Victoria Beckahm Graces The Cover of Vogue

Vicky Beckham looks as stylish as always as she appears on the cover of Vogue Australia September 2013. The designer dishes on her husband, David, what its like to Vicky B and her everyday life and her first fashion collection presentation.

Vogue Australia Cover September 2013

“Everyone would file in and act so inscrutable. I’d think, ‘Um, did anyone like it?’ No one would say anything, so I’d gabble to fill the embarrassing silence – even to the Japanese, who didn’t understand a word I was saying.”

Well, despite the silence to begin with Victoria has been given the ultimate praise from celebrities who have chosen to wear her designs. The ten piece line of midi length dresses was fit for businesswomen as well as A-listers and would take the wearers from day to night. From then on she made it clear that she is not going to stop anytime soon presenting one collection after another in New York every season and gaining an extensive clientele.Vogue China Cover June 2013

She also appeared on the cover of Vogue China in August 2013 and scooped The Glamour Women of the Year award in Jyne. She’s launched an e-commerce site with the Icon collection and a new pre-fall 2013 line of handbags. Besides the business she has also got herself the cutest bulldog, called Coco Beckham.

Can this woman do no wrong in my eyes? Yes! But, just look at her! Aah, *swoon* I think the latest glossy covers show her maturity, but she looks elegant.

Helena Bonham Carter on the Cover of Vogue UK

Hiya Poutlings

Vogue UK have dedicated their July 2013 issue to Ageless style, which as stated by them “celebrates women who possess a distinctive style that transcends age.”

Helena Bonham Carter on the cover of Vogue - Ageless Style Issue

Helena Bonham Carter on the cover of Vogue – Ageless Style Issue

Helena Bonham Carter is on the cover, and in my eyes this woman can really do no wrong, not only is she simply gorgeous, she encapsulates everything that “ageless style” means to me. She wears a Ralph Lauren dress and an Agent Provacteur corset while her hair is untypically sleeked back and decorated with a feather head piece. How beautiful, albeit, slightly over retouched does she look?

Helena has always drawn attention, not only to her roles but her quirky styles. Everything about her is extravagant with the tousled locks to tattered, corseted, and draped dresses to eye-catchy accessories. Regardless of being a regular on various worst-dressed lists she always stay true to her style and even got a fashion gig in 2011 with Marc Jacobs.

The photo shoot was shot by the famous fashion duo Mert & Marcus, and is mostly in black and white showing Helena in corsets and dramatic hats. The styling is quite reflective of Helena’s style and is yet very refined. In the interview she speaks of learning from her various roles about being a mother, actress and a wife to husband, Tim Burton.

“The research is what I get off on. My mom is a psychologist and I’m very similar to her. I love the challenge of working a character out. Ultimately, I don’t agree to do a film because I think it’s going to be a success. I do it because I think I’m going to learn something from the character I’m playing. I’m not sure what yet, but I know I’m going to learn something from Elizabeth [Taylor]. I know that, somehow, I’m going to grow as a soul from playing her.”

Kate Upton covers USA Vogue June Cover 2013

kate-upton-vogue-june-2013-2Hiya Poutlings!

Kate Upton is not your typical Vogue candidate, however she has managed to make her first  Vogue USA cover. She is styled as Kate normally is, in swimwear… but this time with a retro feel.

kate-upton-vogue-june-2013-4

Sources close to Kate revealed that it wasn’t only due to the way she looks but also her rising popularity and blasting media personality of late which elected her to be chosen for the cover.

“I didn’t buy the magazine that had models on the covers, because I didn’t know them. So I think it kind of gives me, as a model, a personality that people can connect with.

You sit there and you’re like ‘Is something wrong with me?’. The things that they’re rejecting are things that I can’t change. I can’t change my bra size. They’re natural! I can work out and I can stay healthy and motivated, but I can’t change some things. I really just live my life. I love my body. It’s what God gave me! I feel confident with my myself, and if that inspires other women to feel confident with their bodies, great.”

Kate’s made a few appearances in the Vogue family of magazines and as she steadily moves towards being a more rounded, well known model. However, she knows she is not a size-zero model of the present times and addresses this quite well in my opinion. It helps also having a sense of humour about it too. She appears to be enjoying life, and well, she should.

Kate is well loved by fashion designers like Michael Kors, who enjoys that she has a “healthy shape” and reminisces about the era when modelling was much healthier.

kate-upton-vogue-june-2013-5

This editorial is fabulous and I’m pretty sure she is proud of her achievement of finally landing a Vogue US cover.

What do you think about Kate Upton’s US Vogue editorial?

Let me know!

Style Watch : Adele

adele style

At a glance, its hard to recognise an awkward 20 year old back in 2008 when she got a chance to record her first ever album, is in fact, the powerful women that Adele is today.

Adele-style

Now, Adele is turning 25 is very well known not only in her home country but all across the world, for her powerful voice and distinguishable style.

adele - brit awards

She recorded her first album in 2008, which was entitled simply “19” and that was the time she started to appear in the public eye a lot. That is when her style preferences began to emerge, The shy girl in the formless clothes started to appear at events, such as the Brit Awards (where she won the Critics’ Choice Award), H&M Regent street store, London and Shepherds Bush Empire, London. coming to more feminine pieces, her body also began to change.

Adele-styleee

In 2009, she wears a chartreuse satin coat by Barbara Tfank, to attend the 51st Annual Grammy Awards, Los Angeles. She looks confident in that bright outfit. Then again she has shown up in public wearing Barbara Tfank, this time it was a custom made black-satin dress.

