Lingerie Letters – April 2013

Hi Poutlings!

20130417_174226If you didn’t see my Lingerie Letters product & service review from last month – clickety click! I just thought I’d share my April letter with you… and for everyone that giggled about my personal remark about sharing my knickers online, I’m doing it again….

20130417_174239

This month was a pair of French knickers, and Lingerie Letters had gone very tres chic with their love notes they send out along with the knickers!

20130417_174416I don’t think I own another pair of French knickers, which I believe are also called “tap pants” in the USA… They are more similar to a pair of boxer shorts, compared to traditionally fitted underwear. If you wear these during the day, be sure to pair them with very loose fitting pants or a flowing skirt as they can create quite a large visible panty line with the likes of wearing skinny jeans for example.  I think might become a new part of my nightwear, haven’t decided yet though.

20130417_174303

This month Lingerie Letters also sent along with the knickers “Comfitex Feminie Wipes“, which I assume are of a similar nature to the other products of the same genre on the market, but I have never read or can find any information on the company to be more informed, maybe Lingerie Letters would have more info on this?

Don’t forget to check out their website LingerieLetters.co.za and sign up for the one month option, for R95, if you are not sure about how this thing works, it’s fun, cute, a bit cheeky and a very unique idea! They are also quite interactive on their Facebook Page and I’m sure will respond to any queries you may have, alternatively, check them out on Twitter – @LingerieLetters

Ridiculous Price Tag on a Stupid T-Shirt

Hi Pouters

Did you read about this custom t-shirt, the worlds “most expensive” t-shirt, made of crocodile skin? Take a deep breath, or many, because this is actually happening in the world.

stupid hermes t-shirt in question...

stupid hermes t-shirt in question…

How much would you spend on a t-shirt, realistically? I am talking about a t-shirt, something you pair with your jeans, or what you work out in, wear on casual day, wear for a walk, you know, a t-shirt…. Depending on the t-shirt itself and if it would guarantee that I would look completely drop dead gorgeous in it, at a push, I would probably spend up to R500… and that is even a lot. I’d much more likely to actually spend about 20% of that above mentioned price.

Now, think of how much money any of the men in your life would realistically spend on a tshirt? R350 maximum? Well, I can only speak for the men that I know in my life and well, R350 is pushing the boundary ever so slightly, but you know, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Hermes is already known for carrying a plain white t-shirt for $345, roughly R3,277.50, but the latest item in its invetory is simply just cold blooded, according to most opinions on the social media. I tend to agree.

Hermes have designed a croc-leather look t-shirt for menswear Spring/Summer that is retailing at a staggering price of $91,500, roughly R869,20.00 and it is now considered to be the most expensive t-shirt in the world. That price is apparently also missing retail tax of approximately $8,000, so the approximate price of this garment is: R950,000!!! price tag on stupid hermes shirt

The picture of the price tag clearly shows the $91,500 number. Made of crocodile this t-shirt looks absolutely horrendous!! Who wants a leather-y like freaking t-shirt??? Imagine how a man would sweat in that. Actually, any man who wanted to and/or elected to wear this deserves to actually sweat their balls off….

It’s not the first time that Hermes has stunned the world with a whopping price tag. Last year the brand presented a $2 million, roughly R19,000,000, Kelly bag version encrusted with diamonds although too small to hold anything and even earlier there was a red croc leather Birkin bag with white gold and diamond hardware was acutioned at $203,150, roughly, R1,929,925.

Despite the fact that a living creature had to die in vain in order for this t-shirt to be made, which is a whole different debate entirely, with less money I think I could buy my own crocodile and get a high end tailor to make a shirt of a similar nature.

This “fashion” is absolutely ridiculous. I shudder to think what is going to be the next thing to “top” this…

What do you think about this shirt, and its price tag?

Lingerie Letters – March 2013

Hiya Poutlings!

So, I know I’m a bit behind on updating you on some of my recent purchases and experiences which I  am dying to share my  with our amazing readers, so here goes my first one (of many to come in the near future!)

If you love pretty things, underwear included, this one is definitely up your alley!

Lingerie Letters – Service & Product Review

The product and service is EXACTLY as the name suggests…. once you have signed up for the service, you will be guaranteed to receive a new pair of knickers in your post box, once a month. Just like that, SUPRISE.

