Tight or Wide with G-Star RAW

A pair of jeans is not as on par as a pair of G-Stars RAW denims is. G-Star RAW have encapsulated all eras of our denims. The brand has been in existence since 1989 and have remained on point in terms of the fashion front. I would say trend is the wrong word. Possibly lifestyle of the brand has been focussed. Styles from when wide legs were fashionable to the formidable skinnies and since this is an ever changing circle in the realms of fashion they have expressed it through their wide range of styles and fits. For ladies, for gentlemen… for everyone.

With the help of exceptional photographer and film director Ellen von Unwerth they have brought out an incredible campaign. These images really do speak for themselves about a brand that is upbeat, not so serious about themselves but serious about fun, practicality and everyday wear.

Their message portrayed with these images is simple and beautiful.

Jeans connect us all.

A community beyond location, status, gender or age. Beyond style. Beyond fit.

The one garment we truly wear our own way.

I was invited to the Cape Town campaign launch last week but unfortunately I was unable to make it which I am super bummed about. However, G-Star RAW have launched their new collection for SS15 and its in stores from February. Go grab yours to express your style.

Find them on their website, Facebook and Twitter @GStarRAW. Now, G-Star RAW want to know – how do you wear yours? Let them know via all your social media today! With the hashtag…  #tightorwide

Mine most certainly has to be WIDE – what’s yours?

G-Star Raw Understands Denim Which Understands You

To be frank, G-Star Raw was a shop I have always found unapproachable until a few days ago when I got invited to their women’s event at the V&A Waterfront. I arrived rather sheepishly not knowing what to expect but after having a look around the amazing store, I actually thought to myself, this brand is so far from being unapproachable. If you have ever felt like that then I assure you, just walk in and your perception will change! They have something for everyone. Male and female. Every shape, cut and fit you could ever want from denims.

The event was hosted by local style connoisseurs – the createor and editor of Fashion Breed Aqeelah Harron Ally and artist/stylist at The Creative – Anelisa Mangcu. They shared their special relationship with the brand and how finding the perfect fit has affected their lives.

Since the brand launched a year before I was born, in 1989 they have taken denim to many heights, their most noteworthy achievement is that they made ‘luxury denim for the streets‘ by combining quality made denims with an edge, to make the best statement possible. Mixing this with washes and treatments, G Star Raw have created denims which are so much more than just another pair of denims. They are a further expression of you, your character, your lifestyle and your style. Their design is current but classic and a pair of denims will be an investment to your wardrobe, either dressing them up or down, you will feel equally as confident in the perfect fit for your shape.

Head of Women’s design for G-Star, Rebekka Bach explained,

“My team’s focus is to innovate with materials and fits that have a figure-enchancing effect. For example, the right placement of seams will determine whether your legs look skinnier and longer, and the right back pockets have a lifting effect.”

For the first time ever I might be vaguely excited to go shopping for a new pair of denims… as this is a task I have always seen as a chore! But G-Star Raw, be assured – I will be returning to the store in the new year to find MY perfect fit.

Thank you G-Star Raw, Aqeelah and Anelisa for having me at your event – I learnt so much and I am happy to have been formally introduced with G Star Raw denims.

A Wonderful Journey

The Journey Store

I was fortunate enough to attend the official launch party of The Journey Store last week. Having seen the Journey brand grow from selling on social media to being an actually fully functioning online store as well as being stocked at a couple of boutiques around Cape Town, including Sugar Plum Boutique in Fish Hoek (where the launch was held) with the most unique costume jewellery and drop dead gorgeous acrylic makeup organisers is wonderful. At the launch we were treated to delicious and guilt-free treats from In All Honesty, a company which specialises in health super foods and guilt free treats without any nasties and everything we munched on that night including cupcakes and brownies were all sugar, egg and gluten free!

Andrea and Rayne the brains and beauties behind the Journey Store

The Journey Store is headed up by Rayne and Andrea, both ladies are extremely driven and passionate toward their venture together and have a distinct feature of having their own individual contemporary styles which I believe is reflective in the goods that they have on offer. Some words that come to mind when thinking of all the jewellery they had on display at the launch are chirpy, fun, gorgeous, quirky, statement, original and inventive jewellery pieces, which are sure to add a statement to any outfit. The Journey Store branded acrylic organisers are nothing short of being gorgeous and are the ultimate accessory for stylish storage solutions on any dressing table.

Meet Clair, The Journey Store branded 6 layer display acrylic organiser.

