Sorbet Skincare Collection

Sometimes being a beauty blogger has additional perks like going to flashy events. Last week, I was fortunate to be invited to attend the launch of Sorbet’s latest offering. The Skincare Collection. The event was the #SorbetSkinShow which showcased the new range in a different light on a runway.

In a nutshell, this collection of skincare is split into 3 ranges for specific skin conditions, concerns and care. The ranges are:

Hydro SkinSorbet Hydro Skin

Developed specifically for tired and dehydrated skin that needs a boost. The 4 products in this range are designed to restore a bright and healthier looking complexion by incorporating moisture back into the skincare regimen.

Salon Skin Sorbet Salon Skin

Developed specifically for problematic skin concerns and curb irritated skin. Mixing a bit of science and nature together has resulted in the 8 products in this range which are designed to stop problem skin in its tracks.

Age EffectSorbet Age Effect

Developed specifically for mature skin that the signs of ageing skin are a concern. The 6 products in this range are an intense anti-ageing solution for a more plump youthful appearance with reduced appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Over the course of the next few weeks I will be incorporating a few products into my skincare routine. I will share my experience with these products with you.

All of these items will be available at Clicks and Sorbet stores nationwide. I believe a great present for anyone who is looking for an updated skin routine over the next few weeks of festivities!

Gloss Nail and Beauty

Gloss LogoSalons, truly are my absolute guilty pleasure and one of favourite places to visit. I was recently treated to the most divine pedicure on my recent trip to the “City of Gold” at the gorgeous Gloss Nail and Beauty Salon in the Birdhaven area in Johannesburg area. Upon arriving at the tranquil Gloss Nail and Beauty Salon, one cannot help but be mesmerised by the beauty of the boutique salon, as it simplistic but oh so fantastic. White and grey colours adorn the salon walls and floor which echoes the epitome of tranquillity. Gloss Nail and Beauty Gloss Nail and Beauty

The staff are welcoming and make sure you feel at home, not to mention really knowing their way around an amazing pedicure! The pedicure I was spoiled to made use of the most premium products, including the heavenly Liquid Yoga as part of the amazing concoction for my foot soak as well as numerous OPI products and the polish I had for my toes was an OPI polish from their Brazilian range. Further to their nail treatments, Gloss also offers a number of body and facial treatments – including the state of the art St Tropez spray booth. This tan is revolutionary as it eliminates the smell and fumes of fake tan so you leave with a sun kissed glow and no smell of a bottled tan in sight. The facial treatments make use of Dermalogica which one can never go wrong with.

You cannot help leave with a smile on your face at the end of your treatment and walk away with feeling pampered and so relaxed.

Thank you for the spoils Gloss, I will be sure to be back when I’m in the area.

If you’re in the area, be sure to book an appointment. Gloss Nail and Beauty is situated at Shop 3, Birdhaven Centre, 66 St. Andrews Road, Birdhaven or call them on (011) 447-9273 for more information.

Salon Overload

Approximately two years ago, upon moving half way across the country and leaving my much beloved salon of +/- 10 years I was faced with a dilemma in Cape Town of where do I go and who do I trust for all the admin of waxing but also the occasional spoils of a pedicure, a facial or even a massage?

Fortunately, I found my Cape Town salon counterpart to my much loved Johannesburg one and luckily they are a 5 minute drive away from where I now live which is a bonus but finding them was not easy. Upon searching salons in my area I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of beauty spas and I could easily spot one or two were self-proclaimed “specialists” of their field when they were looking for an extra buck or two on the weekend.

salon finder

Enter the solution to all of the problems I faced and more, Salon-Finder.co.za the premium website for spa and salon listings in your area with the option to score and write up on your experience and share with other people looking for some R’nR or for specific treatments in your area. Additionally they have up-to-date product reviews, full treatment listings and other spa related information in a user friendly format that even Grandmothers could use. Think of them, quite simply as the Trip Advisor of the beauty salon and treatment world. You don’t book a holiday without checking out where you will be sleeping, eating and relaxing without the help of Trip Advisor. Make sure you do not book an appointment at a new salon or spa without checking out their rating on Salon-Finder. No more guess work, no more betting on having a good time at XYZ day spa just because they have a Groupon with 99.99% off – are they really worth it? Read honest reviews of the experiences of other customers and make an informed decision.

