Summer Skin Sorted

Having just come back from a whirlwind overseas holiday to the amazing Italy and leaving the winter behind I was petrified of my lily white skin getting burnt to a crisp in the beautiful Rome, Tuscan and Milan heat. Fortunately, before I left, I got my paws on a product which I immediately thought would be amazing in preventing any burns, to my face anyway.

Meet Juliet (Armand SUN FILM 30), the other half to my Rome(-o) trip of Italy. The saviour of my skin. My new love and must-have product for summer 2014.

Meet Juliet (Armand SUN FILM 30), the other half to my Rome(-o) trip of Italy. The saviour of my skin. My new love and must-have product for summer 2014.

This little gem is from Juliette Armand, the Greek brand who focuses on your skin mood, rather than needs. The Sun Film Gel 30 boasts guaranteed protected against UVA and UVB rays to the highest standard, all while providing a slight tint to the skin (which lasts, doesn’t rub off or disappear a few hours to applying it) to ensure that your face is flawless. This product, was right up my alley for skin mood as it was in the mood for relaxation, minimal makeup, lots of sunshine and taking in all the tourist-y sights that Italy had on offer.

I religiously made use of the product following my normal skin care routine every morning before heading out for breakfast, I did not burn, at all. That on its own is a complete miracle as this British skin has 2 colours, white and red like the St. Georges flag. I may have come back without a tan, but that is fine as I did not come back with red, peeling or sore skin. *This used to be the story of my life!

Using my Sun Film, I replaced the need for me to wear a foundation or powder as it leaves the skin with a healthy subtle glow that lasts while providing much needed sun protection. The formula initially seemed a bit thick compared to other products I have used in the past, but when applied to your hand it spreads with the heat of your hand into a smooth, non-greasy formula which results in a wonderful slightly dewy finish thanks to the beautiful tint. When applying to your face there is a slight cooling sensation which is always welcome when the weather seems a bit humid.

I found that the product lasts, and only one day, when sightseeing and doing the typical tourist thing visiting the Coliseum and Roman Forums that I had to reapply my Sun Film as the heat was unbearable and I thought I’d rather be safe than sorry. The tube is small and fit into my handbag no problem. The Sun Film gel incorporates specialised anti-oxidant protection which is unique to the Juliet Armand sun protection range.

ANTIOXIDANT PROTECTION

The Sun Film Gel 30 goes a long way and retails for R465 for 55ml and is available at selected stockists nationwide, please contact Poise Brands to find out one near you. This has become my must-have product for our upcoming summer months, especially over December when everything goes on a go-slow, including my makeup routine.

Downsides to the product – my man refused to use my sun cream as it looks like makeup and well that resulted in one burnt travel buddy but that is not really my fault, I offered it and he refused 😉

Thank you Juliet Armand for saving my face from the Italian rays and making my holiday that little more pleasant by relieving me of sun burn issues! 🙂

Dermaceutic Sun Ceutic

DERMACEUTICLooking at sunscreens on offer can be daunting. What do you need to look for when choosing the correct sunscreen for your specific needs? This needs to be addressed on an individual needs basis and the one I’m eyeing recently for an upcoming trip to Italy is yet another Dermaceutic product, this time in their Protect range. Sun Ceutic 50, this sunscreen lives up to the promise of all Dermaceutic products and boasts the fact that it is safe to be used after chemical peels, laser treatments, cosmetic surgery and injecitons. All of which have a high intensity of treatment on the skin and makes the skin vulnerable and prone to pigmentation if the correct protection is not applied to the skin when exposed to the suns damaging UVA and UVB rays. Regardless of the fact of whether you have had any skin procedures the sun rays can also cause fine lines, wrinkles and there is truly nothing worse than sunburn so skin needs lots of protection from the elements.

I have yet to try the product but as having such successful results from Dermaceutic The Stimulating Night Cream and Dermaceutic Regen Ceutic (review to follow soon).

The Dermaceutic active key ingridients in the Sun Ceutic include:

Zinc Oxide

Promoting healing of skin, also has some antiseptic properties.

Titanium dioxide

A physical suncreen that reflects UV light before it can damage skin. Reducing the risk of sunburn which are associated with increased risk of melanoma (the deadliest form of skin cancer).

