Life Comparasions

Life 01We all know how dangerous it is to wander down the paths of comparing yourself to others because we often compare the wrong things. Social media only helps to increase this unfortunate unwanted comparison. Learning to realise first and foremost that it is impossible to determine who is living a more valuable life by comparing clothes, cars, homes, salaries, beauty or Twitter and Instagram followers. Net worth, numbers and material items essentially mean nothing in the grand scheme of life and because its social media remember there are always 100 different angles to view what you are interpreting as the something to be envious of.

Life only gets more strange with age. The rate at which people mature around you from being a child through being a so-called adult is always at different rates. We all grow into a unique version of our own selves. Moral values you’re grown up to learn from your parents and those around you are always different due to backgrounds, circumstances and willpower. People have different views, different visions and different beliefs and you often will find yourself comparing your situation to theirs one too many times. This is dangerous, not only because you’re life is ultimately the only one that matters but this can give you a grass is greener feeling on their side of the fence.

This also does not entitle anyone to brag about what they have, how they got it or how hard they work and compare themselves with an added advantage. Comparing apples and oranges will show a distinctive amount of similarities but also a huge amount of differences. You might both be fruit but having come from different trees, growing under different climates and sprouting at different times is amazing. Celebrate the diversity, don’t brag about it. We are all striving for something. Some don’t know what that is and others have it already figured out already. There is no need to consistently put yourself out there expressing how well you are doing or what amazing stuff you have. There is simply nothing more annoying, nor another way to make everything you brag about questionable. Live for the moment, not for the excessive likes, double taps on Instagram or retweets because ultimately that in itself is rather pathetic.Life 03

Be a good, kind, compassionate human. Be there for your friends when they need to chin up and a gentle kick forward but if they are sad or having a bad day sometimes we all need that. If they are stuck comparing themselves to you or vice versa be sure to stop it immediately. Help each other out. Be your own people. Life 02

Once you start to compare yourself with others it will never end…. you ultimately are the only person that really matters and focussing your time and energy on someone else is putting you and your life development on hold. Focus on the right person, appreciate what you have right now, and focus on how you are going to achieve your goals in the future. At the end of the day, your purpose in life is not to be better than anyone else. It is not to outshine the majority and shine like the sun. The purpose of life is to live, enjoy and be happy with yourself and the only way to do this is to be best possible version of yourself that you can possibly be.

If you are battling with limiting how much you compare yourself with others, try these tips:

  • Limit your time spent on social networking sites which promote the feelings of under-worth rather than self-worth.
  • Remind yourself daily that every person including yourself is unique (no matter how cliché that might sound)
  • Compare yourself to yourself and only yourself. Try to improve it by setting goals and visualising how you will feel once those goals are achieved.
  • Distract yourself by doing things that you like when you find yourself comparing yourself to others.
  • Write down your thoughts.
  • Get with the programme, how significant is your problem compared to even more difficult life situations that people worldwide are suffering with today.
  • If all else fails, take your bestie – go for a coffee, let them give you a hug and then proceed to let them to kick your ass to get your thoughts back on track.

Caroline Woziacki Imitates Serena Williams

Hiya Poutlings!

Today, in things that one should not do when playing a live televised tennis match: stuff your front and back to appear that you have big boobs and a big backside.

After doing this, the Danish tennis player Caroline Woziacki has been accused of racism after she did this on the court the day before yesterday, apparently mimicking her fellow women’s player tennis Serena Williams. Caroline Wozniacki was playing a game in Sao Paolo, Brazil against Anna Kournikova. She played for a minute or two dressed like that and the audience went ballistic cheering before she pulled the towels out. You can watch the video of this

Some people see this as just a goofy joke, especially since Caroline and Serena are supposedly friends – how good of friends, who knows, who cares, whatever.

Jay Busbee from Yahoo Sports put it perfectly :

“This is an era where no jokes goes unscrutinized, and no humour apparently exists without sinister subtext … An apology may be forthcoming, but it shouldn’t be.”

Others are saying it was a racist imitation because it was highlighting the extreme sexualization of women of colour’s bodies.

Now, unfortunately, we live in a world where something can be racist regardless of the person’s intent – this chick may be friends with Selena Williams and may not have intended to do something racist. But that doesn’t mean what she did was not racist. On the other hand, my inital reaction to Caroline Wozniacki’s behaviour was that it was first and foremost unprofessional. She’s in the middle of playing a tennis match, for !#@% sakes. Then, when I read she was imitating Serena Williams, my next thought that mocking the size of her boobs and backside was a bit cruel on live television…

I am all for good natured rivalry among friends, making fun of someone’s sexualized body parts during a televised match is a bit much.

Once I read upon the controversy, I never thought the act was “racist”, however, the “sinister subtext” that Jay Busbee referred to – was not obvious to me at first glance. I would also imagine that people defending Caroline’s actions are saying its not a big deal.

Ultimately, however, I feel it’s not my final call as a white women to decide whether or not this is racist. Stupid – yes. Racist – up for debate. It’s a time to listen what people who are directly affected are saying : if people of colour are saying this mimicry was racist and problematic then we should listen.

…do you have any thoughts on this?

Dakota Fanning Wears Chanel & Couture Cat Ears

In my mind, it is crazy that Dakota Fanning is only 18 years old; the girl has been around for what seems to be like forever. The Fannings obviously don’t waste any time getting into the family business, but what I like about Dakota and her sister Elle is that they both seem incredibly smart and well-adjusted for the amount of fame they have both experienced at such young ages. I don’t forsee any Lohan-ing either in their futures… oh and let’s not forget to mention that they are both FASHION WONDERKIDS who are lucky enough to be outfitted by some of the most revered designers out there.

