Gloss Nail and Beauty

Gloss LogoSalons, truly are my absolute guilty pleasure and one of favourite places to visit. I was recently treated to the most divine pedicure on my recent trip to the “City of Gold” at the gorgeous Gloss Nail and Beauty Salon in the Birdhaven area in Johannesburg area. Upon arriving at the tranquil Gloss Nail and Beauty Salon, one cannot help but be mesmerised by the beauty of the boutique salon, as it simplistic but oh so fantastic. White and grey colours adorn the salon walls and floor which echoes the epitome of tranquillity. Gloss Nail and Beauty Gloss Nail and Beauty

The staff are welcoming and make sure you feel at home, not to mention really knowing their way around an amazing pedicure! The pedicure I was spoiled to made use of the most premium products, including the heavenly Liquid Yoga as part of the amazing concoction for my foot soak as well as numerous OPI products and the polish I had for my toes was an OPI polish from their Brazilian range. Further to their nail treatments, Gloss also offers a number of body and facial treatments – including the state of the art St Tropez spray booth. This tan is revolutionary as it eliminates the smell and fumes of fake tan so you leave with a sun kissed glow and no smell of a bottled tan in sight. The facial treatments make use of Dermalogica which one can never go wrong with.

You cannot help leave with a smile on your face at the end of your treatment and walk away with feeling pampered and so relaxed.

Thank you for the spoils Gloss, I will be sure to be back when I’m in the area.

If you’re in the area, be sure to book an appointment. Gloss Nail and Beauty is situated at Shop 3, Birdhaven Centre, 66 St. Andrews Road, Birdhaven or call them on (011) 447-9273 for more information.

Guest Contribution : Picking the Perfect Pearls for your Dress

Whilst weddings are a momentous and joyous occasion, one that you have probably envisaged since you were a little girl, the run-up can be stressful, time-consuming, even all-consuming!  Whilst there is enormous amounts of preparations, organisation, guest politics, who to invite, who’s vegetarian? coeliac? gluten-free? – you get the point! – Relieve some of the pressure with these stunning jewels which are guaranteed to pull your wedding attire together and ensure your day goes smoothly (well in the looks department at least!)

Yes it is a given that the wedding dress plays a huge factor in the bride’s overall look but coming in a close second is her choice of jewellery as this can either make or break a look.  Whilst there is a whole treasure trove of choice, one of the most popular of all jewels are still pearls.

Pearls have retained their status as the go-to wedding jewel as they have a perennial elegance that never looks dated.  Pearls can be worn with modern dresses or more traditional designs.  These lustrous, highly versatile beauties are one of the few gemstones which appeal to all generations.

Most brides are interested in achieving a highly sophisticated look which oozes understated glamour and this is easily achievable with pearl jewellery.

TraditionalTraditional

If you are opting for a traditional dress with a fitted and bodice with a flowing, ball gown-esque skirt then a classic pearl necklace is the perfect option to create harmony throughout your look and pull everything together.  Choose a bridal pearl necklace from Winterson made with the finest cultured saltwater Akoya pearls for a look that exudes luxury, glamour and ultimately sophistication.  These pearls, traditionally cultured in Japan, should be round, with a sharp lustre and pinky white colour. Sitting just below the collarbone, the length of this necklace will bring the focus to your face whilst creating a demure and ethereal aura around you.

 ModernModern

If you have decided on a more modern, slinky and ‘bodycon’ dress, then I would suggest a simple pearl pendant.  A luxurious white South Sea pearl and diamond pendant necklace will perfectly balance out your wedding look but will not detract from the dress.  With a silky lustre which radiates beauty, there is little wonder why pearls are the wedding jewel of choice.  This exquisite piece (featured below) also features a dazzling diamond set above the pearl to add to the luxury of this pendant.  This piece will not only see through your wedding day in style, but will also become a firm favourite in your jewellery wardrobe.

BohemianBohemian

For the romantic, slightly quirky, bohemian bride, choose freshwater coin pearls.  These type of pearls have a distinctive, slightly irregular and jaunty, baroque shape.  Each pearl is unique thus creating a carefree, laidback look rather than a more traditional, polished style.  If this is the look you are trying to pull off then this White Freshwater Coin Pearl Bracelet would look stunning on the wrist of any lace-clad, billowy-sleeved bride.

