Think positive and focus on gratitude- positive attitude will help you build healthier immune system and boost your overall health. It is true that our body believes on what you think and thus it is credible to focus on positive undertaking.

Eat more vegetables– put more interest on eating vegetables at least five times a day. A diet high in vegetables is associated with reduced risk of developing cancers of the lung, colon, breast, cervix, stomach, pancreas and ovary. Put more interest on eating foods such as cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, grapes and leaf greens.

Set a five meal ideal– it is credible if you mind what, when and what to eat to help you balance your metabolism and energy levels. This ideal situation will help you manage your weight, keep you cool and maintain your focus towards avoiding cravings.

Exercise daily– investing in daily exercises will help you reduce all biomarkers of aging such as impaired eyesight, blood pressure, lean muscles and bone density. Regular exercise will improve bone density, lower cholesterol and help you live longer. Setting aside ten minutes daily for exercise will help you make difference in your life. The Stress Factor

GOOD MORNING STRESSI’ve found myself in a different state of mind the past few months, or the whole year really if I look back. My career is changing which inevitably means that my whole life is changing, even though a career is only a small part of ones life it does influence and affect your life in many ways; on top of that I have an upcoming holiday planned to Italy which I am not prepared for… then there are bills to be paid, a fridge to be filled with groceries and a house that needs cleaning, laundry to be done and so the list goes on! You know what I’m talking about, general life stress. I’ve found that it is really frazzling my nerves out to no end. Constant worrying, struggling to sleep, literally losing my hair, anxiousness, constantly tired and just stressed in every sense of the word. Stress can be paralyzing and doing things within your power to cope is empowering and makes you feel better in the long run.

I have done a bit of reading on how to cope with stress and the basic consensus is that stress is unavoidable, it will always barge into your life uninvited and its easy to let it bully you into feeling helpless but there are many things one can do in order to cope with various stresses. Here is a short guide from me on how I try to cope with everyday stress…

Identify the cause of the stress.STRESS

Sometimes when we are stressed our entire existance seems to be one huge stress factor and every corner you look there are different stressors staring you in the face and you end up taking the defensive position which is not the best solution. Stop spinning in stress. Identiy what you are actually stressed about. Is it a specific project at work, an exam, a fight with a friend, dirty dishes or laundry which are piled up? By enabling yourself to learn to identify the main culprit of stress will enable you to feel one small step towards getting organised and taking action.

You cannot control everything.

You will never be able to be in charge of what your in laws say or the sad state of affair that our country is in, you can learn to control how you react, how you accomplish work and how you spend your own time and what you spend your money on. The worst thing to stress about is things beyond your control as this makes you even MORE stressed and makes you feel helpless.

Spend time doing what you love.

If working your passion is not possible then take another approach and think about life. It is much easier when you manage various bundles of stress in between doing activities you love. If this is not possibly all the time make sure you spend time doing the hobbies you are passionate about. If you haven’t found a passion yet spend some time experimenting with different hobbies. Write, paint, sing, dance, go for a walk. The possibilities for finding a passion are endless and don’t give up if you have yet to find yours.

Time management is key.

One of the biggest stresses in my life is what I perceive to be a lack of time to get stuff done. I never wanted to be one of those people who have to schedule everything into a diary but if I didnt, I wouldnt get time to spend with friends or family. Family and friend time to me is one of the biggest and most enjoyable times to have and it makes me sad that I feel like I have to schedule time for it but in order to give my all to these people whom I love so much, I really do have to schedule them in between all the other stuff that needs to get done.

If all else fails, just book yourself into a salon and have a massage to try and destress your body and try even harder to de-stress your mind. Remember, someone busier than you is having a massage right now!!

Sweet Beauty Sleep

Oh So Heavenly truly make the most wonderful products, or at least all the ones I have tried have been nothing less than lovely. Their entire range is huge and you should check it out at Clicks sometime! Beauty Sleep Pillow Mist 100ml

At a Bloggers Who Bless event, in a goodie bag I was given part of the Oh So Heavenly Beauty Sleep Collection, Wish Upon a Star Soothing Pillow Mist. The product is as it says, a mist you spray onto your pillow or bedding and the blend of aromatherapy with Lavender, Orange and Patchouli oils makes magic in your senses by calming your mind in order to inspire peaceful beauty sleep.

