Life Comparasions

Life 01We all know how dangerous it is to wander down the paths of comparing yourself to others because we often compare the wrong things. Social media only helps to increase this unfortunate unwanted comparison. Learning to realise first and foremost that it is impossible to determine who is living a more valuable life by comparing clothes, cars, homes, salaries, beauty or Twitter and Instagram followers. Net worth, numbers and material items essentially mean nothing in the grand scheme of life and because its social media remember there are always 100 different angles to view what you are interpreting as the something to be envious of.

Life only gets more strange with age. The rate at which people mature around you from being a child through being a so-called adult is always at different rates. We all grow into a unique version of our own selves. Moral values you’re grown up to learn from your parents and those around you are always different due to backgrounds, circumstances and willpower. People have different views, different visions and different beliefs and you often will find yourself comparing your situation to theirs one too many times. This is dangerous, not only because you’re life is ultimately the only one that matters but this can give you a grass is greener feeling on their side of the fence.

This also does not entitle anyone to brag about what they have, how they got it or how hard they work and compare themselves with an added advantage. Comparing apples and oranges will show a distinctive amount of similarities but also a huge amount of differences. You might both be fruit but having come from different trees, growing under different climates and sprouting at different times is amazing. Celebrate the diversity, don’t brag about it. We are all striving for something. Some don’t know what that is and others have it already figured out already. There is no need to consistently put yourself out there expressing how well you are doing or what amazing stuff you have. There is simply nothing more annoying, nor another way to make everything you brag about questionable. Live for the moment, not for the excessive likes, double taps on Instagram or retweets because ultimately that in itself is rather pathetic.Life 03

Be a good, kind, compassionate human. Be there for your friends when they need to chin up and a gentle kick forward but if they are sad or having a bad day sometimes we all need that. If they are stuck comparing themselves to you or vice versa be sure to stop it immediately. Help each other out. Be your own people. Life 02

Once you start to compare yourself with others it will never end…. you ultimately are the only person that really matters and focussing your time and energy on someone else is putting you and your life development on hold. Focus on the right person, appreciate what you have right now, and focus on how you are going to achieve your goals in the future. At the end of the day, your purpose in life is not to be better than anyone else. It is not to outshine the majority and shine like the sun. The purpose of life is to live, enjoy and be happy with yourself and the only way to do this is to be best possible version of yourself that you can possibly be.

If you are battling with limiting how much you compare yourself with others, try these tips:

  • Limit your time spent on social networking sites which promote the feelings of under-worth rather than self-worth.
  • Remind yourself daily that every person including yourself is unique (no matter how cliché that might sound)
  • Compare yourself to yourself and only yourself. Try to improve it by setting goals and visualising how you will feel once those goals are achieved.
  • Distract yourself by doing things that you like when you find yourself comparing yourself to others.
  • Write down your thoughts.
  • Get with the programme, how significant is your problem compared to even more difficult life situations that people worldwide are suffering with today.
  • If all else fails, take your bestie – go for a coffee, let them give you a hug and then proceed to let them to kick your ass to get your thoughts back on track.

Do You Even Selfie?

Selfies are the internets bastard child but love them or hate them, they are here to stay. With selfie being reportedly incorporated into the dictionary and creating a stir with the pro-selfie lovers and the selfie-haters about it  was the focus of debate which has still not ended and has gone as far as being described as word of the year. Simply put, a selfie is the act of taking a self portrait, generally using a camera phone and holding the camera in weird angles in order to get the shot. Awesome Selfie 01Awesome Selfie 02

From a photography background, I truly don’t believe its a form of art or expression if it is using a smart phone and a filter but then again I am not the world’s biggest fans of selfies but I don’t hate them either – I’m all for anything in moderation. Old school self portraits using intricate lighting techniques and self timers can be passed off in my opinion more as art, expression as they still echo a certain je nes sais qua which an iPhone just can’t bring to the table. Too many iPhone selfies write the word NARCISSIT all over your face when I’m scrolling through my newsfeeds and your face in 100 different angles and expressions really grates my tits! However, with that being said, I have to take my hat off to the creativity of this unknown girl who has put a lot of effort into creating the most unique mirror-smartphone- selfies I’ve come across in a while. See more below… Continue reading

The Clothes Stay On – Makeup Comes Off

Hiya Poutlings

These pictures fascinate me. These women are renown for having fabulous makeup and hair because they spend their average working day with minimal if any clothing on. Who are they? Porn stars.