Samantha Currie who is a qualified beauty therapist and former owner of her own salon is the big cheese behind Salon-Finder.co.za.

“The concept for the site came to me three years ago after constant requests from friends and family for salon referrals. The site has just undergone an overhaul and there are some exciting new features, which allow visitors to rate a spa or salon as well as having the option to leave a review to help others choose the right salon for them.”

Dear John, Thank You

Dear John Frieda,

You may think I forgot about you and how you spoiled me, I have not forgotten and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and all the wonderful people that work with you (especially Janlyn) for thinking so generously of me and other bloggers alike and completely spoiling us with your new range for our specific hair needs.

The reason it took me so long to use your products is that I’ve been going through some hair problems of my own from an extremely overactive sebaceous gland to major hair loss and I’ve been trying to remedy this problem (cause still unknown) without making it worse. After various attempts and a few weeks waiting I decided I really had to put my box full of goodies which have been sitting in my bathroom to good use. Oh boy, was it a refreshing experience.John Frieda

The Liquid Shine Brilliant Brunette Shampoo and Conditioner range have such a beautiful scent without being over powering. They are not the best Shampoo and Conditioner I have ever used for my hair but bearing in mind my hair is on a whirlwind adventure of its own at the moment, but they are certainly lovely products.

I have not tried to heat styling or the hair spray yet, but the Frizz Ease does help with unruly knots from the wonderful South East Wind that all the Cape Townians love to hate! Although Frizz is not a problem I encounter often, I did notice my hair was exceptionally smooth after using this product. I only use one spray and work it through with a big toothed comb.

Thank you John, once my head decides to sort itself out I promise to try the Luxurious Volume heat protector spray and Luxurious Volume hair spray.

Guest Contribution : Multi-Tasking Moisturisers

We are all on a lifelong mission to achieve or maintain flawless skin.  As we are forever bombarded with the latest fad which promises to brighten, tighten, firm and hydrate, knowing which products to choose can seem daunting.

However, flawless skin doesn’t have to cost the world.  Achieving the perfect complexion requires well made products and a consistent, well honed skin care regime.  It needn’t be that complicated.  In fact, it should be the opposite! We don’t need hundreds of lotions and potions in order to have good skin.  That’s why I have wanted to share with you my top 5 multi-tasking moisturisers.

Best for Spots

Moisturising is one of the best ways to achieve that airbrushed look as well as keeping wrinkles at bay.  However if you are prone to spots, the last thing you want to do is slap more products on then and further aggravate your skin.  Opt for lightweight, oil-free moisturisers like Skyn Iceland’s Pure Pore Minimiser.  Designed with stressed out skin in mind, this miracle cream will decongest and detoxify tired, lacklustre skin.  MOISTURISER 01

Best for Wrinkles

Hydration is key when you want to target the signs of premature aging.  Prolong your youthful appearance and ward off the first signs of aging with Nuxe’s Nirvanesque range.  Their 1st Wrinkles Smoothing Emulsion not only soothes and relaxes skin but the revolutionary plant-based solution reduces fine lines and wrinkles.  MOISTURISER 02

Best All Rounder

If like me you juggle a busy lifestyle and are trying to withstand the stresses of everyday modern life with hormonal changes as well as banish the first signs of aging then I cannot recommend this Intensive Hydra Gel Moisturiser enough.  Made using natural active ingredients including vitamin E and collagen to give your skin a boost, this oil free moisturiser from Love Your Skin not only water-based meaning it is suitable for all skin types but will also give your skin an intensive moisturising and hydrating experience.  MOISTURISER 03
