Wilde on Breastfeeding

Glamour has recently shot a pictorial of Olivia Wilde and has come under some scrutiny about it the one shot. To be precise, this shot where Olivia is pictured all dolled up and breastfeeding her son at a fancy restaurant.

Here is what Olivia had to say about it.

“Being shot with Otis is so perfect because any portrait of me right now isn’t complete without my identity as a mother being a part of that. Breast-feeding is the most natural thing. I don’t know, now it feels like Otis should always be on my breast. It felt like we were capturing that multifaceted woman we’ve been discussing—that we know we can be. You can be someone who is at once maternal and professional and sexy and self-possessed. [But] I mean, I certainly don’t really look like that when I’m [typically] breast-feeding. And there’s usually a diaper involved.”

Personally, breastfeeding is not offensive to me, although this might be a bit TMI? I probably speak from a very biased perspective because I do not have children. I can only imagine the struggle of trying to keep breastfeeding while on the go could be difficult and depending on how reserved you are it could be even more of a challenge. I view breastfeeding simply as an essential just as needing to go to the loo when you’re out and about is essential too. You can do it, but its not acceptable to do it for the world to see, as some people are uncomfortable with it, unless like case in point you are actually making a point that is for everyone to see. Please don’t mistake my thoughts to be that I expect people to run and hide away their bodies but there are certain places firstly which are more safer and secondly some more acceptable than others when wanting to breastfeed your child…

I am possibly going to get a lot of attack on my view but that is the way that I see it and I welcome your comments, thoughts and experience on the matter as after all the more diverse we are the more interesting things can get.

Guest Contribution : Picking the Perfect Pearls for your Dress

Whilst weddings are a momentous and joyous occasion, one that you have probably envisaged since you were a little girl, the run-up can be stressful, time-consuming, even all-consuming!  Whilst there is enormous amounts of preparations, organisation, guest politics, who to invite, who’s vegetarian? coeliac? gluten-free? – you get the point! – Relieve some of the pressure with these stunning jewels which are guaranteed to pull your wedding attire together and ensure your day goes smoothly (well in the looks department at least!)

Yes it is a given that the wedding dress plays a huge factor in the bride’s overall look but coming in a close second is her choice of jewellery as this can either make or break a look.  Whilst there is a whole treasure trove of choice, one of the most popular of all jewels are still pearls.

Pearls have retained their status as the go-to wedding jewel as they have a perennial elegance that never looks dated.  Pearls can be worn with modern dresses or more traditional designs.  These lustrous, highly versatile beauties are one of the few gemstones which appeal to all generations.

Most brides are interested in achieving a highly sophisticated look which oozes understated glamour and this is easily achievable with pearl jewellery.

TraditionalTraditional

If you are opting for a traditional dress with a fitted and bodice with a flowing, ball gown-esque skirt then a classic pearl necklace is the perfect option to create harmony throughout your look and pull everything together.  Choose a bridal pearl necklace from Winterson made with the finest cultured saltwater Akoya pearls for a look that exudes luxury, glamour and ultimately sophistication.  These pearls, traditionally cultured in Japan, should be round, with a sharp lustre and pinky white colour. Sitting just below the collarbone, the length of this necklace will bring the focus to your face whilst creating a demure and ethereal aura around you.

 ModernModern

If you have decided on a more modern, slinky and ‘bodycon’ dress, then I would suggest a simple pearl pendant.  A luxurious white South Sea pearl and diamond pendant necklace will perfectly balance out your wedding look but will not detract from the dress.  With a silky lustre which radiates beauty, there is little wonder why pearls are the wedding jewel of choice.  This exquisite piece (featured below) also features a dazzling diamond set above the pearl to add to the luxury of this pendant.  This piece will not only see through your wedding day in style, but will also become a firm favourite in your jewellery wardrobe.

BohemianBohemian

For the romantic, slightly quirky, bohemian bride, choose freshwater coin pearls.  These type of pearls have a distinctive, slightly irregular and jaunty, baroque shape.  Each pearl is unique thus creating a carefree, laidback look rather than a more traditional, polished style.  If this is the look you are trying to pull off then this White Freshwater Coin Pearl Bracelet would look stunning on the wrist of any lace-clad, billowy-sleeved bride.