10111213151617181819192021Seems like they are just as average, if not in some cases slighter rougher around the edges than the rest of us. Ha.

Check out what makeup artist Melissa Murphy captured on her Instagram  account while working with some of the adult industry’s most famous “vixens?”… sorry, I have absolutely no idea what their names are.

thank goodness for makeup… lol

South Africa, Shit Service is Not Acceptable

Hell hath no fury like a Fi scorned.

It seems to be happening ALL to often to me lately, and seriously, I cannot understand how big corporate companies can get away with acting like douche bags and leaving the customer, or in this case, myself in the dark.

If its not one “service provider” its another, and I’m actually getting fed up. I know, its South Africa, shit service doesn’t bother people as much as it bothers me. My reason for being upset is simply this: I paid you for a service, you are not delivering said service to me, how is it ethical for you to take my money (and constantly take it from me on monthly basis) without you at least answering my question. This relates to a few different industries currently and is not aimed specifically at one. I am at my wits end at the moment.

I think you’re lucky if you haven’t ever experienced an hour long phone call with a customer service representative only to experience a dropped call; being transferred and cut off; being told “eish, email this person“; being bounced from department to department when you finally cannot take that stupid interlude tone; and you are just as, if not more, in the dark about your query that started in the first place.

Just think about it, if you are a freelance photographer, or a freelance makeup artist, you get paid for your services, you give a product/service back in return. Just imagine how you would get taken to the cleaners if you bounced your clients around from left to right, in order to get their images, or go and do their makeup? I am aware that this happens, however, I am talking about real professionals not fly-by-night “pro togs” or “pro MUAs”. One thing is for certain, if you don’t deliver, as a freelancer, you do not get paid the full amount, quite simple. Effective.

However, when one is dealing with big corporate companies, the left pinky has no idea what the right earlobe is up to and vice versa, then they bring in the call center which is just the big toe nail of the entire endeavour and it simply drives the consumer nuts. Today, right now, that consumer is me.

How can you actively retaliate bad service? On a serious note: The Consumer Protection Act was brought in order to assist the customer on the street have their rights protected. I won’t go into much detail on the CPA, unless anyone is actually interested, as I’ve studied in quite in depth and I’m writing an exam on it next month… *squeal of terror*.

Yes, everyone’s answer is now, “oh put it on their Facebook page”, “Tweet about it”, blah blah blah, all those social media ways of communicating have an option to delete the posts they really don’t want the public to see anyway, and to be quite honest, I do not want to have to resort to be THAT person (apologies if you are, I just prefer a more direct approach and solution). While doing some research on the CPA, after a horrendous hour and a half phone call to a certain SHIT company, who I will be reporting to the CPA 🙂 – I happened to come across these images, which are both sad – for the person doing the retaliation and entertaining that they would go to such lengths in order to make their unhappiness towards said company/product/service known to the general public.

Dave Carroll, was travelling with his band members is 2008 and witnessed United Airlines handlers throwing his $3,500 Taylor guitar. The guitar obviously ended up severely damaged and he pursued the airline for payment, which he was denied. As a result he wrote and produced three YouTube music videos about his shit experience, he has since written a book and embarked on a tour and created his own customer complaint site.

Yes, this post had absolutely no sparkles, no glitter, no makeup, no gossip or no beauty but you know what? It was informative, kind of, not really, but anyway, at least you know what I’ve been doing today. Let’s just say, I am not quite at the point of producing my own YouTube music videos, but I felt like it earlier.

Happy thoughts…. and breathe!
