PFW: Jean Paul Gaultier – ’80s Gay Icons – Not as Fabulous As It Sounds…

Hiya Poutlings

There are not many words falling out of my gawping mouth as aI look again and again at the tribute to ’80s gay icons that was Jean Paul Gaultier‘s Spring 2013 runway show at Paris Fashion Week.

We all love some Madonna, Grace Jones and Boy George, but this is a cringe-worthy pop parade which did neither Jean Paul Gaultier nor the memories of these artists in their prime any justice, whatsoever.

Let the pictures do the talking with my running internal dialog of what I think:

Opening with Mork and Mindy V-tuxedo a la Grace Jones

On to more androgyny with a few Annie Lennox-es

Madonna look 1 – Blonde Ambition

Madonna look 2 – Like a Virgin

More Boy George circa Culture Club Karma Chameleon than is healthy for the senses

Michael Jackson-alikes. Dear God will it end. Philip Treacy wrung this one dry… and I have not yet blogged about, but I may do so… but Michael Jackon scares me.

oh look… a Jamie Foxx look-a-like…

Aaah, Sade.

Ziggy Bizarre-dust

The ugliest garment to ever walk a Paris runway, EVER.

and in true Jean Paul Gaultier style, he closed the runway with a bunch of late ’80s bondage house dancers – which in fairness should close everything ever.

one of the bondage house dancers who closed Jean Paul Gaultier’s show…

Jean Paul Gaultier got dealt a tough card with having to follow Phillip Treacy’s dramatic London show which featured Michael Jackson’s actual costumes, the show was only 2 weeks ago so that kinda leaves Jean Paul sitting in the dust behind Phillip Treacy. I may even have to blog about Phillip Treacy’s show, just to show you the awe of the garments he made, but the thoughts of looking at lots of Michael Jackson-likes scares me, he really does scare me.

As with Jean Paul Gaultier’s Amy Winehouse tribute last season, Jean Paul is on what seems to be an unstoppable attempt to bring back an irrelevant circus act.

What do you think of his collection? Did it hurt your eyes like it did mine??

Kristin Stewart Looks Super Excited About Her New Job, oh… Maybe not!

Hi Pouters!

Kirsten Stewart attend the Balenciaga Ready-To-Wear Fall/Winter 2012 show as part of Paris Fashion Week on March 1, 2012 in Paris.

So did you hear about Kristin Stewart’s new job? She is the new face of Balenciaga perfume. She is going to be a real life model that is supposed to portray emotions in photographs…. it’s going to be so beautiful!

The news that she had landed this job, that I daresay others would have given a right tit for, came out in January and this is what she had to say about it:

“I love Balenciaga fashion because it is incredibly bold and forceful, yet feminine and sexy,” Kristen said in a statement. “I found there was a real creative freedom in this project. I feel blessed and really proud to be the face of this new fragrance.”

Last week she was in Paris for Fashion Week taking care of some business obligations and going to Fashion Shows and such, anyone should be blessed to be in such a position however she doesn’t look happy. Oh, wait, she never looks happy, does she? But really, dare I say she looks sullen? Gloomy? As though someone is busy pissing on her face? In serious pain? Oh, stop that Fi, be nice….

Why is she not happy that her job requires her to go to fashion shows? It sure beats filing… Thats for sure!

And I don’t want to pick on her too much, I can understand that when one is doing such exciting and incredible things, I can even get all caught up and be completely distracted that people can ask you “Are you having any fun at all?” or “Why do you look so miserable?”  so I do understand she cannot be smiling all the time, but surely as a part of being in the public eye so much she would of had some emotion coaching or training to not look so spaced out and uninterested all the time?

She is working. She is not supposed to look like she’s been smacked multiple times in the face by a dead fish. She is trying to make a good impression on the brand and that constant pout isn’t going to do her any favours, in my opinion anyway… It’s like I can hear Balenciaga’s public relation manager in the back of my mind yelling “MISS STEWART…. NO BONUS FOR YOU! YOU MAKE OUR BRAND LOOK LIKE MISERY PERSONIFIED” at the top of his lungs.

Have a look at the pictures and let me know what you think?

Haute Couture : Alexis Mabille : Spring 2012 Collection

Good Monday Morning ❤

Alexis Mabille

and if you’re not clued up on who they are in the haute couture world, an official guest member for the spring/summer 2012 fashion week in Paris.

This collection was show cased on Monday….

Alexis Mabille’s inspiration was

“It is only women who do not know how to dress that are afraid of colors”

and later explained that the collection was also inspired by a photograph of iconic model Lisa Fonssagrives on a beach, her face suffused with pink from the sunlight coming through her umbrella.

The beautiful models on the catwalk were : Emilia Nawarecka , Katlin Aas , Kamila Filipcikova, Caterina Ravaglia, Linnea Regnander, Eugenia Mandzhieva, Thana Kuhnen , Pauline van der Cruysse, Shena Moulton, Alana Bunte , Anais Pouliot, Kelli Lumi, Karo Mrozkova, So Young Kang, Tilda Lindstam ,Simona Andrejic and Antonia Wesseloh.

Each item of clothing, as I can only imagine you just saw from my collection of images from the show above, was monochrome. Alexis Mabille was really making the c0lour blocking statement as bold as he possibly could, and as such each models face was painted the same shade as the giant piece of tissue paper mounted to her head. I must be honest, upon first looking at these images – I hated them. The idea has started to grown on me and I can see some light at the end of the tunnel for the collection, however a lot of the critics haven’t.

Fashion critics have questioned Alexis Mabille’s quality of the couture he produced for this years Fashion Week, in comparasion to the grand masters.

A penny for your thoughts Pouters?
