MUD Studio in SOUTH AFRICA launching in April

Being a huge MUD supporter and having first being acquainted with the brand at IMATS 2 years ago, I know that the MUD brand has so much to offer in terms of not only makeup BUT education too. The fact that showrooms rolled out across the country throughout last few years, is great for professionals and consumers alike to have products with not only the best quality but great prices and multiple uses available which easily rival some of the other brand names that have dominated the South African shores for long. MUD is not just about a product that you buy and use though, they are about understanding, education and techniques of how to effectively use their products for the best results from the products you buy from them. NEW-MUD-STUDIO

This is because when MUD was founded in 1997 in North Hollywood, California their main focus was not just amazing products, it was about the education and world class training facilities. The MUD curriculum and teaching style is being made available locally in order to improve the quality of our professional makeup services, beauty salons, image consultants and training institutions and not to forget the end user consumer who will receive the best results from using the products correctly. Brenda Botha is the owner of the MUD South Africa brand and she has made it her mission to make sure that South Africa is not left behind in the dust with the renowned MUD standards of training. Hence the MUD Studio concept is launching in April and it something for everyone to get excited about. Continue reading

MUD Makeup Remover Towelettes

I have had a little bit of a love affair the past 6 weeks or so with a disposable makeup remover towelettes from MUD, Makeup Designory who seriously have the worlds best face wipes. A packet of 40 will cost you R248.00 which is not cheap by face wipe standards but they are so worth the money. Absolute no purchase regret here for me. In fact I want to buy MORE!! I bought these with my MUD haul that I purchased around August sometime and I have just used my last wipe on the weekend. I am already itching to get my hands on another packet because although I don’t always use face wipes to remove my makeup, these are the best for removing heavy eye makeup and waterproof mascara.

MUD MAKEUP REMOVER TOWELETTES

The toweletes are not only huge, I mean, one on its own is big enough to remove an entire face of makeup (face, eyes and lips = there is enough room to wipe on ONE cloth, not like other brands where the toweletes are small and you need 2 -3) but also they are incredibly soothing on the skin. Leaving behind a beautiful cool and refreshing sensation on your barefaced skin.

The packaging is a resealable packet which towards the end of my face wipes life decided that sticking back together was a mission but I managed to always keep something on top of the packet to ensure that it didn’t pop open. doing this made sure that until the very last face wipe was used that the towelettes remained moist and ready to tackle makeup. These were not only a life saver when I was travelling overseas but they were a pleasure to use in the hot Tuscan weather and left you feeling utterly refreshed which makes me think that these will no doubt be needed for a refreshing summer skin.

For a showroom near you please check the MUD website. Don’t forget to follow them on Twitter @MUDsouthafrica and Facebook to keep up to date with all the latest news about MUD!!

Radiant Skin

What do you think makes your skin radiant when applying a face of makeup? For me personally this changes a lot…. right now, I think its my powder and how I have been applying it.

There are numerous techniques that I use to achieve a flawless, radiant skin but since my skin has been playing along with me recently. It is actually behaving you guys! When applying my face in the morning I always apply a primer. Recently, I have been using the MUD Primer, followed by my Oxygenetix Foundation and a layer of Skin Mineralise powder from MAC. Nothing out of the ordinary but I have been enjoying a minimal skin routine which results in a medium coverage – my favourite….. When I feel like my skin really pops out and makes a statement of “glow” or “look at me“, recently is when applying my powder.

I have been using a new brush (I always get excited when using a new brush) from Burst Studio, specifically the FD 05 Stipple Foundation Brush, and although its a foundation brush, I use it to put powder on. Rebellious, I know…. Using the synthetic bristles on the brush to pick up the compact powder and swooping in circular motions on the foundation leaves the skin with a pretty glow. The brush retails for R227 from Burst Studio online.