It’s very rare that an average 18 year old can wear Chanel and look at once totally arresting and also completely age appropriate, but I suppose if anyone’s going to be able to pull it off, it’s Dakota.

Dakota has covered the December issue of InStyle UK to promote her role as creepy Jane in Breaking Dawn : Part 2, and the cover shot itself features a white jacquard Chanel dress. Dakota looks beautiful, youthful and extremely sweet here.

I happen to have mixed feelings about the other photo which pictures her in a Dolce & Gabanna corset, a Roberto Cavalli skirt (which OMG, is GORGEOUS!), and cat ears. I really think we could have done with the cat ears, but from what I understand about styling (not a whole lot) the stylists wanted her to look youthful as she is still only 18 years old even though she’s going semi-risque with the corset. The interview isn’t very interesting but does include a question about Kristen Stewart’s affair with Rupert Sanders and the resultant crimpled heart of Sparkles.

“Everyone thinks they have the right to, you know, publicise the struggles and sadness and heartbreak and all of that. It’s like, ‘Why do you think you are the authority to judge people’s experiences?’ “

“Why have I been able to stay sane in a sometimes insane world? The pure love of what I do. Making movies.”

“I’ve always been drawn to material that’s more kind of heavy, you know? Whether it be dark or dramatic or sometimes disturbing. And that can be hard to do when people think you’re still a kid.”

“You know, I’m not the kind of girl or person who really wants a boyfriend in my life. I’m also the kind of person… I’m very black and white in what I feel and I don’t wanna be with someone that I don’t foresee spending a long time with.”

I think I understand Dakota’s perspective on the situation because she and Kirsten are very good friends and have not only worked together on The Twilight Saga but also grew very close on the set of The Runaways. Dakota only sees the good in Kristin, and she want’s to defend her. However, I don’t really think the bulk of the criticism over the K-Stew affair with Rupert has anything to do with “judg[ing] people’s experiences” in general. Instead, Kristen’s caught a lot of heat (from the non-Twihards, anyway) for pretending to be above all of the Hollywood cliches, and then she got caught behaving like a Hollywood cliche. Or rather, she got banging her married director like a so-called “typical” starlet.

As for Dakota, I hope she carries on just as she’s been doing as a NYU studen who somehow manages to squeeze in a bit of time for films on occassion. I predict she will be just fine.

90’s Crushes… Now!

Hiya Poutlings! 🙂

Remember the 90’s? Yeah, I was a 90’s baby, made in the 80’s and born in the 90’s. Weren’t those the days? Remember girls, the teenagers on TV that you used to want to grow up and be just like and the ones that the boys all had secretive crushes on, even though they all weren’t particulary beautiful at the time we still loved them and wanted to be them anyway. They were to an extent, our role models, people who had a vague influence on who we are today and who we wanted to be back in the day! Does anyone come to mind when reading what I just wrote? Well, here are a few of those 90’s crushes and what they look like today!!

Lets go on a trip down memory lane…

Topanga, or now known as Danielle Fishel from Boy Meets World. Why did we love her? She was brainy, hot and the boys loved her because she was into goofy guys and made them all want a girlfriend before they had even thought about that before!

She’s still a pretty girl, *cough*, I mean woman. And luckily for her, that chest is distracting me from her horrible pants, and I’m a girl, so I’m sure the men won’t notice them at all! 😉 She apparently also is/did host a show on E!

Joey, or now as she is known Mrs Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes. Back before Tom locked her in the basement, she was the lovable Joey on Dawsons Creek. True story: I thought she was Dawson since I’d never watched the show… What? Dawson could be a girls name too!!

Katie Holmes, when photographed correctly, is more beautiful than she ever was back in day. I suppose Tom is one lucky man!

Sarah Michelle Gellar, or as we used to know her as, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was the ultimate 90s bad ass girl, she drove a stake through many of the little boys hearts.

She could still drive a stake through many men’s hearts, as her pictorial in Maxim shows!

Rachel, or as she’s known today, Jennifer Aniston. I think everyone loved her… She was one of those characters.

After her split with Brad Pitt, its a shame that Jennifer is pretty much just  tabloid and romantic comedy fodder. But she’s rocking quite the body as shown by her above GQ pictorial. You go girl.

Winnie Cooper now known as Danica McKeller from the Wonder Years (for the South Africans it was an American series which ran for 6 seasons and I was introduced to it in the UK), I have no doubt in my mind this little girl was any little boys first crush despite her utter lack of attractiveness for most of the Wonder Years.

GOD DAMN… If you weren’t their crush back then you certainly will be so now! Want to know something scary, she is also somewhat of a genius – she has written textbooks on maths and lectured the subject to university students.

Clarissa, or Melissa Joan Hart, damn, I used to have the ultimate girl crush on her and her silly little tv show where she always used to hang on our her bed, and lets not go into Sabrina the Teenage Witch!

Well, its obvious she still loves hanging out on beds… wakaka

Screw Jessica Biel, Lucy Camden, or Beverly Mitchell from 7th Heaven was the sh1t when I was growing up, although I cannot remember why…

She’s cute looking, and definately looks better mature although she still looks a bit like a deer in the headlights.

Kelly Kapowski, or as she is known now as Tiffani Amber Theissen from Saved by the Bell was HAWT  back in the day.

Oh, what a suprise! HAWTNESS, grows up to be HAWT!
