Aqua Bod-Hee
enlighten the fashion spirit

Not all online stores are created equal and every now and then a real gem pops up that really stands out from the crowd. Finding such online stores which are both local and unique are really few and far between, so it is noteworthy when one is found. Aqua Bod-Hee is the epitome of online store originality and a bit of free fashion spirit. Showcasing a lot of LOVE, LIGHT & HAPPY THINGS. It is evident that style runs deep through the site and all labels that Aqua Bod-Hee stock have a very bohemian feel with a touch of retro but nothing that doesn’t say anything but real class and exclusivity.

Aqua Bod-Hee’s intention is to spread the revolutionary love of fashion, individuality, Spirit & consciousness. All of pieces sold on this site are hand-made with love and sourced with care. Each item has a unique story behind it which takes one back on a journey of past eras that have contributed to the world we live in today.

Founded by the owner of Aqua Bod-Hee, Nicci Fleishman whose vision has come to life with the launch of online store which was to create the perfect place which stocks to the items which can be hard to find for individuals who wish to echo individuality in what they wear; for those who possess an inner gypsy, hipster, hippy and/or vintage lover who is wanting to express themselves by what they wear. Individual pieces with meaning, rather than your stock standard mass produced pieces that are turned out of factories at a rate of knots. To embody your spirit on the outside, to express yourself, to be free. Aqua Bod-Hee is stocking everything from gypsy shoes to head bands, and some gorgeous jewellery, there is no shortage of go-to custom hand-made items to top up your closet and outfit no matter the occasion. Aqua Bod-Hee is stocking up-and-coming brands and here area a few examples of what to expect on the store….

Not All Sun Protection is Created Equal

Walking down any isle in any pharmacy or supermarket that contains millions of different brightly coloured bottles which all carry a fairly hefty price tag can be somewhat of a daunting prospect. They all claim that they are the best and will stop the harmful suns rays from burning your skin or worse, your precious children’s skin and at the end of the day – which claims can you trust? They all serve the purpose of sun protection but what do you need to look for when choosing which sun cream will be right for you and/or your families needs?

The question you need to ask yourself is simple…. do you want a product which works for an hour or so and needs to be reapplied. So in other words, there is no falling asleep on the beach or extensive periods of swimming while enjoying your summer holiday and constantly needs to be interrupted by reapply sunscreen or do you want a product that you apply once and carry on doing your thing without having to excessively worry whether or not that you are getting burnt to a crisp? I know which one I prefer. SOLRX

Last year, I was introduced to Solrx, a product that to me stood out miles beyond the rest. Every single sunscreen in the range proudly doesn’t contain any of the following products:

What’s NOT in Solrx Sunscreen products
Don’t You Want the Best for yourself?

  • All of our sunscreens are Titanium Free which, in some instances, have been known to be absorbed into the body through the skin.

  • Free of Nano-Particles which have been known to enter the body through your skin. (Nano-Particles are 1 billionth of something)

  • No Petrolatums or Mineral Oils. These have been known to dry out your skin.

  • 100% PABA & PARABEN FREE & have NO PABA DERIVATIVES.

  • Oil Free, Water or Aloe Based, Non-Greasy Light Lotions that go on Clear.

  • Unscented and Non-Irritating to the skin. (Tested by AMA Laboratories, NY)

  • NO Animal Testing

  • Make-up can go over our products and Does Not sweat into eyes.

This is a huge bonus, but to me the complete selling point on the Solrx range is that once applied to the skin it is guaranteed to continue protecting the skin for 8 hours after before the need to reapply. Even if 8 hours is spent in the water or excessive sweating has occurred. Water proof and Sweat Proof…. Sounds good right? Well, this is due to the specialised Solrx formulas that results in virtually NO-WASH OFF of the product and that the product maintains 97 – 100% strength for the 8 hour duration.

WaterBlock

The product I have been using (and loving) is the Extended Water Block SPF 44, 120ml sells for R225.00 or 60ml for R149.50. This sounds pricy, but you apply it once a day and wham bam you’re done – so its worth the investment as the product lasts for ages. Don’t settle. Also, other sunscreens are expensive too and you’ll use up to triple the amount in getting the full days protection.

My favourite’s packaging has had a face lift and will be available online only in 1 litre and 500ml.

The best news is that these products are all cruelty free and will really work in protecting your skin this summer or any season really. To view their full range, check it out here. Bonus, if you order online now and before 26 September 2014 you will get 10% off your order. Otherwise have a look at their range at your nearest Cape Union Mart to be converted to the Solrx way of sun protection!

Ralo’s Newly Launched : BB Cream

The darlings over at Ralo were kind enough to send me their new collection of BB creams to try out.

Firstly, Sandylashxx posted about BB cream and explained what is supposed to be over here and without copying what she said, Ralo have said that the benefits of their newly launched BB cream also include being a primer, concealer, foundation, moisturiser, to be light and non-greasy and to also protect from the sun with an added SPF. BB_Cream_Comp_01

There are 4 different tones of the Ralo BB Cream, namely light, medium, dark and deep. If one of these tones do not suit your skin tone, they suggest to blend two shades together for a perfet match. My skin tone is “light” because I’m as pale as a ghost (thank you British genes AND winter) and it is probably still ever so slightly too dark for my skin tone but if you brush a touch of bronzer on your cheeks no one notices. Just blend it into your neck/jawline well and no one knows! BB_Cream_Light

This product can be used on its own but I am a firm believer in always using a moisturiser first before applying any makeup-like product as BB cream can be described as both a cream/primer/foundation supplement – so just do it – because I said so! 😉

I have been using this product on its own over moisturiser and it easily covers blemishes and any red marks or imperfections, as most of the BB creams on the market do. I find that if i do not proceed to put a powder over the BB cream the pigment has the staying power on the face like a tinted moisturiser (it can have no pigment in an hour or so after application) which is ideal for sometimes but if you want more coverage apply a thin layer of setting powder of your choice on top and it lasts the whole day. It is not oily however with my oily skin I find it makes my skin feel oily about late afternoon (if applied early morning) and I require a powder touch up.

Using the product as a primer has not been my favourite go-to use as I feel the product provides a medium coverage and I’ve been loving light-to-medium coverage on my face recently due to good behaved skin! It does work however as a primer but I would suggest using a light-to-medium coverage foundation on top of the BB cream as the coverage will be quite heavy – suitable for a glam night time look. reverse-1252519743_top-model

All in all, this product is actually quite impressive given that it only costs R69.50 and is available from the 29 nation-wide Ralo branches or at the Ralo Online Shop.

Just on a side note, I did contact Ralo and asked them about their Cruelty Free Status and they are 100% cruelty free which gives them even more brownie points!