I have added their Pluie acrylic organiser to store my excessive, almost border-line hoarding collection of makeup brushes and to store my foundation of the ‘moment’, in my quest to ensure that I start finishing my backlog of products. The Pluie cost me R849…. I know.  I always have a mini-heart attack when thinking about the prices of all styles of the acrylic boxes BUT, they are imported and then couriered to you. The geometric sizes and courier costs are excessive to begin with so cut them a break. You will be extra chuffed like me when you finally get it out of the box, put your makeup brushes in it and repeatedly tell everyone how beautiful it is… until you get threatened that if you don’t stop, the organiser may miraculously disappear…. but seriously, it really is so beautiful!!

I have added to my wonderful collection of quirky jewellery by adding The Journey Store Jewellery ‘handcuffs’ necklace, a la 50 shades of Grey which retails for R120 and their large ‘Owl Pendant’ necklace which retails for R220. This is a step outside of my comfort zone, because the items are gold in colour where I normally only wear silver colours – but they were too cute to pass up and I love them so much… I’ll have to get over my silver obsession!

Carlton Hair Has a Solution for Bad Hair Days

Dry Bar, when I stumbled across the concept, I thought it was something to do with an empty bar that someone had gone to town with the contents of the liquor, fortunately that is not the solution that Carlton Hair has for your bad hair days, their solution is simply a “Dry Bar” in the sense of blow-dries for sleek and straight or bouncy hair guaranteed to turn heads. No cuts, no colour, no unnecessary styling just washes and blow dries. The highly successful concept of a Dry Bar which has been a huge success overseas and is gaining popularity locally is in full swing. The dry bar concept started at Carlton Hair in Vancouver all the way back in 2007 and have gradually gained popularity internationally and have started taking shape on our shores with various establishments (not only Carlton Hair) offering these fast paced blow dries which pack a punch. Carlton Hair

Carlton Hair South Africa are the latest to offer the Dry Bar as a solution to the lady on-the-go who needs quicker styling in order to perfect and polish her look for any occasion. The introduction of the Dry Bars within the Carlton Hair group resemble a “salon within a salon”, by gaining foot traffic and bookings from Carlton Hair’s already outstanding exposure and result-driven reputation. The Dry Bars are launching the larger Carlton Hair initially being Hyde Park and Melrose Arch in Gauteng and Canal Walk and Cavendish in Cape Town. Given time, the Dry Bars will be available at various other Carlton Hair Salons.

The boasting factor of the Carlton Hair Dry Bar is that they use It Factor products which is a one-of-a-kind product made to save time on drying and styling all while providing superior conditioning and detangling ingredients. The It Factor products are safe to use on all hair types and free of alcohols, sulphates, sodium chloride and parabens. Essentially, It Factor is the ONLY styling products your hair will ever need, especially when your hair is in the hands of a trained Blow Dry Specialist. Blow-Dry-Bar-Menu

The menu of treatments available at the Dry Bar is limited as though not to complicate the treatment time and they all cost R150. On offer, there is Straight & Sleek; Straight with Body; Beachy Hair; Bouncy Curves and Red Carpet Waves.  Loyalty packages are available for buying more than 6 blow dries and you get a certain number free in return.

I am so interested in finally getting to try out a Dry Bar… I need to decide which upcoming event I am going to for my turn to finally get my locks tamed!

Tangled Tree – Wines With a Green Heart

birdsThere are fewer things that make me happier than seeing brands, big or small embracing the environment and acknowledging that it is important and even though going “green” is already incredibly popular overseas and more the norm than the exception to the rule, sadly it is not seen often enough in South Africa but Tangled Tree is changing that in the face of wine industry for South Africa. Their philosophy makes mention that they will not change the world by being caring towards the environment but changing the world and the face of the industry is not something that will simply happen over night, just like Rome wasn’t built in a day, companies embracing the change to address a happier world for the planet will too take time. Baby steps will get us there eventually.

How does Tangled Tree make a difference to promote a happier and healthier world for all? Well, for starters their bottles are not  glass like most wine bottles, Tangled Tree uses plastic containers using 100% recyclable materials which reduces the amount of waste and energy used in creating them. They are also assisting in promoting the bird life and wildlife in the Robertson region.

Living in Cape Town, everyone is  self-proclaimed connoisseur of fine wine, I’ll be the first one to admit I am no expert but I just enjoy the occasional glass of wine when I am not on my detox or follow up healthier eating plan but every now and then the occasion calls for a glass of something and what better than a glass of wine which was not only made with love, care and expertise but what about a glass of wine that was made with love for nature and our planet, Earth.

The wine I have waiting for me for a special day was a gift from the first #BWB meeting from Tangled Tree which I am so looking forward to having with a friend one day soon.

It’s also refreshing to have such a quirky and interactive brand on Twitter @TangledTree and Facebook, be sure to check out their website here for more information on their entire wine offering!!
