MUD By The Mountain

MUD WC LAUNCHThe launch for the press of the MUD Showroom in Claremont was small and intimate and involved a brief history of MUD as a brand, and how Brenda Botha, the owner of MUD South Africa has gone about launching MUD as a sustainable business model with an added purpose of rewarding professional makeup artists who make use of the products, unlike some other high profile brands within South African shores. Lindsay Fernandez is the proud owner and distributor of MUD within the Western Cape region and you can see her passion and excitement to be the name behind the MUD for the City of the Pretty Mountains, Cape Town and the whole of the Western Cape.

The MUD Showroom is actually quite large, it reminds me of a concept store, the products are displayed in a user-friendly interface with easily deciphered areas for Eyes, Face, Lips etc. The sales representatives are really fun and extremely knowledgeable about the MUD range, Vanessa covering the Southern Suburbs and Inge covering the Northern Suburbs will really give you the how-to and low-down on any questions relating to makeup and how to achieve your MUD look with the greatest ease. Vanessa did a small demo on Inge and transformed her look to ultra glam in about 10 minutes. When visiting the showroom, you will see its not just a retail space, its a place for education, a place for empowerment and a place to assist in getting your true beauty to shine through.

Before going to the launch I had too much excitement with the fact that MUD have officially launched their flagship store for the Western Cape in Claremont, directly opposite the main entrance to Cavendish Square in Vineyard Road. By now I am quite familiar from the brand and already sport some of their products on my day-to-day makeup routine but the simple fact that they are literally within driving distance excites me to no end because I can pop by whenever I have the chance and secondly, its MUD on my doorstep, goodbye credit card balance, helloooo pretty makeup!

True to form, I had pre-ordered a few goodies for me. Not for my kit. Just for me! I find as a makeup artist once I end up placing stuff in my makeup kit it becomes part of my work and I can not use it on me anymore, I think I have issues 😉 and in due time there will be reviews on these products and will undoubtedly be adding them to makeup kit in the foreseeable future. Anyone that happens to also follow me on Instagram would of seen some of these pictures, but I thought I’d share them here too.

Lipstick 101

Hiya Poutlings!! ♥

We have had a few different requests from all over and they have all gone along the lines of:

To put it simply, there is one general rule when it comes to lipstick:

Figuring out how to wear a bold lip can be a daunting task, especially if you’re not used to wearing lipstick. (Or if you’re basically used to ignoring the fact that you have lips on your face altogether) do not deny it, you have put lipstick on before and immediately taken it off because you didn’t know your lips looked like that… Am I wrong? Nah. It happens to the best of us.

The incorrect shade can wash you out, or make you look just plain ill or ready to go to a fancy dress party. And when you’re wearing a bright, bold lip color you just can’t help but feel so out there in the open.

Bright lipsticks can be fun, dramatic and sexy! Do not fear them.

First off, most people have either a yellowish undertone to their skin or a pink undertone to their skin.

How do you determine YOUR undertone?

Quick method: Have a look at your veins in your arm, if the veins appear green yellow undertones are present, which means your skin tone is warm. Veins that appear to be more blue indicate pink undertones which indicates that your skin is cool. Some people are in the middle, or what you’d call neutral.

If you have yellow undertones, pick shades that are blue in tone. If you are pinkish, go for orangey shades.

“If I had to teach someone just one thing about lip color it would be this: Find a lipstick that looks good on your face when you are wearing absolutely no makeup.” — Bobbi Brown, “Beauty”

Many women wrongly believe they can’t wear red lipstick. The secret to choosing the right red lip color is in the undertones. Pink undertones should go for a cherry red lipstick. Those with yellow undertoned skin can wear fire-engine red. Ethnic skin looks great with deep reds. One big red lipstick no-no: It’s best not to match lips to your outfit.

missfitz RED lip “stain” tip: if you think it’s rather daunting to wear a red lip, then put some quality lip ice on your lips and apply the correct red shade lipstick using your finger for the application on top of the lip ice. Try it. It works.

This is the worst thing. You buy something and are all excited about it but when you get home and try it, you wonder why you wasted your money. Under any circumstances dear Pouters – never throw out a new lipstick, even if you really don’t like it – that is a sin. You can create a great shades of lip colour by blending lipsticks you don’t like. For lipstick that’s just a bit too bright, tone down the colour with a darker liner before applying a lipstick.

To keep lipstick from wearing off so fast, fill in lips with liner before applying lipstick. Almost as though you are colouring them in. It works because it acts as a colour base, so when the lipstick wears off you still have the lip liner colour on your lips.

missfitz lip liner tip for lipstick virgins : line your lips once you have applied your lip colour – this will define them, without looking like you’ve drawn them on.