I have only been using my pillow mist for the past 2 weeks and I can truly say I love it and I never want to be without it. I sleep with 2 pillows, so before I go to brush my teeth and wash my face I spritz 2 sprays of the pillow mist onto my pillows and it makes my room smell gorgeous. The lavender is very powerful and luckily one of my favourite aromatherapy smells. I then proceed to the bathroom to do the admin of night time skin care routine and cleaning of teeth before retreating back into a heavenly scented room ready for some serious sleep.

Call it coincidence or the placebo effect but since I started using this little gem I have found that once my head hits that pillow it doesn’t take long for me to wind down and get sleepy and before I know it pass out entirely. I believe the bottle will last for ages and I would seriously recommend this to anyone that battles with sleeping, as there is nothing worse than lying in bed when you’ve been stressed and your body is exhausted but that mind won’t wind down and let you have peaceful, undisturbed sleep. So far, so good and I will be taking this spritz-bottle of happiness wherever I find myself on my extensive adventures over the next few weeks in order to get the best possible sleep.

Soothing Pillow Mist is available at Clicks nationwide and is R19.95 for 100ml.

Let the Smart Bed Sort Out Your Sleeping Woes

It seems that the world has been dumb for too long and now the smart era is upon us, with smart phones, smart appliances comes the rise of the new smart bed. The product was launced at Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and showcased a double mattress bed that does everything that tracks your sleeping habits by breathing, heart rate, whether you are lying still or tossing and turning over the course of the sleep and even makes your sleeping partner stop snoring. No elbows and/or shaking required!X12 Smart Bed

This clever bed is called x12, and is apparently $8,000 approximately R80,000 but they wanted to make sure that apart from all the smart things it does, it gives you even more value for your R80,000 because it listens to your voice and you can command it to initiate under bed lighting, built in massage and its anti-snore feature (which raises the angle at which the snorer is sleeping to temporarily relieve the snoring.

I am amazed and also perplexed, is this really what all our lives are going to come to – what’s next? I can’t help but wonder if this won’t be like constantly living in a hospital being hooked up to machines that monitor your heart, breath, etc. I did enough of that as a kid, so I am not too bothered, although the benefits for people who are ill will probably be increased tenfold. The insominacs probably wouldn’t benefit from something like this though.

Check this out!

Let Rooibos Fix You

Just like in the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding, where the older relative thinks that Windowlene will fix everything, South African’s are no different, with rooibos, but possibly with a bit more science to back up their claimrooibos bushs, rooibos will help your problems. We love drinking our rooibos tea, its benefits are widely known and even get some international recognition.

Reasons why we drink rooibos include, but are not limited to:

  1. It is a refreshing drink.
  2. It is caffeine free, which means its safe for everyone to drink including children and pregnant ladies.
  3. It has strong anti-oxidants which protect the body in a number of ways, including fighting free radicals and has very strong anti-inflammatory properties which helps prevent heart disease.
  4. There are studies that suggest consumption of rooibos tea results in a reduction of cancer causing chemicals.
  5. It is rich in minerals, like the soil it is grown in. Some of the minerals are magnesium for the immune system; calcium and manganese for healthy teeth and bones; zinc for the metabolism; and iron which is important for helping blood and muscles distribute oxygen.
  6. It can resolve tummy cramps.
  7. Protects against Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
  8. Encourages a restful sleep.
  9. Research suggests that drinking rooibos may assist in weight management, as part of a healthy lifestyle.
  10. It can relieve skin conditions.

So, have you added “DRINK MORE ROOIBOS” to your new years resolutions? Me neither. I don’t believe in resolutions… and I will tea regardless of whether its on a list 😛

african extracts

Toward the end of the year I received the African Extracts Rooibos Skin Care as a present which is made using rooibos which is grown in the Cederberg mountains. African Extracts is designed by South Africans for South African skin. As rooibos contains a phunylpyretic acid, which helps improve acne, psoriasis and eczema you can actually apply a cooled tea bag to affected areas on the skin for a jump start to soothe and heal any inflammation but if the thought of this sounds a bit dramatic and possibly crazy, the African Extract range is able to address your skin concerns and provide all the benefits of rooibos tea bags on a daily basis in your skin care routine. The powerful antioxidants in all the African Extract products protect you from harsh environmental stress and pollutants.

Cleansing_LotionThe soothing cleansing lotion retails for R47.00 and is just that, I used it when my skin was aggravated after being in the sun and on a game drive for a few hours and once I had finished cleansing my skin had calmed down tenfold, and felt refreshed. Continue reading
