A few weeks back a lot of the women on the internet were going all googly-eyed over Jeremy Meeks for apparently being the hottest fellon in the world after his mugshot was posted on the police station’s Facebook page following his arrest and it went viral. He was even known as “Hot Mugshot Guy” and trended on Twitter. In the past few days he has reportedly been offered a $30,000 (US Dollars not Zim Dollars) modelling contract. This does seem to be a matter of debate with no actual clarification from whom the modelling contract was offered, but even so its got chins wagging and I cant stop shaking my head. A lot of ladies are eagerly hoping this is in fact true in the hopes of doing what? Looking at headshots of Jeremy without a prison jumpsuit? Le sigh.
Well, that is suprising. Or is it? The internet seems to have a habit of making people famous that do not deserve the fame. Can we kindly cast a blind eye to someone that has committed a crime and get on with our lives? – rather than saying “Hey Mr. Meeks, you’re a naughty boy for commiting *insert whatever crime he was arrested for here* but because the general population of women on the intenet think you’re attractive we would like to use you to sell some products!”. Pfft. The answer seems to be no.
Will this silliness ever stop?
I had to take a double take when casting my eye upon the latest Spring/Summer 2014 images for Versace featuring Lady Gaga. I initially thought I was looking at a younger Donatella Versace and Lady Gaga, looks different than normal, although poor soul, she rarely looks normal. I actually quite like her appearance in the campaign, its refreshing, feminine, no weird or wacky pieces to look silly; and for a person who is not too fond (to say the least) of her or her general style, that is saying A LOT. Wearing minimal makeup and sporting Donatella’s sleek blonde tresses and wearing beautiful gowns she looks almost like a young Donatella has been cloned and is reliving the glory days of her youth.
Dontatella and Lady Gaga seem to be good friends…
“I am honoured that my friend Lady Gaga is the face of our new Versace campaign. I wanted to capture her true beauty and spirit in images that are elegant and alluring. She is like family to me, the embodiment of the Versace DNA.”
Well, Gaga certainly seems to be Donatella’s doppelganger, not too sure about family, but who knows the plot may thicken!
The images were lensed by Mert and Marcus at the location in London and so far only these two have been released.
It feels like only a few weeks ago I was browsing through the countless amounts of Fall/Winter 2013 campaigns but time has passed far too quickly this year and bam we are being bombarded left, right and centre with 2014 campaigns!
Gucci has model Andrea Diaconu, who stands out for her poise, for the new Resort 2014 campaigns, the resort campaign is true elegance with golden skin reflective of the beautiful backdrop of the reddish-gold sunset. The pictures have a distinctive feel that they could be quite vintage, but they also bring some modern feeling to them too. I am still not loving slicked back hairstyles, especially with such feminine designs but it seems like they are here to stay for a while.
Everything about the clothing pieces to the pair of gold ankle straps and the metallic clutch in silver translate to luxury and high style, enforcing Gucci is a true Italian brand.
Do you love it too?
A few days ago, Tyra tweeted some professional pictures of herself portraying Cara Delevinge, Cindy Crawford and Kate Moss.
She described this venture on her Twitter feed as:
“I’ve put my own spin on #NYFW with a tribute to some of the fiercest #SuperModels ever. Unretouched. Real. Raw.”
Mainly, these looks I believe were achieved with makeup, lots of it – its all the eyebrows – look closer!
As soon as these pictures hit the internet the trolls went on a ‘is this racist/not racist’ tangent, I believe we need to admire her bravery for attempting these. Respect for the fact that these people, fall into the same category as her – SUPER MODELS. I do not believe they were executed excellently but rather they sort of do the trick. I am also not sure whether it was a good idea but its the thought that counts, right?
CARA DELEVINGE BY TYRA BANKS
To recreate these looks has taken not only talent from a makeup artistry front but rather that from a photographic perspective, the lighting is overall these 3 images not done too badly… apart from the Kate Moss “The Grudge” look a like picture (but let’s be honest the source and inspiration of this picture was from Kate’s heroin chic phase anyway – so bravo Tyra & Co??).
TYRA DOES “HEROIN CHIC”
The press release gives the feeling that these 3 images are part of a 15 image series… I’m very curious to see the others and I will be sure to share these with you.
