Dermaceutic Sun Ceutic

DERMACEUTICLooking at sunscreens on offer can be daunting. What do you need to look for when choosing the correct sunscreen for your specific needs? This needs to be addressed on an individual needs basis and the one I’m eyeing recently for an upcoming trip to Italy is yet another Dermaceutic product, this time in their Protect range. Sun Ceutic 50, this sunscreen lives up to the promise of all Dermaceutic products and boasts the fact that it is safe to be used after chemical peels, laser treatments, cosmetic surgery and injecitons. All of which have a high intensity of treatment on the skin and makes the skin vulnerable and prone to pigmentation if the correct protection is not applied to the skin when exposed to the suns damaging UVA and UVB rays. Regardless of the fact of whether you have had any skin procedures the sun rays can also cause fine lines, wrinkles and there is truly nothing worse than sunburn so skin needs lots of protection from the elements.

I have yet to try the product but as having such successful results from Dermaceutic The Stimulating Night Cream and Dermaceutic Regen Ceutic (review to follow soon).

The Dermaceutic active key ingridients in the Sun Ceutic include:

Zinc Oxide

Promoting healing of skin, also has some antiseptic properties.

Titanium dioxide

A physical suncreen that reflects UV light before it can damage skin. Reducing the risk of sunburn which are associated with increased risk of melanoma (the deadliest form of skin cancer).

Hyaluronic Acid 1%

This is naturally produced by the body and the average human has approximately 15 grams of hyaluronan in the body, one-third which is “turned over” every day. Because of it occuring naturally in the body it has to be one of the most interesting ingredients in skin care, by adding some extra into your skincare routine the additonal hyaluronic acid secures moisture and creates fullness – resulting in naturally youthful fuller skin.

Aloe Vera

Benefits of Aloe Vera are not just old wives tales, its healing qualities along with soothing qualities make it one of the best ingridients for sensitve skin to build a strong barrier function and sooth aggrivated and dry skin.

30ml sells for R400 and is available from seleced Clinics and Salons, for a stockist near you please contact Conquest.

Dermalogica BioSurface Peel

A few weeks ago I attended the launch of a new innovative treatment offered by my go-to skin solution…. Dermalogica. The BioSurface Peel which is only launching nationwide from September at Dermalogica Concept Store as BioSurfacewell as selected salons. As far as Dermalogica’s brand and philosophy goes, I was quite surprised to hear about them offering a chemical peel, as chemical peeling is quite an aggressive (but effective) solution to smoother, healthier and radiant skin. That being said though, because its Dermalogica, it is an incredibly refreshing take on peeling as its formulated with the most up to date technology available which minimises the downtime (if any) following a peel.

“Today’s woman is time-deprived, but still cares greatly about her skin health and wants results. Since Dermalogica launched more than 25 years ago, its mission has always been to set the industry standard and provide its tribe of professional skin care therapists with the most cutting edge products and treatments so they are best equipped to meet the demands of today’s consumers. The new BioSurface™ Peel will provide consumers with the results they desire without any recovery downtime.” Diana Howard, VP of Research and Development and Global Education for Dermalogica and The Internation Dermal Institute.

The steps involved in the BioSurface Peel.

  1. The skin is prepared using the Prep solution.
  2. The enzyme active is applied to the skin
  3. The acid active + is applied on top of the enzyme active.
  4. The de-celerator is applied to neutralise the acid in order to bring the skin back to the correct pH level.

The BioSurface Peel is for professional use only and not for home use. Dermalogica want to ensure the safety of your skin by entrusting it with a qualified and confident skin therapist to perform the peels. It is an express 3 step treatment and which will only take a few minutes out of your busy schedule – perfect for a lunch time or after work stop – which unlike facials require a minimum of 45mins and try to relax you. A few minutes and 4 steps for to resurface your face sounds like time well spent. So how does it work? BioSurface Peel

As the treatment is designed to work in synthesis of your skin’s chemistry and not against it, the peel safely and effectively removes dull outer layers of skin and helps the skin underneath regenerate for a smooth, radiant complexion. Immediately after the peel skin may feel red or flushed and as your skin regenerates it is normal to experience dryness, redness, tightness and slight flaking within a week, this is normal as the skin is forcing itself to wake up again. These side-effects will quickly subside following the peel and it should be noted that true dedication is required to your skincare routine (although before going for one a suitable skincare regimine should already be in place) as the post peel skin care will dramatically impact the frequency and results of your peel.  The BioSurface Peel is an active biphasic peel which promises to smooth skin texture, address acne concerns for fewer breakouts, while reducing fine lines and fading pigmentation in the epidermis. It is suggested to try three treatments (6 weeks apart) to see the best results and followed up with maintenance treatments twice a year.

The suggested post peel at-home treatment is the Ultra-Calming Cleanser, broad-spectrum Super Sensitve Shield SPF30 and two nourishing moisturisers as well as AGE Smart Multivitimin Thermafoliant to help buff away any post-treatment peeling. For specific skincare concerns, speak to your Dermalogica skin therapist for a customised face mapping pre-and-post peel in order for the most effective results.

Why is it called BioSurface Peel? It is a resurfacing of the skin, much deeper than an exfoliation which results in the skin feeling smoother with no downtime and no scarring.

Roll on September, I can’t wait to try out the BioSurface Peel!

The recommended price for the BioSurface Peel is R690, but this may differ from centre to centre.