I was slightly taken a back by this in the beginning, but being an open minded individual, I decided to give it a try and I need to say that I have been utterly impressed by the service and how ingenious the idea really is.

You sign up online with your personal details and every month you receive a suprise pair of knickers in the post. It is a different idea but its cute and it works, so very well.

The suprise element is definitely the best feature of this service, as you have the option to choose weather you want your favourite style, i.e. thongs, briefs or suprise me! and preferred size (XS – XXL) and then Lingere Letters suprise you every month with a new pair of drawers, in the post.

Website navigation: 9/10 & Payment: 9/10

Simple, easy, efficent navigation and payment

Notification of Payment: 10/10

I had just closed my web browser and received an email almost immediately that I was signed up for the next postage run

Suprise element: 10/10

by the time the item was in the post I had no idea that it had been sent! In fact, I am not sure how long it had been in my postbox for!!

Originality: 10/10

As far as I am aware, this is the first suprise lingerie postage service in South Africa, and the originality of the knickers they sent were unlike any I have seen in the shopping malls recently, so cute and fun.

Quality of the product: 10/10

These are by no means cheaply made, they are absolutely exquisite.

Price: 9/10

Afforable and competitive pricing, in line with the pricing in stores for buying individual pairs of knickers, especially if you buy the 6 month option. 20130402_08203320130402_082057

Packaging: 8/10

Thankfully the postage is rather discreet, the envelope is a plain white post which appears to be full, inside is the pretty Lingerie Letters envelope which encases the pair of knickers being sent to you in a small little sealed plastic packet. I was ever so grateful for the plastic packaging as I stated earlier, I do not know how long the post had been sitting in my postbox and I can tell that the envelope had been exposed to the elements, so the knickers were not damaged.

Now, that we know the service works because its been tried and tested by me… This would this be such a cute idea for a bachelorette gift for one of your close girl friends that is getting married… I think so.

this has to possibly be one of the most personal things I've ever shared on a post, my knickers. I saved you the fortune of seeing me parading around in them... jokes. ha ha, now stop looking at my knickers... moving on!

Lead in Lipstick – What is all the HYPE About?

Helloooo Poutlings

As a beauty product enthusiast (one may say “hoarder” but I am a makeup artist, so it’s ok!) lipstick is one of my very favourite things in the world. At any given moment I have a bare minimum of 5 tubes rattling around in my handbag… and another 500 at home. When I buy a new one, (which I do often), I consider the colour, the texture, the packaging the longevity of the formula and sometimes, let’s be honest, just how luxurious it looks and feels. What I am definitely not thinking about, however, is what actually goes into it.

I was momentarily dismayed last year by a number of studies conducted by the FDA that found significat amounts of lead in at least 400 lipstick formulas, but it mostly applied to the “drugstore” brands, with a few exceptions.

0909-lipsticks

I thought, because the lipsticks I buy generally cost upward of at least R200.00, they must be lovingly crafted with safe, healthy ingredients in Narnia by cuddly dexterous animals wearing vests. Ignorance is bliss, babes, and there was no substantial evidence to say otherwise.

But my warped logic has been compromised: I received one of THOSE emails, you know, THAT email, that people forward not sure if it is true but they want to warn you anyway. The email claimed that all lipstick contained enough lead to kill you, well maybe not that much but enough to kill you sometime in the near future. So, I did as Fi does and researched.

“Good Morning America”, a television show in USA tested 22 types of lipstick and found that a serious majority – over 55% – contained traceable amounts of lead, regardless of the colour, brand or manufacturing origin.

Still, I’m not going to surrender my Guerlain Rouge Automatique in favour of some TV show somewhere in the world just YET. The FDA assures us all that trace amounts of lead in lipstick, the levels of which have actually dropped over in the past year of 2012 cannot harm you. You aren’t eating that shit straight out of the tube, are you? I hope not. But if these statistics are freaking you out, nonetheless, you can count on brands like Tarte, ILIA Beauty, Jane Iredale and Vapour Beauty for completely clean, lead free alternatives to what you might otherwise pick up at Clicks or Dischem.

…and I suppose South African cell networks would love to blame these findings on the poor cell phone reception at times. haha.
