The questions

  • What is your favourite beauty product you cannot live without?

special cleansing gelmac-studio-fix-fluidThis changes quite often. I fall in and out of products very frequently. Can anyone say brand fidelity? My longest standing beauty products would have to my Dermalogica skin care products and my MAC Studio Sculpt Fluid foundation and MAC Mineralize powder. I have always used these products for years and always restock them even though I am fortunate to have a countless amounts of brands that have moved through my dressing table/ bathroom cabinets.

  • Who is your ultimate date?

dateThis gorgeous man and just FYI ladies, he’s been my date for the past 7 years.

  • If you could go anywhere in the world right now where would it be and why?

HomeHome… or anywhere that feels like it. FYI, its people that make places feel like home. I love being at home with the people I love. With all my creature comforts. Bliss!

  • What is the last thing you take off at night ?Business

You nosy buggar…. none of your business. In all honestly, I don’t really know, depends what method I use before bed. I like to mix it up. It would be between hair clips/jewellery/makeup.

  • What would you spend R5000.00 rand on, if you were given 1 minute to make a decision right now?holiday

A holiday with le boyfriend. Somewhere…

  • What is top of your bucket list?happy

To be happy and have those around me be happy BUT I don’t really believe in bucket lists… if you are interested you can read about my ramblings on that, here.

  • Name and shame your worst public blooper … as in ever!blooper

I’m honestly so tired I can’t really think of anything worse than this… and this is pretty mediocre. When I was 11 years old I was given a mobile phone from my mother and at the time I was the only one at school who had a phone.. You also were not supposed to take mobile phones to school. Anyway, we had a morning assembling every Wednesday morning and I had forgotten to switch it off and my mum was only calling to leave a message to tell me to have a good day but it rang and interrupted the assembly and in front of the whole school I had to hand it to the principal. At the time it was the worst thing in the world, now I wouldn’t care less… lol. Sooo… sorry that’s a bit boring!

  • What is your favourite comfort food?

comfort foodChocolate is my day-to-day comfort food and anything super tasty like curry, stew with dumplings or when I’m back home in the UK nothing beats a steak and kidney pudding!!

All the blogs I frequent have been doing the rounds with these awards so I’m not going to nominate anyone 🙂

Radiant Skin

What do you think makes your skin radiant when applying a face of makeup? For me personally this changes a lot…. right now, I think its my powder and how I have been applying it.

There are numerous techniques that I use to achieve a flawless, radiant skin but since my skin has been playing along with me recently. It is actually behaving you guys! When applying my face in the morning I always apply a primer. Recently, I have been using the MUD Primer, followed by my Oxygenetix Foundation and a layer of Skin Mineralise powder from MAC. Nothing out of the ordinary but I have been enjoying a minimal skin routine which results in a medium coverage – my favourite….. When I feel like my skin really pops out and makes a statement of “glow” or “look at me“, recently is when applying my powder.

I have been using a new brush (I always get excited when using a new brush) from Burst Studio, specifically the FD 05 Stipple Foundation Brush, and although its a foundation brush, I use it to put powder on. Rebellious, I know…. Using the synthetic bristles on the brush to pick up the compact powder and swooping in circular motions on the foundation leaves the skin with a pretty glow. The brush retails for R227 from Burst Studio online.

BURST STUDIO

I finish off with eyes, powder contouring of the face and a swoop of lippie and et voila – ready to FACE the day. I only own this one Burst Studio brush and I seriously cannot wait to get my paws on more when its time for a brush upgrade. I have only heard good things about the entire range of brushes and have nothing but praise for this wonderful synthetic foundation brush (which I have yet to try and use for foundation yet). I believe this rivals some of the top brands brushes and the price range is really affordable.

Disclaimer: This brush was a gift from an event I attended at the beginning of the year. This has in no way altered my view of the brush or company in anyway.

Cover Me in MUD

Well, well, well, don’t mind me while I cover myself in mud!

To my complete surprise, we now have available in South Africa -which means – NO additional shipping fees, NO added VAT and no added hassle of ordering cosmetics online – Make-up Designory aka MUD.

MUD MAKEUP DESIGNORY

Since coming back from the IMATS London 2013 show, where I was introduced to the brand, I have been the busiest in a while with makeup work. I only really discovered the launch of MUD SA by accident two weeks ago and its so exiting…. Especially since I spent a lot of time talking to the artists at the MUD counter in London, I even bought some goodies from them!

MUD-AT-IMATS

Discovering new products that are high in quality and reasonable in price is really any makeup artists dream come true. Using a ton of product for a certain effect is a pain in the backside but fortunately due to the blend-ability (I know that is not word) and wearability (also not a word…)all of that is simply not necessary with MUD.

A little bit of a background, Make-up Designory is a well known makeup academy in the USA and graduates have been placed in artistry roles in television, Hollywood, film and fashion. You can read more about MUD here. Basically what I learnt about them in London is all about using makeup smartly. You don’t need 100 items when you can use 5, or 10, or whatever your personal preference is.

When a lot of South African makeup artists are presented with new products, I’ve found a lot of them compare them to MAC in quality, wear, blend, durability, pigment, colour, texture and price. As a huge MAC supporter over the years, probably having funded the entire rent of the V&A Waterfronts store on more than one occasion, I can say loudly that it rivals MAC on these levels. MUD is certainly on par, with quality, wear, blend, durability, and it beats MAC hands down on texture and price, however their colour range is not quite as loud and proud as MAC, it certainly is not a negative because how often do you wear those vibrant shadows that just sit in your kit…?

When testing the products at IMATS, I bought the following eye shadows and an added bonus is that they fit into my MAC pallets – which in branding is sacrilege but from a space and transport point of view it works well, so don’t judge… 😛

MUD Spanish Gold

MUD Spanish Gold

I bought the SPANISH GOLD shadow, which is the secret to pulling off bronze-gold satin eyes. It appears slightly warmer than in this picture and is like silk on the skin. It looks fantastic on EVERY skin tone and its a shade I can personally wear almost daily.

MUD Onyx Eyeshadow

MUD Onyx Eyeshadow

I also purchased ONYX shadow, which appears almost as dark as in this picture. It is a statement dark shadow but can be blended easily into a crease to create a super dramatic smoked out effect.

Best of all? They are 100% cruelty free. Happiness is…

cruelty free

I look forward to stocking up on more goodies from MUD. I really am ecstatic that they are in South Africa.