Guest Contribution : Multi-Tasking Moisturisers

We are all on a lifelong mission to achieve or maintain flawless skin.  As we are forever bombarded with the latest fad which promises to brighten, tighten, firm and hydrate, knowing which products to choose can seem daunting.

However, flawless skin doesn’t have to cost the world.  Achieving the perfect complexion requires well made products and a consistent, well honed skin care regime.  It needn’t be that complicated.  In fact, it should be the opposite! We don’t need hundreds of lotions and potions in order to have good skin.  That’s why I have wanted to share with you my top 5 multi-tasking moisturisers.

Best for Spots

Moisturising is one of the best ways to achieve that airbrushed look as well as keeping wrinkles at bay.  However if you are prone to spots, the last thing you want to do is slap more products on then and further aggravate your skin.  Opt for lightweight, oil-free moisturisers like Skyn Iceland’s Pure Pore Minimiser.  Designed with stressed out skin in mind, this miracle cream will decongest and detoxify tired, lacklustre skin.  MOISTURISER 01

Best for Wrinkles

Hydration is key when you want to target the signs of premature aging.  Prolong your youthful appearance and ward off the first signs of aging with Nuxe’s Nirvanesque range.  Their 1st Wrinkles Smoothing Emulsion not only soothes and relaxes skin but the revolutionary plant-based solution reduces fine lines and wrinkles.  MOISTURISER 02

Best All Rounder

If like me you juggle a busy lifestyle and are trying to withstand the stresses of everyday modern life with hormonal changes as well as banish the first signs of aging then I cannot recommend this Intensive Hydra Gel Moisturiser enough.  Made using natural active ingredients including vitamin E and collagen to give your skin a boost, this oil free moisturiser from Love Your Skin not only water-based meaning it is suitable for all skin types but will also give your skin an intensive moisturising and hydrating experience.  MOISTURISER 03

Guest Contribution : Sugar and Your Complexion: Why Sweet Treats Won’t Make You Look So Sweet

sugar and your skinTired of trying out expensive new creams and miracle elixirs that claim to make you look younger but seem to do little more than make your skin slightly softer? There’s a real solution to getting younger, healthier-looking skin, and it has nothing to do with the ingredients in a bottle. What you eat – and, specifically, what you don’t eat – can have a big impact on the look and feel of your skin.

Sugar, in particular, may be causing you to age more quickly than you actually are. Indulging in too many sweet treats can cause your skin to look dull, to sag, and to develop fine lines and wrinkles.

How Sugar is Ruining Your Skin

One of the primary reasons that sugar affects your skin is that is causes inflammation in the body. The inflammation can cause cellular breakdown, which can cause sagging and fine lines and wrinkles.

Sugar consumption can also cause spikes in blood sugar levels. When blood sugar levels rise too quickly, it can lead to a process known as glycation. During this process, sugar attaches itself to collagen and produces damaging byproducts that can undermine the elasticity of your skin. This process can make your skin appear dryer, thinner, and more rigid – all of which will make it appear older.

Not only does sugar damage the collagen you have, but it also affects the type of collagen you have. Glycation transforms the stable and longer-lasting collagen type into a weaker, more fragile type of collagen, which makes your skin more vulnerable to damages.

Choosing Healthier Alternatives

You don’t have to eat a lot of sugar to experience these harmful effects on your skin. The sugar in a single can of soda is enough to set off the chain of reactions that can age your skin. It’s important to cut out sugar as much as you can to improve the health of your skin.

Even if you can’t cut out sugar cold turkey, you can make healthier choices. Instead of white breads and pastas – which will cause the same spike in blood sugar as candy bars and cakes – choose whole-grain options. Instead of white potatoes, eat sweet potatoes or yams. Instead of chocolate, eat dark chocolate. Instead of candy, eat fruit.

cut sugar out for better looking skinYou can also protect your skin against the damages caused by sugar by consuming more antioxidants. Good sources are berries (blueberries, strawberries, cranberries), nuts, red bell peppers, and tea. Antioxidants fight free radicals that are caused by inflammation, helping to protect against cellular damage. Not only do they help fight against skin damage, but they also fight against disease and other chronic health conditions.

Don’t waste money on expensive moisturizers and wrinkle creams that claim to turn back the clock. Just focus on eating a healthy diet that’s free of sugar and high in healthy vegetables. You’ll look like you’ve had a face lift without ever going under the knife.

Product Review ~ Carita Progressif Anti-Age Pearl of Youth for Lips

Hello pretty poutlings!

So today under my spotlight is Carita Progressif Anti-Age Pearl of Youth for Lips  which I received in my November Rubybox

This product sells for R610 for 15ml

So we all love French products, but I just couldn’t get my head, or lips, wrapped around this one.

This is a beautifying anti-ageing emulsion that nourishes the lips and helps repair them while smoothing out fine lines. This volumising  peptide restores your lips youthfulness leaving them young and plump and sassy and soft and moisturised again.

Use it twice a day, in the morning and evening on clean dry lips.

This product does contain Pearl powder extract, phytokine ( A soy extract which rebuilds the dermis), anti-glycation peptides, bio-hyaluronate de sodium, volumising peptide, pink pearlescent pigments and plum oil. Although it’s a perfectly light pink color, I just couldn’t get used to the grainy feel of the product. Whether it is the pearl powder or something else, the grainy feel on my lips just drove me absolutely insane.

My suggestion, visit your nearest beauty counter and get a trial or sample size of this product before you decide to buy it.

Have a pouty perfect day!
