Bottled Yoga… Bottled Bliss

So since this year I’ve embarked on my personal challenge of living a better healthier, happier life in every sense this has included in the regime something I am not very good at. Exercise. I am persisting and trying very hard but it still is begrudgingly because I have to and certainly not because I want to – side note: you gym bunnies/exercise gurus tire me out when I read about how excited you are to go and work out! Apart from walking frequently, along with some high intensity cardio training at home I have also been attempting to do some very basic DIY yoga at home. This yoga has also been a by-product of a bit of help and advice from my mother who has been doing yoga for more than 10 years when she is visiting teaching me. Needless to say I am horrible and can I just state for the record – its REALLY hard!

The fun fresh and energetic skincare brand Mio, meaning “for me” which has grown from the Mamma Mio Skincare brand which is specifically for pregnant ladies; have some wonderful products on the market for those of us who are not pregnant but who want the healthiest skin possible in order to face all the stresses that we put our skin through on a daily basis and Mio has spoilt me rotten by giving me their amazing Liquid Yoga bath soak to try out. This yoga in liquid form is far more refreshing and rewarding than me falling over in heap while trying to do yoga on a mat. MIO

MIO FIT SKIN FOR LIFE

First, confession time I have not bathed at home in over 2 years! I have had the odd bath at hotels because they look so lush but at home I’m a shower girl as its also 10 times easier to wash your hair and its quicker because, lets face it – who has time to actually bath anymore?

After quite a day on Tuesday and not having had slept properly in 3 nights I was absolutely shattered to say the least and after receiving this product on Friday after smelling it I had been dying to get myself into the bath and see what all the fuss was about. Oh my word – it was the most relaxing 30 – 45 minutes (I lost count) of my life, once I stepped out of the bath I was ready to go to bed and not speak to anyone for a good 10 hours or so and Eskom agreed as the power went out. Good timing Eskom!

Mio Liquid Yoga is far more pleasant than my every-other day attempt of none-bottled yoga which I would imagine to watch would be quite amusing to watch! MIO LIQUID YOGA

Liquid Yoga is simply a product which silently whispers serenity, peace and calm. It is bottled in a gorgeous solid glass bottle that contains 200ml of bath soak, using only one “glug” per bath or a cap full I would imagine you could easily get a minimum of 10 baths per bottle of liquid yoga. The product is a non-foaming which initially surprised me but upon reading more about Mio and their skin care philosophies they have a wonderful policy which they call the “No Nasties” which means that they are not only passionate about what ingredients that they put into their products but also what ingredients are left out; and that is something to help to sit back relax and enjoy the liquid yoga.

When soaking in the tub with the most ostentatious bath soak I’ve ever come across, I felt my stiff muscles relax especially my tense shoulders. The product has also managed to make my house smell absolutely divine for the past few days and I simply cannot wait to have another Liquid Yoga indulgence again. Thank you Mio!!!

The bottle advises: “Warning: Liquid Yoga may cause relaxation and happiness” but there is really no may about it. It does cause relaxation and happiness and it has totally converted me to bathing for relaxation. I think I might just be hooked.

Liquid Yoga is available at selected salons and retails for R550 for 200ml. Well worth the investment and perfect to wind down after a long week. Guess what I’m doing later! 😉

Hey Fabulous Pouters!

So we all trying to keep fit and healthy in the busy lifestyles people have now a days, yet most people struggle due to the fact that they are so busy.

We all need to keep it simple, and remember the basics about what our bodies need and what they don’t need, we often put our bodies through stress because of the type of foods we eat or by not giving our bodies time to relax.

I am going to give you our Pouters some helpful tips one should use, whether you male or female.

Tip 1: Replenish your energy.

Energy is essential in this sleep-deprived, over stretched, high-speed world.

-Firstly we need to add more alkaline-forming foods into your diet, such as green leafy vegetables, almonds, dates, celery,

-We must now get rid of excess sugar as this can cause fluctuations in blood sugar level which can cause plummeting energy levels.

-Insufficient protein can cause lowered energy levels, so pack some almonds and nuts for a quick convenient snack.

-I know this will be hard for our very own Sandylash, yet we need to cut down on the intake of coffee, as coffee initially raises stress hormones and gives a rush of energy. Try to gradually cut back on the coffee intake.

-Take time for yourself, at least a 20min relaxation period, where you do nothing stressful, like read a book, have some tea in the garden, listen to some music, or a soothing bubble bath.

-And the all time common one is drink plenty of water.

Tip 2: Revamp your diet.

-Start your morning right, have breakfast! Eating breakfast has shown it prevents over-eating during the day. Stick to a healthier option for breakfasts, either high fibre, or a smoothie, some yoghurt and muslei.

-Eat more veggies, try stick to veggies that are most natural as these contain the most nutrients.

-Cut out butter or margarine, these are both tasteless fatty substances we use to create the illusion of something tasting better, all you tasting is the salt that’s been added into these products. Rather cook with olive oil or avocado oil.

-Cut out fizzy drinks, they packed with sugar and are overall not good for you, if you feel you really need a fizzy drink choose Appletizer, their fizzy drinks are a lot healthier than the others.

-Cut down on the in take of carbs, if you are gaming or doing any type of sporting activity make sure you have your daily carbs before your workout. Don’t eat carbs later than 4pm.

Tip 3: Improve your digestion.

-Chew, chew, chew! Take smaller bites, put your fork in between bites, thoroughly chew each bite of food, do not rush when you eat. If it helps use chopsticks to eat, this will cause you to slow down.

-Increase your dietary fibre. Eat dried fruits, beans and legumes, take an apple to work.

-Practise mindful eating. Slowly savour the flavour of the food, and be aware of how much of the food is enough. Create a peaceful atmosphere to eat in, this will prevent you from rushing and you will enjoy your meal more, which will help with cravings later on.

Tip 4: De-stress your schedule.

-Write it down. Have all your events, meetings, plans, birthdays, etc written down and planned out in a diary of some sort, so you can see where you have space open to make further plans, or to prevent missing important events or meetings.

-The five minute rule. If a task comes up and it’s going to take less than five min, do it there and then. It will help from those little jobs building up, without impacting our productivity.

-Think carefully about the things you take on, do not over crowd yourself with things to do, this will lead to you disappointing either yourself or someone else if you can’t handle it.

Tip 5: Move your body.

-My all time favourite is to get into the gym and get moving, there is nothing better than a great workout, 20-30min of medium intensity exercising daily is sufficient to keep the body going, but it has never harmed anyone to push a little harder and do a little more.

-Target your ‘core’ this is the area around your trunk and pelvis, including your abs and lower back. Targeting these muscles, not only gives you nice abs, but gives support to your lower back. A week core over time can lead to bad posture, lower back pain and injury.

-Try new and different exercises, otherwise you’ll get bored and lose interest.

-Make gym your friend and enjoy the time there, don’t turn it into something you dislike

Stick to the basics when it comes to health and wellness, and your body will thank you for it!
