A Little Burlesque

A couple of weeks ago I told you about the launch of the MUD Showroom in Claremont, Cape Town and I purchased some gorgeous new additions for my face. Well, following this I just had to play and I added a little bit of a razzle dazzle with some of MUD lipstick in Burlesque on my lips.

MUD Burlesque

This lipstick is absolutely to die for! It is a matte deep red cherry colour which is highly pigmented. Due to the fact that the lipstick is matte, is has a long staying power and regular touch ups are not necessary.

Even while eating and drinking the colour stays prominent on the lips without fading or wiping off easily. Obviously there are a few lip stick stains on a glass or if you have just applied your lippie then you might smudge it if you go and kiss your beau, but that being said once a couple of hours rolls round you sort of feel that you should maybe check your lips only to be surprised and find out that they are still the same colour as when you left the house which is a total bonus.

I would rate the MUD lipstick range with a better staying power than MAC lipstick, the lipsticks are not as creamy in texture in comparison but they are still moisturising and incredibly effective to rock a bold or natural lip for any occasion.

The lipsticks retail for R210 and are available from MUD South Africa distributors and stockists nationwide, for the nearest to you have a look on their website here.

Scarlett Johansson’s Scream-Worthy Cover of V Magazine

On a front cover that is sure to make any Alfred Hitchcock fan happy, Scarlett Johansson has gone a little pyscho and stars in V Magazine to promote her rols as Janet Leigh in the coming film Hitchcock.

Horror fans and fashionistas alike can appreciate the subtlety of the latest cover. The high contrast image along with Scarlett’s red lips and shower curtain “V” make this a cover worthy of framing.

The issue is on stands overseas now.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch the trailer for Hitchcock yet, you can do so right now.

Anthony Hopkins stars alongside Scarlett Johansson in a film that will chronicle the making of the movie that changed the genre of horror as we know it.

Lipstick 101

Hiya Poutlings!! ‚ô•

We have had a few different requests from all over and they have all gone along the lines of:

HOW DO I CHOOSE THE PERFECT SHADE OF LIPSTICK FOR MY SKIN?

To put it simply, there is one general rule when it comes to lipstick:

IF YOU LIKE IT, WEAR IT.

Figuring out how to wear a bold lip can be a daunting task, especially if you’re not used to wearing lipstick. (Or if you’re basically used to ignoring the fact that you have lips on your face altogether) do not deny it, you have put lipstick on before and immediately taken it off because you didn’t know your lips looked like that… Am I wrong? Nah. It happens to the best of us.

The¬†incorrect shade can wash you out, or make you look just plain ill or ready to go to a fancy dress party. And when you’re wearing a bright, bold lip color you just can’t help but feel so out there in the open.

Bright lipsticks can be fun, dramatic and sexy! Do not fear them.

First off, most people have either a yellowish undertone to their skin or a pink undertone to their skin.

How do you determine YOUR undertone?

Quick method: Have a look at your veins in your arm, if the veins appear green yellow undertones are present, which means your skin tone is warm. Veins that appear to be more blue indicate pink undertones which indicates that¬†your skin is cool. Some¬†people are in the middle, or what you’d call neutral.

If you have yellow undertones, pick shades that are blue in tone. If you are pinkish, go for orangey shades.

“If I had to teach someone just one thing about lip color it would be this: Find a lipstick that looks good on your face when you are wearing absolutely no makeup.” — Bobbi Brown, “Beauty”

MORE IMPORTANTLY:

HOW CAN I PICK THE RIGHT SHADE OF RED LIPSTICK?

Many women wrongly believe they can’t wear red lipstick. The secret to choosing the right red lip color is in the undertones. Pink undertones should¬†go for a cherry red lipstick. Those with¬†yellow undertoned skin¬†can wear fire-engine red.¬†Ethnic skin looks great with deep reds. One big red lipstick no-no: It’s best not to match lips to your outfit.

missfitz RED lip “stain” tip: if you think it’s rather daunting to wear a red lip, then put some quality lip ice on your lips and apply the correct red shade lipstick using your finger for the application on top of the lip ice. Try it. It works.

¬†I HATE THE NEW LIPSTICK I JUST BOUGHT ūüė¶

This is the worst thing. You buy something and are all excited about it but when you get home and try it, you wonder why you wasted your money. Under any circumstances dear Pouters – never throw out a new lipstick, even if you really don’t like it – that is a sin. You can create a great¬†shades of¬†lip colour¬†by blending lipsticks you don’t like. For lipstick that’s just a bit too bright, tone down the colour with a darker liner before applying a lipstick.

WHY MUST I USE LIP LINER?

To keep lipstick from wearing off so fast, fill in lips with liner before applying lipstick. Almost as though you are colouring them in. It works because it acts as a colour base, so when the lipstick wears off you still have the lip liner colour on your lips.

missfitz lip liner tip for¬†lipstick virgins¬†: line your lips once you have applied your lip colour – this will define them, without looking like you’ve drawn them on.