Hyaluronic Acid 1%

This is naturally produced by the body and the average human has approximately 15 grams of hyaluronan in the body, one-third which is “turned over” every day. Because of it occuring naturally in the body it has to be one of the most interesting ingredients in skin care, by adding some extra into your skincare routine the additonal hyaluronic acid secures moisture and creates fullness – resulting in naturally youthful fuller skin.

Aloe Vera

Benefits of Aloe Vera are not just old wives tales, its healing qualities along with soothing qualities make it one of the best ingridients for sensitve skin to build a strong barrier function and sooth aggrivated and dry skin.

30ml sells for R400 and is available from seleced Clinics and Salons, for a stockist near you please contact Conquest.

Juliette Armand’s mission is quite unique.

“Time does not stop, however it may be slowed down. This is exactly what our mission is, to make time elapse on the skin at a lower rate.”

Don’t shop their products by skin type but by skin mood. This is a unique concept which makes sense if you think about it. Do you really need to define what ‘skin type’ you fall into for life when there are various other items to take into account when choosing the correct products for you as they need to suit the season of life you’re in. If you too are as intrigued about this brand as I am, then watch this space for a review of their Skin Booster OPSIS THERAPY – Eye Brightening Gel which I have had the pleasure to try.

lamelle : Nourish Multi Active Sun 30 Review

Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post however this product was sent to me for reviewing purposes. This has not altered my view on the products in anyway.

Have you heard about lamelle? lamelle Research Laboratories are cosmetic dermatology researchers who create products in South Africa specifically for South Africans and South African skin concerns.

LAMELLE_LOGO

They have various ranges, and the one I have been testing is called Nourish. I tried to explain this, but once I read over it I had even confused myself, it involves free radicals and electrons and lots of science stuff, so before I confuse you I thought I will be better to share with you how their website describes The Nourish range:

“Did you know that free radicals are atoms or molecules that have one or more unpaired electrons making them ‘reactive’ with other atoms or molecules creating cellular injury? When the free radical molecule involves oxygen, we call it a REACTIVE OXYGEN SPECIES (ROS). ROS is a free radical.

Free radical production can be attributed to the following:

•The production of energy from the food we eat is a source of free radicals.

•2-5% of the oxygen we breathe is converted to Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) free radicals. In other words even at rest, we are producing ROS.

•The more oxygen we consume, the greater the amount of ROS we produce. This is especially true in athletes or people with a more active lifestyle.

The body has several antioxidants to combat these Reactive Oxygen Species. An anti-oxidant is a vital molecule that has the ability to deactivate ROS.

Lamelle Research Laboratories offers the most comprehensive free radical protection system against free radical damage.

The Nourish range offers the following benefits:

•Significant reduction in free radical injury,

•Reduction of premature photoageing,

•Preservation of the skin immune response

•Restoration of the natural skin antioxidant defence systems.”

I have been sent the Multi Active Sun 30 from lamelle’s Nourish range which is a sun cream.

PROS

First impressions of the product is that the packaging is minimalist. The colour of the cream is a light beige, not white like lots of sun creams, I assume this helps not making the product have that striking white suncream effect which a lot of other products do. The concentration of sun cream initially is thick but this absorbs into the skin in little-to-no time at all. Once the product is absorbed into the skin there is no glossy appearance to the skin. There is a slight “sun cream scent” but it is not overpowering and once worn for a few minutes seems to disappear completely. The concentrations of the product contains Pycnogenol which is significantly proven to reduce free radical formation, just like the other products in the Nourish range.

CONS

Multi Active Sun 30 is not waterproof, and as such needs to be reapplied to the skin after sweating and/or exposure to water. You need to use quite a lot of product in one go, I assume this can be reduced however this would then reduce the amount of skin protection you receive making the product redundant.

The price is slightly off-putting at first – R351.00 for 70ml. It is not a lot of product but the consistency of the product and the results it gives really makes it worth the price in my eyes.

It is advised that if you get sunburnt that the Multi-Active Sun 30 will work hand in hand with the Nourish Rescue Repair Gel if burning occurs to the skin.

Would I purchase this product again? Yes.

Would I reccommend this product? Yes – especially to people worried about free radicals or cellular injury.

Rating? As far as sun products go, one can only do so much before exhausting the true purpose and meaning of sun protection and therefore I give this product a 8/10 ( a real pity about the non-waterproof).
