Essence Soft Touch Mousse Makeup

When it comes to using and loving foundations, I tend to be overly critical. I basically have one type that I love to use, and very seldom try something new or switch it up.

So when these little pots came along, my excitement levels did not rise as it usually would. But then I decided that to be totally fair, I would have to give it a try and see what happens.

It is housed in a small glass pot, with a coloured screw on lid that indicates the shade of the product inside. Upon opening it, it looks divine. So lovely, that I did not want to ruin the lovely inside by using it. The product itself is odourless and the consistency is a mousse, gel like whipped cream. It has a lovely texture.

It is easy to apply and blend. The coverage of this product is quite good and you need only to apply and blend once, because it is matte, whipped and sheer it might look caked if you apply more than one coat.

Longevity of this product is also a surprise. I did not expect it to last as long, but it does. And when I use a primer, it stays perfectly put the whole day. Another added benefit is the fact that it is matte. My skin looks velvety and shine free the whole day. No more shiny patches halfway through the day.

I am happy to report that I have substituted my regular heavy foundation with this one daily. It’s lightness, the matte finish and the fact that it has not clogged my pores once is what won me over. My first tub of this is almost empty, and I have already purchased another one. And for only R63-50 and the quality you are receiving for that price, I am converted.

Love,

Leandra

Catrice Absolute Rose Eyeshadow Palette – 010 Frankie Rose to Hollywood

There is something magical about eyeshadow palettes, you get so many colours with different effects and it feels like one can never have enough of the lovely colours that makes our eyes pop.

20150606_155647

Housed in a plastic container, this pan contains 6 shades that goes from light to dark. Along with the palette you receive a dual ended applicator, one side being a sponge applicator and the other side being a small brush. To be honest, I never use the applicators provided and use my own eyeshadow brushes.

20150606_155730

The colours in this palette is simply beautiful and you can create so many different looks with it. It is hard to capture a picture of the colours that does it justice, so I ended up not including the swatch pictures, because it does not look they way it looks on your eyes.

Varying from light to dark, the colours range from pearly, to matte to shimmer. I have been loving all of these colours and use it basically every day, the only colour I find hard to ‘relate to’ is the dark colour on the far right. I have been struggling to blend the maroon shimmer colour perfectly.

This palette is highly pigmented, smooth on application and very easy to blend, the only problem I am finding with it is that I experience a lot of fallout of product. In the pan itself, but also under my eyes while applying it. So my only tip would be to keep your concealer and setting powder at hand when you apply this product as you might have to follow up with a touch up after applying the eyeshadow. Will it keep me from using it? In no way, no. With such lovely colours it is not a deal breaker with me.

The longevity of this product is quite good, but I have found that if I use it combined with the Catrice Prime and fine eyeshadow base, that the colours seems to stay on longer and that the base just makes the colours pop a little more.

For a budget item, this is definitely a good buy. You can find it at Dischem stores nationwide and it retails for R90.

Love,

Leandra

Clean Shiny Hair, Moroccan Style

Every time I end up doing a hair related post I normally always get stuck on the fact that I naturally have a very oily scalp. That means a lot of the products work well but they are not made for me. I initially thought this before I started using the Moroccanoil Extra Volume Shampoo and Moroccanoil Extra Volume conditioner as I was not expecting it to work for me as an everyday shampoo and conditioner. What i thought is that this could be part of a weekly hair treat, you know one on a Sunday afternoon or when i don’t have to face the world afterwards because my scalp reacts and makes my entire hair look horrible. Well, I was wrong. So very wrong. This has become my everyday (sometimes every second day) hair washing ritual.

I am officially hooked on this product… but before I go into details, lets talk about the product itself….

The packaging is very Moroccanoil style generic, it doesn’t look like much 2 250ml bottles, one white – the conditioner and the other blue – the shampoo. It is specifically for fine hair and those that are looking for some extra volume. It is sulphate free and not tested on animals. It is packed with rich nutrients and argan oil to enrich the hair and make it more healthy, shiny and make it have more body.Moroccanoil

It ticks all of the above and more…  both of the products have a masculine woody scent with a slight accent of a floral note, nothing too empowering though as this Shampoo and Conditioner are designed to be unisex. They do however leave your hair with a very sexy scent that lingers when your hair is flicked.

The Extra Volume Shampoo it is a creamy gel which lathers up quickly and rinsing out easily. It leaves my problematic scalp feeling moisturised but not overly stimulated with no irritation.

The Extra Volume Conditioner is a smooth, lightweight and creamy formula. I visibly noticed that with ease it lifted the sign of any tangles (thank you Cape Town wind!).