NSFW: Plastic Surgery Themed Editorial In Noi.se Magazine

[NB: NSFW stands for NOT SAFE FOR WORK.  I’m serious; close the browser if you do not want to get fired. Thank you. This public service announcement is brought to you from Pout Perfection’s stay employed innitiative]

Hiya Poutlings!plastic-surgery1

Of all the self-referential ways the fashion world comments on itself, plastic surgery-themed editorials are simply one of the best. That is because most efforts at self-reference, in all contexts fashion or not, come off with a hint of self-indulgent and a dash of un-self-critical, while it’s pretty f*cking impossible for a decent plastic surgery themed editorial to do that.

plastic-surgery2-324x400plastic-surgery3-321x400

The imagery of plastic surgey is so grotesque that it makes you think “Oh, that’s AWFUL!” even if you still want to look like the model therein. These photos, for lack of a better word, “expose” the price of beauty, if you can call it that.

plastic-surgery4-321x400plastic-surgery5-322x400

It also just happens to appeal to my inner Gothic sensibilities (I was a terrible Goth, I could never shut up) because once you grown up listening to Marilyn Manson you will never not enjoy a photo that combines the glamorous with the macabre.

Roll up, roll up! Come and marvel at our illegal clinic. Blunt sharps and filthy gloves. The surgeon (butcher?) chainsmokes throughout the operation. But that’s ok, cause so does the patient. Come up to the lab and see what’s on the slab! I see you shiver with anticipation?…

Additionally, it echoes a Suicidegirls photoset published during the site’s heyday, which was humorous and compelling enough to still be stuck in my mind, seven years later. Related, that makes me feel old.

Top Models as Prostitutes

Heyaaaa ❤

Fashion loves anything that straddles the very fine line between what is provocative and what is tasteless, and of course that happens to include the romanticising the blackened underbelly of society.

louis vuitton fall 2013 short film

If you do not believe me, please consider the “heroin chic” phenomenon of the mid-nineties or consider the unsettling existence of a wikiHow article called “How to be Heroin Chic”. So, I guess that fashion had no other option than to think “What’s gritty and ‘underground’ that we can glamourize with models and fancy clothes? Hmmm…. prostitution would be puuuuuurfect!”

kate moss "heroin chic"

Louis Vuitton’s latest short film, in collaboration with Katie Grand of Love magazine features some of the most recent TOP catwalkers Cara Delevingne, Edie Campbell, Saskia de Braw, Isabeli Fontana, Lily McMenamy, Georgia Jagger and Magdelena Frackowiak as Parisian reines de la nuit drifting about the city streets in the brand’s romantic lingerie inspired Fall ’13 collection. Their path eventually elads to the actual show, where they take the runway in the same clothing.

I don’t know what they are trying to say with this vague storyline – clearly they are trying to say something – but the video is pretty, and the music is nice, and hey, prostitutes!

It’s not too explicit, but there are a few boobs, a few arses, so be wary should you work at a church, or something.

Embrace the Tennis Bracelet

Hi Poutlings!

serena williams 150709

You don’t have to be Serena Williams in order to rock a tennis bracelet. However, there is something you can learn from her. Even when dressed in her sport wear she makes sure to add a piece of glamour to ensemble with her signature tennis bracelet. This serves well to remind us that although she is sporty and athletic, she is still a lady with elegant taste. With the popularity of diamond tennis bracelets increasing, so have the choices.

classic tennis bracelet

Whenever you hear the word “classic” you immediately think simple and sophisticated, and that is an accurate depiction of a classic four prong tennis bracelet. With a slender row of beautiful diamonds sitting along your wrist, this bracelet is perfect for anyone who likes a mixture of dazzling and delicate. Along with its undeniable beauty, this piece of jewellery is also lightweight and flexible making it the right choice for “soccer mom” or CEO.

designer tennis bracelet

A designer piece is for the one who wants to make a bold statement. The one who thinks that simple is just a little too simple. Designer tennis bracelets have an added charm with their elaborate craftsmanship, taking tennis bracelets to a new level with designs like wavy, twirl, or S-shaped links, to name a few. Like Serena has shown, a tennis bracelet can be worn on and off the court; and with a wide variety of styles to choose from you can make it your own just as she did.

And – DID YOU KNOW: Tennis bracelets were once called eternity bracelets? Quite a beautiful sentiment isn’t it? Why not pair up your eternity bracelet with a diamond eternity ring? This ring is excellent for celebrating a wedding, anniversary, or just your love. With an option of a single or double row diamonds, you can decide just how extravagant you want it. So go ahead, make someone’s day and set their heart on fire!