Blingy Bathrooms at Ridiculous Prices

Hi Poutlings!

After splurging that last pay cheque on your hubby for his custom made $91,500 [R869,200] crocodile t-shirt, why not start on some interior decorating, to match your million rand manicure for the house with all your left over change?

Catchpole & Rye are the only bathroom company who manufacture exclusively in England and the latest talk of town piece, the claw footed bejewelled bath tub with four different types of Swarovski crystals which are used to obtain the uniform effect is made in their Kent foundry using only traditional methods and employing artisan techniques in every part of the process.

If the white crystals are not your cup of tea, Catchpole & Rye will gladly customise the tub for you, on offer they have different shades of Swarovski crystals including gold, blue and green. Incorporated in the layers of Swarovski, names can be spelt out or crests and logos in different coloured crystals.

Tony O’Donnell the managing director of Catchpole & Rye defends the undeniable exorbitant price on the bath:

“It was to do something exotic. We did a job for a princess in the middle east and se was very much into her bling, and that’s where the idea stems from. If you have the money, you want the bath, then the price isn’t the issue. There is a huge amount of work that goes into it, hundreds of hours, it’s all English craftsmanship. It’s a one off; where else are you going to see another one like it?”

If you are in the area, its on show in the Catchpole & Rye showroom in Kent, and of course, is available to buy from Harrods.

While you’re upgrading your ‘tub, how about the rest of the bathroom as surely Bathroom Bizarre will not cut it next to this one of a kind bath? Get your paws on a golden plated sink with crystals on the taps, or, better yet, a Swarovski studded toilet.

The Isis Collection

The Isis Collection

The Isis collection by designer Jemal Wright of Hollywood features blinged out bathroom fixtures including a glittering toilet which will set you back $75,00 [R675,000]. Do not forget the little people in your life – get a My Carry Potty which allows them to join in on the bling-loo-craze from an early age which would only set you back £700 [R9,800].

So, who is thinking of a little bit of DIY and blinging up their bathrooms in this weekend? Oh, I do joke, if you have this money to spend on doing your bathroom up then, you will surely move away to your holiday home elsewhere while there are people, you employ to do all the DIY in your home. 😉

However, if you are wondering, I have not yet figured out how I am going to pay for my bathtub just yet, but I shall find a way. It has to be the most ostentatious way possible to relax and unwind after a long day. Who wants to lend me some money?

Vivienne Westwood and Cartoon Faces

Legendary punk designer Vivienne Westwood has a flair for the colourful, the dramatic, the outlandish, the shocking, the absurd… but certainly not the tame. Nor the shy, for that matter everything Vivienne touches, from her flaming orange hair to her punk-infused collections, is intended to MAKE A STATEMENT. It seems to be her mission objective.

Westward1Westward2westward3

For her latest venture, the Autum 2013 show for her eponymous Red Label, at London Fashion Week, the British visionary sent models down the runway in what would be best described as… cartoon or comic makeup. Saturated primary colours, exaggerated outlines done in start black or white, and blanked out faces with airbrushed nails which resulted in a look that was very unique. This is a Look with a capital “L” that should not be attemped off the catwalk, but as for on it? It was a hit – and it provided the perfect foil for Vivienne’s soft metallics and loose, lovely grunge-girl knits.

Brightest White

Hi again Pout Perfections;

There’s a trend this season that makes me sad. I’m the type of girl who simply CANNOT wear white. I’m the type of girl who could so much as look at a white piece of clothing and it goes dirty. It’s terrible, because white is absolutely radiant.

This season, white has gone to a whole new extreme. The more white you wear, the better! I do not, however, recommend that you wear white if you turn anything white, dirty or have painfully pale skin as it just won’t work.

Team your pretty white outfit with some dramatic makeup or killer black heels to give your it an “edgy” look or team it with a soft pink bag and pretty chains for a more feminine vibe.

Peace and love xoxox
