Model Citizen

Jeremy-MeeksA few weeks back a lot of the women on the internet were going all googly-eyed over Jeremy Meeks for apparently being the hottest fellon in the world after his mugshot was posted on the police station’s Facebook page following his arrest and it went viral. He was even known as “Hot Mugshot Guy” and trended on Twitter. In the past few days he has reportedly been offered a $30,000 (US Dollars not Zim Dollars) modelling contract. This does seem to be a matter of debate with no actual clarification from whom the modelling contract was offered, but even so its got chins wagging and I cant stop shaking my head. A lot of ladies are eagerly hoping this is in fact true in the hopes of doing what? Looking at headshots of Jeremy without a prison jumpsuit? Le sigh.

Well, that is suprising. Or is it? The internet seems to have a habit of making people famous that do not deserve the fame. Can we kindly cast a blind eye to someone that has committed a crime and get on with our lives? – rather than saying “Hey Mr. Meeks, you’re a naughty boy for commiting *insert whatever crime he was arrested for here* but because the general population of women on the intenet think you’re attractive we would like to use you to sell some products!”. Pfft.  The answer seems to be no.Jeremy Meeks Gucci Inspiration

South Africa, Shit Service is Not Acceptable

Hell hath no fury like a Fi scorned.

It seems to be happening ALL to often to me lately, and seriously, I cannot understand how big corporate companies can get away with acting like douche bags and leaving the customer, or in this case, myself in the dark.

If its not one “service provider” its another, and I’m actually getting fed up. I know, its South Africa, shit service doesn’t bother people as much as it bothers me. My reason for being upset is simply this: I paid you for a service, you are not delivering said service to me, how is it ethical for you to take my money (and constantly take it from me on monthly basis) without you at least answering my question. This relates to a few different industries currently and is not aimed specifically at one. I am at my wits end at the moment.

I think you’re lucky if you haven’t ever experienced an hour long phone call with a customer service representative only to experience a dropped call; being transferred and cut off; being told “eish, email this person“; being bounced from department to department when you finally cannot take that stupid interlude tone; and you are just as, if not more, in the dark about your query that started in the first place.

Just think about it, if you are a freelance photographer, or a freelance makeup artist, you get paid for your services, you give a product/service back in return. Just imagine how you would get taken to the cleaners if you bounced your clients around from left to right, in order to get their images, or go and do their makeup? I am aware that this happens, however, I am talking about real professionals not fly-by-night “pro togs” or “pro MUAs”. One thing is for certain, if you don’t deliver, as a freelancer, you do not get paid the full amount, quite simple. Effective.

However, when one is dealing with big corporate companies, the left pinky has no idea what the right earlobe is up to and vice versa, then they bring in the call center which is just the big toe nail of the entire endeavour and it simply drives the consumer nuts. Today, right now, that consumer is me.

How can you actively retaliate bad service? On a serious note: The Consumer Protection Act was brought in order to assist the customer on the street have their rights protected. I won’t go into much detail on the CPA, unless anyone is actually interested, as I’ve studied in quite in depth and I’m writing an exam on it next month… *squeal of terror*.

Yes, everyone’s answer is now, “oh put it on their Facebook page”, “Tweet about it”, blah blah blah, all those social media ways of communicating have an option to delete the posts they really don’t want the public to see anyway, and to be quite honest, I do not want to have to resort to be THAT person (apologies if you are, I just prefer a more direct approach and solution). While doing some research on the CPA, after a horrendous hour and a half phone call to a certain SHIT company, who I will be reporting to the CPA 🙂 – I happened to come across these images, which are both sad – for the person doing the retaliation and entertaining that they would go to such lengths in order to make their unhappiness towards said company/product/service known to the general public.

Dave Carroll, was travelling with his band members is 2008 and witnessed United Airlines handlers throwing his $3,500 Taylor guitar. The guitar obviously ended up severely damaged and he pursued the airline for payment, which he was denied. As a result he wrote and produced three YouTube music videos about his shit experience, he has since written a book and embarked on a tour and created his own customer complaint site.

Yes, this post had absolutely no sparkles, no glitter, no makeup, no gossip or no beauty but you know what? It was informative, kind of, not really, but anyway, at least you know what I’ve been doing today. Let’s just say, I am not quite at the point of producing my own YouTube music videos, but I felt like it earlier.

Happy thoughts…. and breathe!

WHY VALENTINE’S DAY IS NO EXCUSE TO BE BITTER

6-WEB_AD_BUS_LOVESTINKS_2009
Hiya Poutlings

I had an interesting conversation with one of my recently-single friends last night and we got talking about Valentines Day! She was obviously very bitter about it, but then I think/hope I put some of it into perspective for her. Now, this “holiday” has been thrown way out of perspective. It’s a silly holiday, you don’t need to give into the external pressures of it and you also do not need to be super grumpy about it either.