Adele-style2

AdeleIn 2010 her style started to resemble her current look, as she appeared in a vintage black and gold brocade dress at the CMT Artists of the Year awards in Franklin, Tenessee. As time passed, her style progresses and in 2011, we saw her wearing a Burberry dress at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she won three awards. She once confessed to US Vogue that:

“From twelve to thirteen I was a grunger. then I got really into R&B and became a rude girl – in Addidas, with a spit curl… and tiny Nike backpacks.”

So, having this as a background, it is really weird to relate to that girl in Nikes to the woman, Adele is nowadays. Because today she is more likely to be seen “with her favourite Jimmy Choo Rosabel bag, or in Vivienne Westwood or Aquascutum, although she still confesses to loving Marks and Spencer jeans”, as mentioned by Vogue UK.

Now finally, into the previous year of 2012, she has appeared looking rather slim comparing to her previous looks wearing custom made Giorgio Armani sequin gown, accessorised with a Harry Winston ring, De Beers earrings and Christian Loubutin heels during the Grammy Awards, where she won six awards! At the latest Golden Globe awards, which had been her first public appearance since giving birth to her son, Adele was wearing Burberry. Certainly, we see there is something different about her now, as she has shared her beauty and talent with the world.

So, what do you think – has her style evolved?

Models-Turned-Designers : My Top 10

Hi Poutlings

Model-turned-designer is not a new phenomenon, on the opposite there are more models who turn to brands to expose their horizons and give their followers something (clothes, jewellery or shoooooes) designed in their signature style. Some may argue that it’s a disdain for true skill and craft of a designer, others would agree that some models bring their own unique vision into collection.

ANJA RUBIK

One of the most recent collaboration collections was designed by Anja Rubik, who I’ve previously blogged on before, along with Giuseppe Zanotti. The model and designer shared their “skills and ideas” in Giuseppe’s brand creating a 6-style footwear line and a handbag. The collection turned out beautiful as it often happens, Anja modeled the entire line herself.

This is not the first of Anja’s designer endeavors though as she already had an experience creating an accessory collection for Quazi in 2011.

ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY

Rose Huntington-Whiteley expressed her desire to design on more than one ocassion but thanks to retailer Marks & Spencer and its lingerie department head Soozie Jenkinson, Rosie’s dream came true and she already launched her second lingerie line with the store. The line is full of pink sets, robes and babydolls.

Rosie also expressed a desire to do some “designing” in five or ten years and wants to have jewellery, lingerie and cashmere lines. Well, she’s got one of them already.

HELENA CHRISTENSEN

Helena Christensen is an original supermodel who has been on numerous magazine covers and in ad campaigns but she also tried her hand at design when she created a lingerie line for Triumph. the line included some printed pieces, sexy lace tops and black strappy styles.

Now Christensen has got her eyes on a bag line she is set to launch in September with Belgium bag brand Kipling. the collection will include eleven styles and focus on floral print.

IMAN

Supermodel I”man is true style and fashion icon so it’s no wonder she has her own fashion line. Launched in 2011 with HSN Globalc Chic is a line of statement jewellery and accessories at affordable prices.

Iman thinks that jewellery and accessories add a lot more to the outfit and thus without them one “can never be fully dressed”.

NATALIA VODIANOVA

Natalia Vodianova just recently launched her second footwear collection with the Russian shoe brand Centro. The model designed the classic pumps to raise money for her charity Naked Heart Foundation.

The model has also been given an oppurtunity to design heer own lingerie colections at Etam in 2009, which she used quite successfully.

LILY ALDRIDGE

Victoira’s Secret Angel, Lily Aldridge has just recently designed a thirteen-piece collection with Velvet by Graham & Spencer. The model was asked to do a line after working ten years with the brand,

The line consists of dresses, casual tops and a military style jacket that can easily be introduced into a basic summer wardrobe.

GISELE BUNDCHEN

Gisele Bundchen created a whole empire with all the lingerie, footwear, clothing and beauty lines she launched. The world’s richest supermodel has an iPANEMA Gisele Bundchen sandal line, Gisele Bundchen Brazillian Intimates lingerie brand, and a beauty line under her belt.

But that’s not all she’s done. The model designed a clothing line with a Dutch retailer C&A in 2011 that included dresses, cropped blazers and other items.

SOPHIE DAHL

Sophie Dahl is another model who tried her hand in design. She created a line with a cashmere brand Brora, which consists of thirteen pieces like a tea dress, cardigans, camisole and others.

Besides her modelling career, Sophie Dahl has written for fashion magazines like US and UK Vogues, Harpers Bazaar and such editorials like The Sunday Times, The Observer and The Guardian.

KATE MOSS

Kate Moss for Topshop Final Collection, Fall 2010

Kate Moss has been collaborating with Topshop for three years producing 14 collections in total from 2007 to 2010. Her lines included numerous minidresses and jackets. She released he last collection in 2010 along with Kate Iconic, a capsule line of her most popular designs.

Moss’ designs reflected the models style – a mix of grunge and boho chi – but there were also collections in nontypical for model floral prints and more feminine styles.

GEORGIA MAY JAGGER

Georgia May Jagger launches Hudson by Georgia May collection at Neiman Marcus

Georgia May Jagger tried herself in denim design when she created a line for Hudson Jeans. The model designed a twenty-piece collection with a different cut that the usual Hudson jeans taking inspiration from her mom’s vintage jeans.

So… should models turn into designers? Do you think they do any of the actual design work or just tell the real designers, “THAT’S NICE… I’LL PUT A RING ON IT, MY NAME ON IT”… ? Is it just another money making raquet, like the fragrance market? Does it mean something else? Am I missing the point? Must I stop asking so many questions?