Overall, when my hair has been washed with the Moroccanoil Extra Volume Shampoo and Extra Volume Conditioner I have noticed a visible difference in the condition of my scalp. This I believe is down to the rich argan oil which is present in the products. My hair can last up to two days with no washing (huge achievement for me) and retaining its shine while being naturally lifted from the root. A little certainly goes a long way, to my shampoo bottle I have used only half of my conditioner. So I will need to restock on my shampoo before I have finished my conditioner.

I am going to be stocking up this weekend from my nearest hair salon… You can get your paws on the Moroccanoil Extra Volume Shampoo for R290 and the Moroccanoil Extra Volume Conditioner for R310!

Starting Quick with Mio in the Mornings

QuickStart Shower Cream Tube 200ml_300dpi print...I’ve been dying for ages to get my paws on a tube of exhilarating shower gel from Mio ever since I have experienced their Liquid Yoga, I am completely in love with this brand! Like all their products, the QuickStart shower gel main objective is to give you FIT SKIN FOR LIFE but this one in particular is to give you CLEAN & FIT SKIN FOR LIFE while leaving you feel ready to tackle any challenges of the day ahead. Mio wants you to wake up happy! With QuickStart that is an objective that can be set even when missing your routine cup of coffee (just don’t skip the shower – you need to the magic of the QuickStart!)

While QuickStart cleansing the skin, it leaves the skin feeling hydrated and leaves the skin brighter and relieves any swelling or puffiness from a hard nights sleep. The trick with QuickStart, to get the absolute full benefit is to breathe properly in the shower and take in the full benefit of minty zesty essential oils. With some impressive ingredients on the list, these include:

Amazing Ingredients

Coconut derived cleansers natural gentle cleansers give a low lather deep cleanse without stripping skin of vital oils.

Spearmint Oil tones and soothes skin with naturally powerful antioxidants, stimulating circulation

Witch Hazel Extract Natural antibacterial skin pH balancer to protect skin with strong antioxidant benefits

V-Tonic Mega-uplifting blend including oils of Spearmint Leaf, Citrus Lemon Peel, Cypress Leaf, Menthol and Lavender that will help improve circulation and energy levels

Mio knows that its no coincidence that some of the best ideas that come to mind happen in the bathroom. There is actually scientific evidence which explains why. Creativity is a side effect of an infused dopamine chemical – this can happen when we are in the bath and shower… while doing so it relaxes our bodies which in turn relaxes our minds.

As with all Mio products, they are proud to contain NO NASTIES. QuickStart is free from parabens, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance and colourants, xenoestrogens, PEGs, phthalates & glycols.

The shower gel is 200ml and retails from Poise Brands at selected salons, spas and retail outlets for R415.00 – be sure to get your paws on some to start 2015 with a bang!

Classic Skincare the Optiphi Way

Optiphi Restore TherapyMy experiences with Optiphi only get more and more enjoyable. From a brand I just knew a name and nothing about, the pleasure of having being introduced to the ladies behind the Cape Town marketing side late last year has made me be completely intrigued by their wonderful and sophisticated approach to skincare.

My first ever encounter was with their Refine-Foliant, which I received in a goodie bag and was so excited to use it in this particular goodie bag I also received the Restore Therapy which I had yet to use until very recently.  I am actually craving to get my paws on another bottle of the Refine-Foliant as it is really amazing stuff. My second encounter with the brand didn’t fail to disappoint and that was with their body care range Body Curve Body Lotion which has been my skin saviour this winter.

For the past few weeks I have been using their wonderful night cream from their Classic Skincare range, called Restore Therapy. It is a dermal restoration moisturiser and it has taken me so long to use it because I have never really battled with dry skin until starting my course of skincare peels.  With the cold weather, and peeling my skin has not been feeling itself and I feel like when I was looking in the mirror my face was screaming dehydration at me. The Classic Skincare range by Optiphi is said to ensure healthy skin by reinstating moisture and redefining skin architecture. The Refine-Foliant is actually also part of the Classic Skincare range too. It is not normal for me to be craving moisture products for my face but because of the dehydration what an amazing product to use to restore the moisture. I started using the Restore Therapy because I do have complete faith in Optiphi living up to their promises, and I have not been disappointed. I also could not leave this gorgeous bottle unattended any longer and had to start smothering my face with this divine moisturiser. The product has breathed a new life of moisture back into my skin and leaves my skin feeling silky smooth.

Restore Therapy moisturiser activates a cascade of effects that restore skin density, supports your skincare structure, promotes elasticity, activates collagen and replenishes lost moisture.

The bottle is huge and a little goes a long way, it is a night cream as they do not have any SPF in the product but in the Classic Skincare range they have a moisturiser called Complete Therapy which is said to work hand in hand with this night cream. The product retails between R650 – R900 and is available at selected salons nationwide. For more information on stockists please contact Optiphi.

Don’t forget to check out Optiphi’s website, Twitter @Optiphi and Facebook.