Case in point: I am in a happy relationship – we don’t really do the Valentines day thing that the media portrays, I would much rather have LOVE expressed every day or on any other day, yes, a silly little chocolate/real (not plastic) flower or something never goes a miss even on Valentines day, however, huge elaborate gifts on Valentines day can be OTT. Even, me, in my relationship have received at least 5 emails daily to tell me to send flowers, send my loved one for a massage, silly stupid gifts ideas, etc. I REALLY DO NOT NEED TO SEND MY BOYFRIEND FLOWERS… but thank you for trying to market that to me.

Valentine’s Day, really should be no different than any other day! Really… In my opinion……however it should never be used for the following:

1. To throw a pity party – YOU may be single and bitter, or coupled and bitter, or divorced and bitter. You have have good reason to be terribly, terribly bitter about love. I am not taking that away from you. But Valentine’s Day does not give you carte blanche to feel sorry for yourself. You do not get to sulk. Or be mean to your co-worker because they got a flower delivery. Or be a general pitiful piece of shit all day because you are not getting any flowers.

2. To contact your ex – I urge you NOT to contact any form of your exes on Valentine’s Day. Due to the external pressure I mentioned earlier, it’s heavy pressure. I’m not saying you should never contact your ex, but if you really want to, sleep on it for a whole week and contact them on 21st of February, when all the chocolate is on sale.

3. To go on an emotional bender – You might be feeling lonely, or reflecting on why you do not have romantic love in your life, or possibly even mourning a love that was lost. That is perfectly fine and normal. Do not let it get you down a rabbit hole of catastrophic thinking. You start with IT WOULD OF BEEN REALLY NICE TO GET FLOWERS and before you know it you’re at WHO’S GOING TO BE THERE FOR ME HOLDING MY HAND WHEN I DIE? Come on, now. No need to spiral out of control, indulging in feeling lonely on Valentine’s Day never really leads anywhere productive. Instead, challenge yourself to think more productive thoughts like WHAT ARE SOME THINGS I CAN DO TO BE MORE OPEN TO LOVE IN MY LIFE THIS YEAR? or LET ME REMIND MYSELF WHY THE EX AND I DIDN’T WORK OUT.

4. To test the person you are dating – Valentine’s Day is not a test to see how much the person you’re dating cares about you. There is no report at the end of the night. If there’s something you want to do celebrate, don’t wait for someone else to plan it. The people we date aren’t waiting around all year to make our magical Valentine’s Day fantasies happen.

5. To DEMAND an expensive gift – If the person you’re dating has the funds to buy you an opulent gift, like any of the gifts Sandylashxx mentioned in her last post, and happens to do so from the bottom of his/her heart, then consider yourself EXTREMELY lucky. If the person you are dating does not have the funds to buy you a mini pony wiht a diamond collar, so what? It doesn’t mean they love you any less. Don’t be that person who makes the holiday about all material gain. And please, dear God, don’t use Valentine’s Day as an excuse to push for an engagement ring, unless the time really is right for you two.

6. To internet stalk – Getting on Facebook/Twitter/Google and looking at pictures of your ex(es) and his or her new love is always a bad idea in my opinion… but if this is an activity that you’re not ready to give up, fine. Just abstain for 24 hours.

7. to sign up to an online dating site – PLEASE by all means, feel free to sign up for online dating. But do not do it the week of Valentine’s day. No need to get desperate, looking for a date, any date come February 11th.

Moral of the story: we all need to learn that being alone is NOT  bad thing. It’s a thing that everyone needs to learn to do at one point or another in life. If that doesn’t motivate you, remember that there is no lonlier feeling than spending Valentine’s Day with someone you don’t care for.

#ImDreamingOf … Illamasqua… or NOT.

illamasqua

British beauty brand Illamasqua, which I love by the way, but not right now, offers this week’s racist blunder :  the above advert, featuring the holiday themed hashtag #ImDreamingOf, the slogan I’M NOT DREAMING OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS, and the slogan’s implication… a person in blackface. Presumably, this was not looked over by anyone before landing on Facebook.

The image sparked an immediate outcray in the comment thread and the post has been subsequently removed. If you visit their Facebook page now, you’ll see neither the image nor an apology.

Since this is a post on blackface, I’d like to preemtively welcome the 2-5% of new commenters who happen to appear out of the woodwork everytime we post something racist and insist that the offending this is, in fact, not racist, and we (Pout Perfection, feminists, women, South African’s, housewives, everywhere) do not condone this advert.

When will everyone everywhere finally catch on to the fact that blackface is never, under any circumstances, a good idea.
