on the other hand, does not burn you or make you orange. All it does is give the skin a good healthy glow, which lasts for up to two weeks. I was recommended due to my dislike of previous fake tan applications to try the Tanning Mousse which is a Gradual Colour in shade A, which retails at Dischem and selected pharmacies for R84.95, that the mousse will be an easier application with limited streaking.

I won’t bother explaining the process of applying it, as its as simple as exfoliating, getting clean, putting some cream on and voila, a tan develops over time.

Really not rocket science. Really simple.

They told the truth – it worked! I managed to attend a family function wearing a dress last weekend and I didn’t blind the people walking by.

I am not sure if my cynical approach to fake tans in general have been converted but for special functions and when I sometimes feel like a little bit more of colour is needed to wash away my pale limbs and body, I will definitely turn to Caribbean Tan over any over brand I’ve tried previously.

Caribean Tan

Within the Caribbean Tan Range, they have various other products which may excite the Tanning lovers interests and they retail as follows:

Tan in a Can – Instant/Gradual Colour – R84.95

Tanning Spritzer – Instant Colour – R84.95

Tanning Mousse – Gradual Colour (The one I have and spoke about above) – R84.95

Wipes – R44.96

They have Pre-Tan products of Body Exfolia for R44.95

and Tan Extender products of Moisturising Shimmer Cream for R44.95 and Intense Body Butter for R44.95.

I would certainly buy this product again, especially as a head start before a beach holiday… it really is the best tan I’ve used, ever.

Fade to Pale : Victoria Beckham

Hi Poutlings!

Vicky Beckham, my favourite Spice Girl has evolved quite a bit since her days as Posh. In fact, her skin colour is practically unrecognizable now… in a very good way!!

50 shades of Victoria Beckham... ok, not quite, just a few! lol

50 shades of Victoria Beckham… ok, not quite, just a few! lol

Of course, her past signature looks like the angular bob and over-sprayed tanned skin, weren’t exactly career ruining for her exceptional style, but what I like is that she looks like a normal human now. And she agrees! She told Hello! Magazine:

“I don’t wear fake tan anymore,. Sometimes I’ve been turned orange but that’s definitely a look from my past. Being overly tanned is very aging and, dare I say it, a bit footballer’s wife. Embrace your natural colour!”

I totally agree, and I’m ahead of her on this, I’m pale, I’m ok with it. I’m actually deathly afraid of the sun… I believe sun damage is not something to be taken lightly, and I really don’t like the orange look. By the way, I love her tongue in cheek comment about the footballer’s wife look! I suppose it’s ok to say that, when you are in fact, a footballers wife?

What are your thoughts?

Christina’s Leg is Diiiiiirty….

Pouters!

In remembrance of the late singer, four times Grammy winner Etta James who died last week our dirrrrty friend belted it out for her on stage but made an oooopsie… or did she?

This is what happened when Christina sang her song “At Last” in front of hundereds who gathered to remember Etta James.

It’s apparently fake tan, whatever it is… all I can say is

EEWWWWWW!

Although her shoes are gorgeous! 😉

Matric Dance / Prom DO’s & DON’Ts

You obviously want to look your best as it’s a night you’re going to have in your mom’s scrapbook album forever, so take some advice from us and make sure you cover the do’s and stay away from the don’ts all night at your Matric Dance!

Do: Bring a Hot Date

Or if he isn’t particularly good-looking, just make sure his teeth are white, his hair is gelled and his suit is clean, because there’s no worse accessory than a gross date! He will taint your photos (and the memory) of the night forever! *insert psycho music here*

Don’t: Forget to Shave your legs

You’ll be dancing all night, so make sure your pins are in tip-top shape! You don’t want to look like a tarantula on your big night, now do you?

Do: Wear a flattering dress

If you’re a pear shaped girl, don’t do a mermaid dress. If you’re top-heavy, don’t show too much cleavage. If you’re skinny, don’t wear something shapeless. If you’re bigger, don’t wear too many frills. Yes, it’s a hassle to get the right dress, but if you dress for your body type you will look and feel amazing. Tip: Look for a celebrity with a similar body type (and don’t kid yourself, don’t choose someone obviously the wrong shape) and see how they dress on the red carpet and copy the look.

Don’t: Cake on the makeup

I’ve seen where girls look as pale as ghosts or just plain dirty in their Matric Dance photos. Go easy on the foundation and powder; don’t overdo it because nobody is going to think you look sexy if you look like a geisha!

Do: Check Youtube for hairstyle ideas

Whether you’re going for something funky or elegant, check Youtube for the best looks. You’re already spending so much money (whether it be yours or your parents’) on the dance and the dress, so why waste on a hairdresser if there are so many options on the internet? Although, if you know you have two left hands, rather get a friend or your older sister to help you with this.

Don’t: Wear too much fake tan

You’ll embarass your date and your friends if you end up looking like an Oompa Loompa or Oros on your Matric Dance, so go easy on the fake tan and remember to wash your hands after applying!

Do: Work on your pose

OK, so now you’ve got the dress, the hot date, the pretty makeup, the great hair and the nice tan and you pose like a pornstar. No. This won’t work at all. Stand in front of the mirror and practice your elegant pose. Work out which pose it right for you. Again, look to celebrities for inspiration. You may feel like a real twit at first, but you’ll be happy you did it when you look like princess in your photographs! And besides, nobody wants to see you squeeze your girls in your mamma’s scrapbook…
