Carlton Hair Has a Solution for Bad Hair Days

Dry Bar, when I stumbled across the concept, I thought it was something to do with an empty bar that someone had gone to town with the contents of the liquor, fortunately that is not the solution that Carlton Hair has for your bad hair days, their solution is simply a “Dry Bar” in the sense of blow-dries for sleek and straight or bouncy hair guaranteed to turn heads. No cuts, no colour, no unnecessary styling just washes and blow dries. The highly successful concept of a Dry Bar which has been a huge success overseas and is gaining popularity locally is in full swing. The dry bar concept started at Carlton Hair in Vancouver all the way back in 2007 and have gradually gained popularity internationally and have started taking shape on our shores with various establishments (not only Carlton Hair) offering these fast paced blow dries which pack a punch. Carlton Hair

Carlton Hair South Africa are the latest to offer the Dry Bar as a solution to the lady on-the-go who needs quicker styling in order to perfect and polish her look for any occasion. The introduction of the Dry Bars within the Carlton Hair group resemble a “salon within a salon”, by gaining foot traffic and bookings from Carlton Hair’s already outstanding exposure and result-driven reputation. The Dry Bars are launching the larger Carlton Hair initially being Hyde Park and Melrose Arch in Gauteng and Canal Walk and Cavendish in Cape Town. Given time, the Dry Bars will be available at various other Carlton Hair Salons.

The boasting factor of the Carlton Hair Dry Bar is that they use It Factor products which is a one-of-a-kind product made to save time on drying and styling all while providing superior conditioning and detangling ingredients. The It Factor products are safe to use on all hair types and free of alcohols, sulphates, sodium chloride and parabens. Essentially, It Factor is the ONLY styling products your hair will ever need, especially when your hair is in the hands of a trained Blow Dry Specialist. Blow-Dry-Bar-Menu

The menu of treatments available at the Dry Bar is limited as though not to complicate the treatment time and they all cost R150. On offer, there is Straight & Sleek; Straight with Body; Beachy Hair; Bouncy Curves and Red Carpet Waves.  Loyalty packages are available for buying more than 6 blow dries and you get a certain number free in return.

I am so interested in finally getting to try out a Dry Bar… I need to decide which upcoming event I am going to for my turn to finally get my locks tamed!

Animal Nursery Editorial Controversy

Hi Poutlings

upton3

Here are some photos from a Harper’s Bazaar photo shoot featuring Kate Upton and some exotic fur babies. There is a lot of controversy, of course, as there always is with Miss Upton. However, before I touch on that, please can I confess – I love Kate’s styling in these photos. It’s very retro, but it’s incredibly flattering. I love the fact that no boobs are pushed on you when looking at these images, and I lovelovelove the fact that Bazaar has some hair and makeup people who weren’t hypnotised by her boobies and actually put some great effort in to make her look great!

upton2

The controversy? The editorial is aptly named “The Animal Nursery” and the theme is that Kate, is not only a largely talented breasted model, acting as a nurse to baby animals, and she poses winningly while holding up various kinds of animals.

upton4

The shoot was styled by Carine Roitfeld and it will appear in all 26 international editions of the magazine. This is hardly the first time a major fashion magazine appears tone deaf about how fashion editorials are accessorised. Vogue recently went under fire by using actual babies as accessories for fashion shoots, and just a couple of months ago, Vogue did an absolutely terrible shoot in the areas of New York which were drastically affected by Hurricane Sandy. So, where does “using endangered baby animals”” fall on the list of editorial disasters?

Fashionista reached out to Harper’s Bazaar, but no one at the magazine would issue any statements. Fashionista also reached out to Zoological Wildlife Foundation, which apparently provided the animals for the shoot, and they wouldn’t go on record either. But, as always PETA did, FYI – I am not a fan of PETA however their statement was interesting…

“The gibbon featured in the photographs is an infant and should be with his mother at all times. Besides the emotional trauma that he has undoubtedly suffered as a result of the separation, his delicate immune system is still developing, and he is susceptible to illness that humans carry. All the animals in the photographs are endangered and should be protected rather than being treated like props.”

Now, PETA, are melodramatic all the time, however – if all of what they are saying is true, (I’m not claiming to know because I am not a vet), then the gibbon should most definitely be with its mother. Damn. As for the little tiger… I think he is adorable. I wish he would follow me home and he could be my tiger for life. I bet he has super sharp kitten claws though… and to honest, that is what bothers me most about this shoot – that they had all those babies together on the set. What if the baby tiger thought the gibbon was a playmate and those kitten claws come out and then…? Disaster.

Anyway, what are your thoughts?

Dakota Fanning Wears Chanel & Couture Cat Ears

In my mind, it is crazy that Dakota Fanning is only 18 years old; the girl has been around for what seems to be like forever. The Fannings obviously don’t waste any time getting into the family business, but what I like about Dakota and her sister Elle is that they both seem incredibly smart and well-adjusted for the amount of fame they have both experienced at such young ages. I don’t forsee any Lohan-ing either in their futures… oh and let’s not forget to mention that they are both FASHION WONDERKIDS who are lucky enough to be outfitted by some of the most revered designers out there.

It’s very rare that an average 18 year old can wear Chanel and look at once totally arresting and also completely age appropriate, but I suppose if anyone’s going to be able to pull it off, it’s Dakota.

Dakota has covered the December issue of InStyle UK to promote her role as creepy Jane in Breaking Dawn : Part 2, and the cover shot itself features a white jacquard Chanel dress. Dakota looks beautiful, youthful and extremely sweet here.

I happen to have mixed feelings about the other photo which pictures her in a Dolce & Gabanna corset, a Roberto Cavalli skirt (which OMG, is GORGEOUS!), and cat ears. I really think we could have done with the cat ears, but from what I understand about styling (not a whole lot) the stylists wanted her to look youthful as she is still only 18 years old even though she’s going semi-risque with the corset. The interview isn’t very interesting but does include a question about Kristen Stewart’s affair with Rupert Sanders and the resultant crimpled heart of Sparkles.

ON THE TWIHARD MELTDOWN

“Everyone thinks they have the right to, you know, publicise the struggles and sadness and heartbreak and all of that. It’s like, ‘Why do you think you are the authority to judge people’s experiences?’ “

WHY SHE HASN’T LOST IT YET

“Why have I been able to stay sane in a sometimes insane world? The pure love of what I do. Making movies.”

ON THE HOUNDDOG RAPE SCENE

“I’ve always been drawn to material that’s more kind of heavy, you know? Whether it be dark or dramatic or sometimes disturbing. And that can be hard to do when people think you’re still a kid.”

SHE’S ONLY HAD 1 BOYFRIEND AND IS CURRENTLY SINGLE

“You know, I’m not the kind of girl or person who really wants a boyfriend in my life. I’m also the kind of person… I’m very black and white in what I feel and I don’t wanna be with someone that I don’t foresee spending a long time with.”

I think I understand Dakota’s perspective on the situation because she and Kirsten are very good friends and have not only worked together on The Twilight Saga but also grew very close on the set of The Runaways. Dakota only sees the good in Kristin, and she want’s to defend her. However, I don’t really think the bulk of the criticism over the K-Stew affair with Rupert has anything to do with “judg[ing] people’s experiences” in general. Instead, Kristen’s caught a lot of heat (from the non-Twihards, anyway) for pretending to be above all of the Hollywood cliches, and then she got caught behaving like a Hollywood cliche. Or rather, she got banging her married director like a so-called “typical” starlet.

As for Dakota, I hope she carries on just as she’s been doing as a NYU studen who somehow manages to squeeze in a bit of time for films on occassion. I predict she will be just fine.