BURST STUDIO

I finish off with eyes, powder contouring of the face and a swoop of lippie and et voila – ready to FACE the day. I only own this one Burst Studio brush and I seriously cannot wait to get my paws on more when its time for a brush upgrade. I have only heard good things about the entire range of brushes and have nothing but praise for this wonderful synthetic foundation brush (which I have yet to try and use for foundation yet). I believe this rivals some of the top brands brushes and the price range is really affordable.

Disclaimer: This brush was a gift from an event I attended at the beginning of the year. This has in no way altered my view of the brush or company in anyway.

A Little Burlesque

A couple of weeks ago I told you about the launch of the MUD Showroom in Claremont, Cape Town and I purchased some gorgeous new additions for my face. Well, following this I just had to play and I added a little bit of a razzle dazzle with some of MUD lipstick in Burlesque on my lips.

MUD Burlesque

This lipstick is absolutely to die for! It is a matte deep red cherry colour which is highly pigmented. Due to the fact that the lipstick is matte, is has a long staying power and regular touch ups are not necessary.

Even while eating and drinking the colour stays prominent on the lips without fading or wiping off easily. Obviously there are a few lip stick stains on a glass or if you have just applied your lippie then you might smudge it if you go and kiss your beau, but that being said once a couple of hours rolls round you sort of feel that you should maybe check your lips only to be surprised and find out that they are still the same colour as when you left the house which is a total bonus.

I would rate the MUD lipstick range with a better staying power than MAC lipstick, the lipsticks are not as creamy in texture in comparison but they are still moisturising and incredibly effective to rock a bold or natural lip for any occasion.

The lipsticks retail for R210 and are available from MUD South Africa distributors and stockists nationwide, for the nearest to you have a look on their website here.

MUD By The Mountain

MUD WC LAUNCHThe launch for the press of the MUD Showroom in Claremont was small and intimate and involved a brief history of MUD as a brand, and how Brenda Botha, the owner of MUD South Africa has gone about launching MUD as a sustainable business model with an added purpose of rewarding professional makeup artists who make use of the products, unlike some other high profile brands within South African shores. Lindsay Fernandez is the proud owner and distributor of MUD within the Western Cape region and you can see her passion and excitement to be the name behind the MUD for the City of the Pretty Mountains, Cape Town and the whole of the Western Cape.

The MUD Showroom is actually quite large, it reminds me of a concept store, the products are displayed in a user-friendly interface with easily deciphered areas for Eyes, Face, Lips etc. The sales representatives are really fun and extremely knowledgeable about the MUD range, Vanessa covering the Southern Suburbs and Inge covering the Northern Suburbs will really give you the how-to and low-down on any questions relating to makeup and how to achieve your MUD look with the greatest ease. Vanessa did a small demo on Inge and transformed her look to ultra glam in about 10 minutes. When visiting the showroom, you will see its not just a retail space, its a place for education, a place for empowerment and a place to assist in getting your true beauty to shine through.

Before going to the launch I had too much excitement with the fact that MUD have officially launched their flagship store for the Western Cape in Claremont, directly opposite the main entrance to Cavendish Square in Vineyard Road. By now I am quite familiar from the brand and already sport some of their products on my day-to-day makeup routine but the simple fact that they are literally within driving distance excites me to no end because I can pop by whenever I have the chance and secondly, its MUD on my doorstep, goodbye credit card balance, helloooo pretty makeup!

True to form, I had pre-ordered a few goodies for me. Not for my kit. Just for me! I find as a makeup artist once I end up placing stuff in my makeup kit it becomes part of my work and I can not use it on me anymore, I think I have issues 😉 and in due time there will be reviews on these products and will undoubtedly be adding them to makeup kit in the foreseeable future. Anyone that happens to also follow me on Instagram would of seen some of these pictures, but I thought I’d share them here too.

For more information on the Western Cape MUD Showroom please contact  MUD Western Cape/ Rapid Culture and be sure to check out their Facebook and Twitter @rapid_culture / @MUDsouthafrica to keep updated with events, new products, existing products and specials!
